“Going back soon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2010

We have just back from a 2 week all inclusive stay at the Insotel Club with two young children ( one almost 3 and one just turned 8). We were going to use the kids club but they were having such a good time in the pools that we did not get round to it. Can I just say that as far as I know the star rating system is based on facilities not just the quality of the hotel (I maybewrong). Now being from the north perhaps we would not of expected a swanky 5* London hotel experience which I admit the rooms are not, what we got was a very pleasant clean and tidy one bedroom appartment which perhaps was a little tired in places but I would put on a par with a UK Premier Inn with air con and a daily maid. The rest of the hotel was finished off very nicely and I really could not think of any faults. All the staff were very friendly and only too happy help though I would agree that at times the pool bar was busy with too few staff (you could be waiting up to 5 mins which did get annoying at times but you cant rule a hotel out on just this. We were all inclusive and te food was very good with a wide range to choose from. Yes after 2 weeks it did get a little repetitive but it would any were and I think if most people are honest you start to feel the need for plain old home cooked meals after this length of time no matter how good the hotel. Punta Prima is very quite but it has a lovely beach and again the locals are all very friendly. The kids loved the kids club on a night and the entertainment staff tried very hard to make everyone feel included if they wished. We had a sea view room at the base of the resort and near the shallow childrens pool but sunbeds were soon snapped up and in the end we often dropped a towel on one or two as we went to breakfast(after 8.30am most sunbeds with a shade option had gone). The pools though are excellent for all ages. All in all the kids loved it which meant we were relaxed. If you are wanting 5* luxury then upgrade to the adjoining prestige but if you like a relaxed family atmosphere were you can enjoy watching your kids play with little chance of people telling you to keep them quite in good quality accommodation with 5* staff then this is the place to be. Thankyou all so much. We will be returning soon.

I have just returned from a one week all inclusive break with my husband and 2 yr old son at Insotel Club Punta Prima, this being the first week of July (btw 28 - 25 degrees and sunshine all week). I read lots of reviews before I booked, and I honestly think the mixed reviews are down to customer expectations that are raised by the 5* rating and it being a Sovereign Classic & Thomson Platinum hotel. I am not a ridiculously fussy person with crazily high standards, so i hope this review is a fair reflection of what is to be expected from this hotel from the promises in the brochures/ websites.

Things we loved:
I loved the short transfer from the airport, and checking in was quick and easy. The location is fantastic - it is built on a very steep hill so watch out those with mobility issues - but the views over the sea are spectacular. The apartments are in 2 storey buildings so no feeling of being sandwiched in to a tower block, and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The pool areas (one main area at the top of the hill with separate childrens area, and one more lively area at the bottom of the hill near the main restaurant) are both beautiful pools with tons of sunbeds and shaded areas. We were particularly impressed with the top area as the views are so amazing and there was always a spare bed despite it being very busy and the usual sunbed-reserving antics. Mealtimes are a bit of a scrumdown with lots of queing, but we found breakfast was the best meal for us with lots of choice. Evening meals were nice when taken outside on the terrace, and the all inclusive drinks were very palatable. One dinner is permitted at the Il Faro restaurant, which we really enjoyed as a lovely setting and a nice peaceful change from the chaos of the main restaurant. The apartment was spacious enough, and the terrace was nice and accessible with lots of room for the inevitable buggy/ lilo/ beach paraphernalia. Punta Prima is a lovely little town - there's a handful of bars and restaurants along the sea front, and the beach is really pretty with clear waters and white sands, and rock pools for catching crabs/ fishing etc.

What we didn't like:
There were far too many guests for the amount of staff, particularly in the snack pool bars and the main bar in the evening. You could be stood waiting for ages, with lots of pushing in and elbowing going on. Chatting with others there confirmed most people were having the same experience. This is really unacceptable for this kind of hotel. However, I felt sorry for some of the staff, they seemed to be on duty ALL day and worked so hard. Another gripe we had was feeding our 2 year old. He will not eat chips and fried food, and so we struggled in the evenings to feed him at dinner. One evening, we tried to get the eggs and beans at the pool bar only to be told they are only for breakfast (doesn't say this on menu) then the next day I tried to order a tuna sandwich I was told they had stopped serving (ten minutes before the advertised closing time) and I literally had to fight to get it! The staff on this occasion (probably overworked and underpaid) were obnoxious towards me and I only wished I could understand Spanish, (although I can imagine what was being said!) Due to this, we ended up getting food from the Spar and making it in the apartment for him, especially as dinner time doesn't start until 6.30pm and he's used to eating much earlier. Made me wish we'd gone half board.
There were ants everywhere in the apartment - a spray of deet here and there sorted them out but they would reappear constantly.

Tips:
Try to get to Binebequer beach (although if you have other means of transport, the land train is pretty pricey at €7 per person) as it is a beautiful little bay, shallow clear waters, soft white sand, really gorgeous and worth a day out.
Buy a large beach umbrella for €8 at the supermarket and use that all week instead of hiring them daily - they cost a fortune
Use the bus service - they are regular, on time and air conditioned. Price was €1,60 to Mahon, no charge for small children. You can interchange at the Mahon bus station and get almost anywhere on the island.

