“Relax by the pool”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Bahura has huge rooms and friendly staff. It is mainly for divers but also a good option for someone who wants to relax in peace for a few days. The centre piece is a fabulous pool. The restaurant has good food options, all available for room service or poolside. There is a set menu each day or you can just order off the menu. Breakfast is a buffet with changing options each day. The beach is not really for suitable for swimming, at least not while I was there as it was very windy and rough in the water. Wifi is available in the restaurant but not in the rooms. It's worth organising a pick-up from the airport in advance - it is a fairly long drive and the buses are crowded. It's easy to get a local bus to the only mall in Dumaguete for 20 pesos - just go to the street and flag down the next yellow bus. Tell the conductor 'Robinsons Mall'. At the mall you can get a tricycle if you want to go to the ferry port or along Rizal Boulevard; it will cost 10 pesos. The room has a small safe, big bed, TV with lots of channels, soap, shampoo, toothbrush and towels. Not a lot to do in the area which makes Bahura great for a peaceful break.

Bahura Resort looked great on the website but on arrival it is quickly apparent that the resort is dated and needing a lot of maintenance. In its former days, this resort would have been magnificent but it's a shame to see that the operators haven't kept the buildings up to scratch. The pool area is very good though and would be perfect for children and families. The beach has black rocks and black sand and is not very swimmable but is good for snorkeling etc. Our room was very large and the bed was enormous, however there were stains on the bed sheets. The bathroom however was disappointing - there was a sunken shower area with no screen and the water pressure non-existent. We also had holes in our towels. We were quite impressed with the reasonable prices at the restaurant though and the food was quite delicious. A problem we found was that there was a lack of sun lounges down by the beach area. The resort needs more seating for guests to enjoy the views of the ocean and the surrounding islands. For a more luxurious stay in Dumaguete, I would definitely recommend going to the 'Atmosphere' resort next door. Overall it was a nice stay but you get what you pay for.

Would recommend this seaside resort if you do not plan to make frequent trips to the city, which takes 30 minutes to reach.

Our group was billeted in Deluxe, Premium Deluxe and Villa so we were able to compare the three types of rooms. All rooms are very spacious (the villa features a loft where the bedroom is located). Bed in Deluxe room or Villa is bigger than California King and is probably custom-made. Two beds are in Premium Deluxe, both queens. Quite comfortable.

Bathrooms are also large, with a sunken area for the shower (Deluxe/Premium Deluxe). In the villa, the bathroom was even bigger, with a jacuzzi tub.

Rooms had mini-bar, safety deposit box, individual aircon, and cable TV (although channels limited IMO). Two complimentary bottles of water are replenished daily. Hair dryer not in room, but could be requested from Housekeeping.

Rooms were generally clean, however, furniture, paint and fixtures need updating.

Buffet breakfast was included in room rate. Good spread of local breakfast fare plus fruit, breads and pancakes. Cannot comment on lunch or dinner food offerings since we were out everyday, which brings me to the next comment about accessibility of the resort.

Bahura is located in Dauin, which is 30 minutes away from the city center of Dumaguete. In view of this, we planned our activities so that we did not have to travel back and forth. If you intend to relax and unwind for most of your trip, staying in the resort would be ideal for you, since it has a big pool, is beside the beach, and also offers other water sports activities. The room rates are also quite expensive, so it would be impractical if you spend most of the day outside in the city.

Resort staff were very courteous; check-in and check-out were both quick.

Room Tip: Deluxe and Premium Deluxe rooms are the same size. The latter features two beds and a balcony that...

This resort looks an old resort in dumaguete, they do have a nice swimming pools though. But then again a lot of things to be consider.First they dont have wifi in their rooms only at the restaurant.Buildings are dated i mean they dont even bother to repaint it also the outdoor chairs and tables,in other word the resort is dying. We are the only guest that time that was last december. This resort is far from the city also about 25-30 mins. The beach area is rocky also its impossible to go there without wearing some protection on your feet. Well if you are looking for a nice swimming pool then this is a place.

me and my family spent two nights and it was a very good experience. Our kids love to swim in their spacious pools. Although not much to choose for foods but breakfast is great. Love to spend some time again here. During our snorkeling trip to Apo island, they have a very nice guide with us and our kids really like him. Kudos to lauro, our guide.

My fiancé and I took a tricycle from LaBas to Bahura -- big mistake. It took almost 40 minutes and was super windy, dirty, smelly, and noisy. Obviously, I should have expected this, but I thought the ride was shorter. Plus there were no taxis around. The price was 500 pesos.

Once we got to the resort, I was in heaven. They greeted us with a drink (too sugary). Soon enough we were at our room. We stayed in villa 4. The decor is definitely 70's Brady bunch, but there was ac and hot water, so I was happy. The room also looked onto the beach for perfect views of
sunrises and sunsets. We couldn't get most of the shades open though.

We had wonderful buffet breakfasts every morning -- rice, eggs, two kinds of meat (one day there was even bacon!), coffee, two kinds of fresh juice, bread, pancakes, and fresh fruit. The breakfasts totally fueled us for our two days of diving.

We did our open water PADI dives through this resort. Pat, our contracted instructor, was phenomenal! He spoke English very well and was very patient with me (I was quite anxious).

Each of those two days, we ate lunch and dinner at the resort. Lunch is a pre fixe menu and dinner's menu was great. We had great kinilaw each night along with grilled fish.

The pool area is amazing. Lots of shade or sun -- whatever you prefer.

I wish there was wifi in the rooms (it's only available in the dining and pool areas). I also wish they gave us more fresh water -- they only have is two small bottles of water per day.

Overall a great stay!

The swimming pools and gorgeous horticulture set this expansive property apart as a lovely retreat. The hotel does welcome day trippers and so can get busy during high days and holidays but otherwise it's a peaceful place. The staff are invariably can-do minded and Chef Lorna's food is unpretentious, tasty and very good value (try her home made tofu dishes - best we've tasted).

Some fixtures and fittings are showing their age and need upgrading but the room proportions are generous, with the villas being especially spacious. The price differential between this place and next door Atmosphere will likely narrow when these upgrades have occurred.

Room Tip: The ocean side villas are worth the premium.
