“Enjoyed being there”

This is a nice resort and we certainly enjoyed being there. I went with a Dive group and we were there for one week. The diving at the resort and close to it was poor. A lot of silt and we were plagued with a group of Spanish divers who insisted in getting in everybodies way whenever they wanted to take a photo. The rooms were a little older but well maintained. The restaurant food was very good. Our meals were included in our package and we enjoyed them. There was a german fellow at the resort who contacted us to arrange for a backcountry tour for our group and frankly that was a waste of time and money. The diving at Apo Island and Siquijour was awesome. I am not sure that there would be much to do if you were not a diver but then we really were kept quite busy with the diving. Our trip included a previous week at Kasai Village Dive & Spa Resort and we were so spoiled on that resort that it would be hard for any resort to come up to those standards.

Room Tip: Our room was excellent. The rooms all have names and ours was Angelfish. Recommend that room or on...

We stopped in for a day to use the pool (P100 entrance fee consumable and P150 pool fee per person) and decided to book a room here for Christmas. We stayed in the cheapest rooms in the back and loved it. Lovely grounds - they decorated it very well for the holidays. Great bar that makes proper drinks. The beach has brown sand - not the most attractive and there's not much to see snorkeling. The guests are almost exclusively Swiss, German and French. Ideal set up to dive at the wonderful Apo Island. The dive shop, Sea Explorers, is set up on the grounds of the resort and run a top quality operation. Incredibly friendly, helpful and professional staff who pay attention to every detail.

This is the lesser of two resorts I've visited in the Philippines. The resort is well established, and the food is very good regional cuisine and very flavorful. the layout of the resort is nice with a great spa and pool. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. There isn't much of a house reef since the drop off is very steep. The dive boats are set up well and the staff handle the gear set up. Personally I'd rather set up my gear myself but that wasn't an option. The things that dampened my enthusiasm for this resort were 1. The staff Christmas party that involved about ten hours of ear splitting loud music with speakers that were almost as big as our room and the owners unwillingness to acknowledge that this was not ideal. We asked to be switched to a room away from the speakers that even my noise canceling headphones couldn't dampen, and even though there were empty rooms farther away from the party spot, we were not accommodated.
I would never go back. It almost ruined my vacation.
Minor things that were irritating - with an all inclusive package you can't even get water to drink. You have to pay even to fill your water bottle with potable water to brush your teeth with.
It's very hot there and important to stay hydrated. The dive staff were so-so compared to Kasai Village and other places we've been in the Carribbean and Indonesia.

My mum is from Dumaguete and has a house there so have been to the Negros Oriental many times. This trip was the first time for my boyfriend to go to The Philippines with me so I wanted to book a nice resort to spend 2 nights before moving on to my mums house. On a previous trip to the philippines, an auntie had taken me to Pura Vida for the day and I loved it. I have been to a few of the resorts in Dauin but remember Pura Vida standing out so I decided to book there. I booked directly with them by enquiring via their website. Although corresppondance wasn't the most quickest- it was however definitly worth it. The place is beautiful, standard cottage native-style accommodation was stunning (but do reccomend going with air con as it gets very hot at night). The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. We loved it there so much that we stayed a 3rd night. My boyfriend asked the resort to organize a special romantic dinner for our last night on the beach and they couldn't have made it more perfect (roses, paper lanterns surrounding our table, flowers scattered across the sand and the additional cost was only about £10 for all this). Only negative feedback is the food but food in the Philippines is generally either hit or miss so as long as your'e not a fussy foodie, you won't be too bothered. Still Pura Vida is highly reccomended... We'll be back!

We had a wonderful 7 nights at this very friendly resort. It was our first time in the Philippines and we will certainly be back.
We used Maldive Scuba tours to book the holiday and really recommend them. We flew with Emirates to Manila then used Philippine airlines for the internal flights.
We had a detached native style cottage in the gardens called starfish. It had air-conditioning and was just perfect for us. The balcony was great to sit and relax on and the gardens are so beautiful.
The food was fantastic. Lunch and dinner had an amazing menu to choose from. Every meal that we had was an absolute triumph. Lunch and dinner was served on the beach and you could ask for a specific table to be reserved for you on the beach. What a setting for a meal.
The reception was open 24 hours a day and there were always very helpful friendly staff on duty and nothing was to much trouble for them. They were always smiling and knew your name it made you feel part of a family.
The diving was great and under Lee's management . The whole operation was very efficient and very friendly with amazing dive masters. They not only showed you all the amazing creatures but made sure you dived with a smile and as they said if diving with Nitrox you had a longer smile.
The dive boats are well thought out with loo, coffee making faciities a sheltered area and purpose built storage for the air bottles.
I was fortunate to dive with Lee, Adelfa ,Michael and Joyboy all of whom were fantastic and patient when one had a blonde moment!!
When diving everyone helped with equipment and with getting you back on board. What an amazing dive experience with a variety of good dive sites. The hire equipment was in great condition.
One of the highlights for me was being able to dive at Apo island on two different days. What a dive site with so much to see and such beautiful corals and Marine life. While there island ladies came out to the dive boat to sell T shirts, dresses and sarongs at very reasonable prices.
While at Pura Vida we did a trip to the twin Lakes of Balinsasayao and Danao and also went to the Casaroro waterfall. What an amazing day out.
The lakes are very beautiful but the steps there in the rainy season are covered in moss and slippery so take care. The road to the lakes is very rough and not for the feint hearted but it is well worth the journey. The traffic is very colourful if a bit manic with colourful jeepneys and motorbike style tuc tucs.
The waterfall is spectacular so are the 335 steps down and back!! It is well worth the effort and if you like you can swim on the pool at the bottom of the waterfall.
A big thank you to all the staff who made our holiday so memorable while we were there.
This is a link to my Tripwow slide show of the resort and some underwater photos.:

I hope if you decide to go that you enjoy it as much as we did.

The only snag was that you had to pay for all drinks on full board including water.
We felt that water should have been part of the package.

Room Tip: The native style rooms with air-conditioning are good value and detached in a beautiful garden

Stayed a week in this beautiful beach and dive resort. Amazing new family room with lots of space and close to the sea. The family friendly pool is great for a small children. Me and my wife went on several diving trips and the hotel provides a very friendly and reliable babysitter for a small fee. Diving is great and the muck diving is just amazing. Apo is a must and the pura vida housreef which offers a great amount of fish. We will be back for sure.

The wife and I live in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. When we want to go to the beach for a day of relaxation Pura Vida Resort is our 1st choice of over 30 or more beach resorts in the area. This resort is always outstandingly manicured, with swimming pool just a few meters from the waters edge and a beautiful maintained, wide sandy beach. The beach front bar has everything and is the place to meet and enjoy people from all over the world. Recommend reserving early a beach table for a lovely sunset, candlelight dinner from their exquisite prepared local and international menu. We always enjoy the friendly and courteous staff, and Chris and Juvie are to be commended for the overall management of this large resort. In Negros, this is the place to go for a day at the beach, or a short or extended stay in their large cottages. You will not be disappointed nor dissatisfied. Well Done! Bill and Kathy Best.

P.S. If you are a PADI diver or want to become one, this resort has the best training school, the latest and best equipment, modern dive boats, and choice diving areas.
