“An oasis of calm.”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

Some things in life are a must and this is one of them. Great for a visit to Bath with brilliant access via the nearby park and ride. The service and welcome is impossible to beat and the breakfast experience will live in your memory. The Pygmy goats are so cute and the garden is beautiful. This is the best way to relax in the South West. Can't wait to return.

A little piece of English paradise. This is a B&B that goes that little bit extra...I think it's the attention to detail that does it for me. The 5* service but retaining that personal touch.

From the moment we arrived we were impressed. We were welcomed with a pot of tea in front of the roaring log fire in the downstairs guest room. We loved the beautiful gardens, the spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed rooms, and the attentiveness and professionalism of our hosts.

You have to try the breakfast! Gorgeous full English with all locally sourced farm ingredients, and eggs from the hens down the garden. Large selection of fresh fruit salad, and cereals, and a variety of homemade jams, we tried them all, they're available to buy too!

We spent a lot of time in Bath which is just a very short 10-15 drive away, and found parking no problem. There's also a really easy park and ride. Our host Tim was on hand with helpful maps and advice/info about the best places to visit. The Roman Baths are superb, and also the new Museum in the Royal Crescent was fascinating, we wished we could have stayed longer.

Everything was perfect at School Cottages, lovely rooms, wonderful food, luxury products in the bathrooms, a perfect relaxing stay, close proximity to Bath....We will be back!!!

We stayed here for a single night recently and had an absolutely wonderful stay. The place was spotless and Tim was really accommodating. He provided us with a list and map of local places to eat and really made us feel at home. The beds were wonderfully comfortable as were the rooms. The highlights of the stay were the pygmy goats outside and chickens outside and the 3 course breakfast which was amazing. The eggs were fresh from the garden and there was home made jam to go with the toast - it was amazing! Cannot recommend it more highly, thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Really close to to Newbridge park and ride which is the best way to get into Bath

Just returned from our 6th stay at School Cottages and we love it just as much as ever. We visit twice a year for a relaxing weekend away in what now feels like our second home.

We love the location in the pretty countryside just on the edge of Bath, only a 10 minute drive to the Park and Ride which is really convenient and saves trying to park in town. We also love the proximity to the many other locations nearby, where we visit a different place on each new visit – for example Wells, Weston Super Mare, Bristol and Stourhead National Trust. This time we tried our hand at glass blowing at Bath Aqua Glass in town, a really interesting session and we got to make our own hand-blown glass heart. We’d definitely recommend this for something different to do!

I think our favourite aspect of School Cottages are the delicious home cooked breakfasts made with local ingredients, the bacon is to die for and the homemade jams and marmalades are all wonderful too.

All of the rooms are warm, cosy, immaculately clean and furnished with everything you might need. And tea and biscuits in front of the fire when we arrived on Friday in the middle of a massive storm was very much needed.

Many thanks Tim, we will be back again soon for sure!

Room Tip: They are all lovely!

The place itself is faultless. Clean and warm rooms (we are a family of four and took two double rooms), helpful owners, and an excellent breakfast with a wide choice. It's taken my three months to get around to writing this review but I can still clearly remember the breakfast!

Gardens are nice and my kids enjoyed going to see the chickens. In beautiful countryside with some very nice pubs nearby to eat in.

The one thing to be clear on is that it's not in Bath, but a 20 minute drive away. They don't claim to be anything different, but since this appears when you key Bath into a search engine I can imagine some people not quite realising the distance. For us it was no problem, the countryside was just as welcome as the opportunity to see Bath - and the town itself is of course beautiful.

As this is the first review I've responded to (just figured out how to do it!) I'd firstly like to say thank you very much for all the wonderful reviews we have received over the years, it is very touching that our lovely guests have taken the time and effort to do this.

Thank you to the author of this our latest review. I would just like to add my comments regarding our location if I may.

As the Google map on our website clearly shows we are situated in the pretty village of Farmborough just southwest of Bath, just off the A39, which allows easy and fast access to Bath city centre. We are about 10 minutes drive to the Newbridge Road 'park & ride' which many of our guests find very convenient when visiting Bath. To drive into the centre of town it takes about 15 minutes. (We had dinner in Bath yesterday and were parked in Queens Square in the city centre within 11 minutes of leaving home.) Another convenient car park to use when visiting Bath is Charlotte Street. This is on our side of town and although it is quite centrally located you don't need to go through the confusing one way system to get to it. We are also on a bus route into town.

We do not pretend to be located in central Bath, where parking can be scarce and expensive. Here at School Cottages you can park for free and will not be kept awake by city street noise. Here, we believe, we offer our guests the best of both worlds - the possibility of having a city break in the country! After a busy day sightseeing our guests are welcome to relax and enjoy our lovely cottage gardens and maybe visit our resident hens (who provide our breakfast eggs) and small herd of pygmy goats in the orchard! There is a wide choice of excellent country pubs nearby for eating out too.

The other great thing about our location is that we are well placed for our guests to enjoy not only the world heritage city of Bath but also the many delights of the surrounding area. We are within easy reach of Bristol, Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar, Lacock, Bradford on Avon, Avebury, Longleat, the Somerset coast and the Mendip Hills as well as numerous National Trust properties and areas of outstanding natural beauty.

With very best wishes to all our guests,
Tim.

We had a lovely couple of days here. Great accommodation - attractive rooms, very clean, comfortable bed, warm and toasty, great shower. The host was friendly and helpful and created a really relaxed atmosphere. Delighted by breakfast - excellent ingredients both locally sourced and homemade. Handy for Bath, Priston Mill and the Pony and Trap at Chew Magna.
