“A wonderful relaxing holiday”
Reviewed September 25, 2010

I have just returned from a wonderful relaxing holiday at the Xaloc Playa Hotel Menorca.
Its a lovely hotel and spotlessly clean. It is a very easy going hotel and very casual, which is nice, you don't have to dress for dinner. The staff are friendly from reception, right through to the bar staff and waiters. I enjoyed most of the meals there and there was plenty of choice. The room was big enough and again very clean, towels and bedding replaced every day. The pool is lovely and usually enough sunbeds. Despite there being a sign in the hotel not to reserve sunbeds, people still did, which i found irritating. Being September there was not enough entertainment in the hotel, only 4x during the two weeks we were there, apparantly in the high season, they have entertainment every other night. But apparantly, they have realised they made a mistake and will change this for 2011. There is not alot to do in the resort, only 4 bars and restaurants, 3 supermarkets and a pharmacy. It is a very quiet resort. There is the land train that takes you to nearby Binibeca Vell and beach, the land train is every hour, but stops between 12.30 and 5.30 for Spanish siesta. The hotel is just across the road from the beach, i loved the beach, despite having to wade through seaweed to get into the sea. The sunbeds plus a parasol at the beach is 15 euros for two people.
are on time too!! There is one cash machine in Punta Prima, and we didn't have problems getting money out, probably as it was September and a quieter time. There is one English pub which has a pub quiz and karoke weekly, which is ok, they serve food, but we didn't try it, as we were happy with the food at the hotel.
The bus into Mahon leaves at 25 past the hour, and it's on time too,it can and does leave earlier sometimes, so get to the bus stop in plenty of time. If you want to see other parts of the island you have to get a bus into Mahon and out again.
If you are looking for a holiday with lots of hustle and bustle then this is not the holiday for you, but we went for a quiet relaxing holiday and this is what we had.

We've just returned from a 10 night stay at the hotel Xaloc Playa. It's a small-ish, family friendly hotel. It has a very laid back atmosphere and the staff working at the hotel are very friendly. The rooms are fine. They are basic (with no aircon), but clean and tidy. The rooms were cleaned everyday and towels changed daily. The bed sheets were changed on alternate days. The TV has many English Channels, so good if you want to catch the news etc. The food is fine, how many variations can you have on an cooked breakfast? There are 4 or 5 cereals, bacon, eggs and frankfurter type sausages as well as patries and yoghurts and fruit. Evenings are salad varieties, chip with a meat and fish dish. Sometimes there was pasta as well. But, we all found plenty to eat. The staff in the resturant and polite and efficient at asking for your drinks order in the evening.
Lunches are very reasonably priced, e.g. cheese omlette with chips and salad about 4 Euro, a tuna and tomato bagette, 3.20 Euro. Coned ice-creams were 1.10 Euro and other more fancy ones were about 2.50 Euro. The Spar shop up the road also sells bagettes, pastries etc which are cheaper and closer if you're on the beach.
The pool is nice, and as it's situated behind the front of the hotel, which is fairly sheltered from the almost constant breeze. There is a small pool for younger children and a large-ish circular pool for the more confident swimmers. As it's a circular pool, the deep end is round one side of the pool and in the middle of the pool, so a little different to what we're used to, but it was great fun.
There didn't seem to be a great rush for sunloungers in the morning. There was the odd one or two left, which didn't bother us a great deal as we spent most of our time in the pool anyway.
The beach is about 100 metres from the hotel. The sand is white and the sea is a beautiful aquamarie blue. There can be a breeze and on some days there was windsurfers riding the waves. It depends what you like in a beach, but for me, personally, I don't tend to enjoy breezy beaches.
Right next to the hotel is the bus stop to Mahon. It leaves at 25 minutes past the hour Monday to Saturday with a restricted timetable on Sundays. It's 1.60 Euro each way. The buses are on-time and air conditioned, so it's worth a trip to Mahon. If you're lucky, head down to the Port and see if you can spot a magnificient cruise ship!
Just one point to remember, that Punta Prima is a very small resort and it only has ONE cash machine. So, if you take your cash card with you on holiday and hope to draw money out whilst you're away, be warned that the machine is apparently always either 'out of order' or out of money. The Spar supermarket (second one along the little strip of shops etc) will exchange money though if you get caught out. The Hotel will not change any money though.
Was a good break and good value for money.

The Xaloc Playa hotel is situated in Punta Prima, Minorca only 20 - 30 mins away from the airport in Mahon.

When driving up to the hotel we were a bit worried as it didnt look pleasing to the eye but once inside we found the hotel to be very comfortable and the grounds were immaculately kept. The pool area looked very inviting, with plenty of sunbeds and a bar area where you could get drinks, snacks and ice creams etc.