Overall, we had a fab holiday and would go to Menorca again in a flash. But I would only recommend this hotel to someone based on the location and setting, not on the service and food.

We have just returned from a week at the Insotel Club Punta Prima and couldn't have been happier! We travelled as two families with four children between us ages ranging from 5 to 8 years old. The setting for the hotel is beautiful and we found everywhere to be spotlessly clean. The accomadtion was good and the service also. Staff were generally very pleasant. The food was fine. We have been on a number of all inclusive holidays and found the catering to be as good or better than we had found on previous holidays elsewhere. There was plenty of entertainment during the day should you wish to join in and a kids disco followed by a show every evening. This is a very mixed nationality resort which we enjoy but it does mean that the evening entertainment is quite limited to dance shows as to translate everything into the numerous languages would take forever! It was nice to have the small village on the doorstep to be able to have a walk down to but don't expect any 'kicking nightlife'! Before going we had read reviews about the aircraft noise but I can honestly say that we only heard two planes all of the time we were there and i see that many in my garden at home! We had a fabulous time and would be very happy to return next year (or next week if our budget allowed!) and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to families looking for a an easy holiday option.

The Punta Prima offers excellent facilities for a family holiday with younger children without feeling that there are so many children around. Although very good it is not 5* and does not have the standard of a Marriott Vacation Club or Intercontinental. We paid First Choice for a Superior room upgrade which offers a fantastic view but not all the benefits that a Superior rooms gets booking direct. The late check was the problem for us, they will not confirm if you can have this until 8pm the night before departure then charge 40Euros ( a Superior room booked direct gets late check out until 6pm ) We did get late check out but wouldnt visit again with a late flight.
Its really clean. The staff work very hard especially in the resturants. Plenty classes - yoga etc. Mini disco at 8.30pm Used the Spa, a bit poor not really a spa as such. No sittings at meal times which is good considering the number of people most of which are ALLInc. We was HB but had wine included at dinner and many a complementary ice cream or water for our 3 year old. I noticed the All inc. didnt have to wear a wrist band. Did buy a few small beers 330 euro. each. Spar 5min walk. Shop on site well stocked and good fridge in the room. The relaxed and accomadating staff make a difference. no petty signs or rules.
The rooms need a bit updating for a 5* - better beds and aircon but would be a good 4*
Seperate shower and bath but a bit tatty. Floors very slippey when wet. Noise from next door but most people tend to be in bed by midnight. Was in a upper room.
We would visit again in June, sunbeds getting to be a problem by the first week in July.,
Beach good gentle slopping for children.

This was our first family holiday in a long time - having 4 young children ranging from 8 yrs to 2 yrs was always going to be a challenge.

The facilities are simply beautiful. The food is staggeringly good with free wine and beer and soft drinks in the evening, even on half board. The effort the staff put in to the evenings childrens shows are wonderful, and there is always something to do. Not a hint of "Agga-Doo" in sight,,,

Punta Prima is a small hamlet but has several nice bars and restaurants, 3 supermarkets, a nice beach and a mini water park 3 mins walk from the hotel.

Transfers are a doddle and the in general all the people at the resort were friendly.

We had a brilliant holiday and are booking for next year.

First time in child friendly resort and both myself and husband had our reservations. However, both of us and our 3 year daughter had a fantastic time. The children are really looked after within the rooms and around the resort. We tried to use the child's club once or twice but my daughter was not up for it, but I would of felt comfortable leaving her if she had. She is three next week and did not want to be in the 6 month - 2 years old (baby room). However, the numerous toddlers pools made the experience very easy. The food on a whole was good, we tried to stay our of the buffet restaurant at lunch but found the bbq, italian restaurant and snack bar gave us an excellent choice. The hotel and resort is very clean and the entertainment team where amazing. Slightly sick of Mini Disco every night but our daughter loved it. Altogether a really enjoyable holiday - I would say that it is not 5 Star but then its not a 5 Star price - excellent value for money.

We first visited in September 2009 with a little trepidation over the food but wondered what all the fuss was about. We since booked again in June 2010 for a fortnight and had a thoroughly wonderful stay. The cleanliness is bordering on obsessive with the whole resort being topped and tailed on a twice daily basis, the animation team were brilliant and knew the names of our children within 3 days making twice daily trips to the pool to sing the Insotel song and wishing everyone bon appetite at every meal. Theres nothing really I can fault with the resort, I think the complaints about food have come about because kids tend not to eat on holiday when it's hot and this stresses parents and hence they feel the food choice is poor, but once you accept that children eat less on holiday then there's no problems.

We always got a sun lounger no matter how late we arrived at the pool, they mocked up an area to show the world cup and with the eclectic mix of germans, spanish and italians made for some interesting games! They also ran the Miss Poland 2009 competition in June 2010 (!) which brought in a number of Polish and kept the interest alive for the live final....