The room was quite basic but very comfortable. There was a tv with one english station. The sheets were changed every day and the towels almost every day.

The restaurant - well - it was great. There was so much food to choose from for breakfast - full english to toast, croissants, cereals, yoghurt, dried fruit, cold meats etc. I cant praise it enough. The evening meal was the same. At least one fish dish and two meat dishes. There were chips, boiled potatoes and pasta or rice. So quite a lot to choose from and, not forgetting, soup for starters.

Some evenings there was entertainment in the hotel and the one night be stayed to watch we had a lovely evening. There was a group, two men and one woman, who played instruments and sang quite a few songs from the sixties, seventies and eighties, just my sort of thing.

Last, but not least, the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. They took great care of us for the whole holiday.

There is a good bus service which runs into Mahon every hour. If you want to go to Binibeca then go on the road train. Its great fun for children and adults alike.

The only problem we had with Punta Prima is how quiet it is. Im not one for dancing the night away but it did lack bars where you could just sit and watch the world go by.

Just returned from a fantastic one week stay at the Xaloc hotel. We decided to stay here after reading the reviews on trip advisor, and we were not disappointed.
The hotel had a great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and spoke good English.
Our room was very clean and we had maid service daily which provided fresh sheets and towels daily. The only disadvantage about our rooms was the fact there was no air-conditioning, but we were aware of this before we arrived (after reading trip advisor reviews), and we could pay a small amount for a fan for the week which worked well.
Overall we were very pleased with our room, and also the hotel in general. The pool was very good and seemed to be a family friendly hotel.
The hotel was the closest hotel to the beach, which was great on the very hot days!
The only downside to our stay was the food - thanks to reviews on trip advisor we already knew the food choices were limited, and we had planned to eat out a number of nights, but it was cheaper to go half board and we ate in the hotel on half the nights of our stay. It was very basic food and on some mornings and evenings seemed monotonous but was pleasant. We could always find something we liked, and there was always a good selection of salad t and fruits. I think a small number of people struggled if they were fussy eaters and would end up eating a lot of chips and not attempt a large number of the foods, but if like us you will give anything a go, the meals were pleasant but basic.
There are a few restaurants in Punta Prima, mostly offering the same types of foods - either British style foods or seafood. The 'Sa Paella' restaurant was very good, fantastic paella and Tapas, but also did steak etc if thats what you prefer. Great staff, very friendly. The do the most fantastic prawns in mahon gin. The best cooked prawns we have ever tried!! Another restaurant 2 doors down from the paella place is a great seafood restaurant which is also brilliant and actually had a member of the Portuguese football team in when we were there! The first restaurant you come to when walking into town from the hotel is often busy, but actually was not the best food when we tried it so id suggest trying other places first unless you like over cooked dry fish...
We had a fantastic time in Punta prima and we had a great stay and will recommend it to people who want a relaxing quiet holiday....lying by the pool/beach reading books etc.
We are young and there was limited night life other than restaurants, but the hotel bar was fun and we mainly wanted a relaxing holiday without too many hangovers! (...the hotel Sangria is great though!) There are no watersports to do from the beach.
There is also a great bus service from outside the hotel which can easily get you into Mahon then onto Es Castell or for more sightseeing for only 1.60E for a single.
Brilliant, relaxing holiday with great hotel.

as my wife is disabled we use the internet to establish which hotels are suitable.the hotel looked OK and the reviews seemed positive. we arrived late on Thursday 6/05/2010 and the weather was't very good and it was cold. the room they allocated was up a steep incline which I had to push the wheelchair up.the room was very cold and seemed damp and had no form of heating in it.I asked at reception if we could borrow a heater because my wife has multiple sclerosis and feels the cold very easily.he said that we could use the one that was behind reception as it was the only one available even though it did not work very well. during the night the temperature dropped that low that we had to sleep fully clothed under the bedclothes. needless to say we checked out the following morning and found alternative accommodation that had heating.

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. It was a lovely place, pool was gorgeous and nice surroundings with mini golf course. The food was nice, lots of variety from steaks to fish, pasta dishes etc. Always fresh salad and fruit which was nice.
Rooms were very clean and cleaned daily. The beach is literally on the doorstep. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which takes you in to the capital and then from there you can get to the rest of the island. Bus in to the capital of Mahon cost us 1.60 euros each.
The only downside is that there wasnt that much to do in the evenings/ nightime. You would really need a car so that you can go off to find different bars or restaurants. There are only a couple of restaurants/ bars near to the hotel itself. There is however an english pub which holds some entertainment evenings just round the corner from the hotel. Not really suitable for people who want lots going on.
We took a trip to the waterpark at the other end of the island which was a good day out. Gave us an opportunity to explore another part of the island too.
You must visit the nightclub built into the caves and cliff too, this can be found by bus and a bit of a walk.
