“Lovely hotel but very diver focussed”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We stayed here for 5 nights and it is a beautiful place and the staff are excellent. Our preference is to snorkel and the house reef is pretty good, but like so many places in the philippines it is pretty 'fished out' even thought there is a designated sanctuary. It is a great start for nearby Apo island, where the coral is great, but again very little in the way of fish.
The resort itself is great. Rooms are lovely with a fab outside shower and well appointed rooms. The gardens are well kept and the pool and bar area is very nice. The dive staff were brilliant although we weren't diving and helped us on trips to Apo and the Whale Shark trip in Cebu.
The beach is a bit uninspiring - gray sand leading into pebbles - not the sort of place to lounge about on really.
In summary, I can thoroughly recommend the resort if you are diving or snorkelling, but if you want a beachy paradise, pop over to Siquijor (we stayed at the excellent Coco Grove) on the ferry for white powder sands.
All in all, congratulations to the resident owners, the place and staff are a credit to you.

Room Tip: This is great - they are all ground floor duplex so you can't really go wrong!

My partner and i stayed at this resort for 7 nights. The resort is owned and run by a english couple who spend a fair amount of their time with their guests making sure you are having a perfect stay with them. They do this without letting on they are the owners because they are really interested in their guests and how they can improve the resort, although we could not think of one thing that could be changed.
I would disagree with the review of this resort being totally oriented for divers.I am a diver but my partner is not.She really enjoyed her stay spending her time relaxing, using the excellent spar, yoga lessons very day & trips. We did a trip to Oslob where we snorkeled with the whale sharks (7 to be exact) which began at 8.00am and returned at 2.00pm leaving plenty of time for sunbathing or another dive in the afternoon. The resort offers many excursions, one being a soup kitchen, where you can help hand out lunches to the underprivileged children at school so that they have at least one balance meal a day.(A very commendable act by a resort).
The resort is also very children friendly, they have nanny's on site who are excellent with them to enable you to go diving, which one of my dive buddies couldn't praise them enough.
There are many factors that make this a exceptional resort from huge rooms built to to high spec,a architecturally beautifully designed resort with stunning gardens/bar & pool, to some of the most friendliest staff i think i have ever met.
Other factors that make this a 5 star resort is the restaurant, dive centre & dive locations.
The restaurant is a sit down and be served affair (which is a pleasant change from so many buffet serving resorts),but if you wish you can just grab a bite to eat at the bar to continue your dive stories of the day and it will be waitered over to you.
No dressing up for dinner either, this is a resort that is catering for divers, they know how much we struggle with excess luggage. The food is exceptional, as good if not better than you would find in any fine dining restaurant. The chef is a philippine, who studied his trade in germany for 30 years, his & his teams desserts are to die for.
The dive centre is managed by a english man called Adam, one of the nicest guys you will ever met.If there is anything you are concerned about this man will sort it out. There were a couple of big groups diving when i was there but i was put with one or two divers on our own boat with a guide each. These local guides will find the smallest creatures you have seen from 20m away.We even had 6 different species of frogfish on one dive. The micro diving is excellent i would say on par with Lembeh Straits but you also have excellent coral reefs like Apo Island and large shoals of fish like the barracuda’s etc..
If you do stay at this resort please no not miss out on diving the house reef,it is absolutely fantastic,so many things to see big and small.
I would highly recommend this resort to both divers and non divers especially as i have stayed in and dived with numerous resorts all over the world.I would without doubt rate this resort in my top 10. A big thank you to all the staff for a very memorable holiday.

This resort is totally oriented for divers, so if spending most of your time under water is not your idea of a holiday you may consider a different accommodation. For those who love diving, this is a great place to stay at.
There are plenty of guides and they offer dives all day, including day trips to Apo Island.
The service is really good and the setting is beautiful, with the bungalows settled along a manicured garden.
Dumaguete is around half an hour from the resort. They offer a very expensive transfer (700 pesos pp) but buses pass by the door very frecuently and they charge just 20 pesos.

Hi Chus,
Thank you for your kind review of Atmosphere - we are happy to hear that you enjoyed it! because Atmosphere has only a limited number of vehicles, we often have to rent vans to accommodate guests who want to go to the city. However, we have recently added a service where guests pay only 300 pesos when one of our vans are going and as they leave frequently, there is usually space for our guests. So hopefully you can take advantage of this if you visit us again.
To entertain non-divers, our full-service Spa, daily Yoga classes, daily excursions to lakes, markets, the city, hot springs and waterfalls - as well as the infinity pool - are present in the resort. We are always working on extending our guest services to make everybody's stay enjoyable and there will be even more facilities added within the next year!

My husband, my 2 year old daughter and I stayed in the resort, booking one of the apartment for 7 nights earlier this month. From the beginning, the friendly reception staff, a greeting from the Spa manager and glasses of refreshing iced-tea ensured us we had made the right decision to stay here. The staff at the restaurant, the cleaners, the dive staff and spa staff were always extremely friendly and helpful. We were also greeted by the general manager who was chatty and accommodating and even lent some of her kids toys to our daughter. The apartment was extremely spacious and comfortable with all modern amenities, my only comment was there was no electric kettle but there was a kettle and stove so just had to get used to boiling the water for my morning coffee, old school style. The gardeners were always working hard on the beautiful gardens, which were particularly lush this time of year in the Philippines. We hired a babysitter for 6 of the 7 days we were there and for at least half a day at a time and she was extremely professional and took good care of our daughter. Babysitter rates were very affordable as well. The food was of really good quality, my only comment being the first 3-4 mornings we were there it wasn't actually buffet breakfast, but I was blown away on the last morning we stayed there! On the last day, best hotel Brekky ever! Excursions were well varied - we snorkelled with the whalesharks, did the Apo island tour, Malapatay market tour and Dumaguete city tours. All excellent and recommended - the whalesharks tour was a bit more expensive though. The infinity pool was awesome and always spotlessly clean. The spa was amazing and the therapists very experienced but prices were more expensive than typically seen around Filipino resorts elsewhere. The Kids Cove was only open after school hours and weekends so was a bit limited - only got to try it once but facilities looked great. Overall, an excellent resort which would be enjoyed particularly by divers and couples. As a young family, we were able to enjoy our holiday because of the excellent babysitting services but would have been better if the Kids Cove was more accessible. And hope the breakfast is as good as the last day we left! Will definitely be back one day. Many thanks to everyone there!

Room Tip: Apartment is perfect for families. Suite (which we stayed on the morning we left due to late check o...

Hi Mhelsby,
We are so happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay at Atmosphere - it is a great environment for children and we also love the breakfast buffet! Kid's Cove is open all year round but because the facilities are housed in an actual elementary school, during the terms it can only open on weekends and after school is out in the afternoon. If, next time, you visit when there is a school holiday such as Easter, Mid-term or Summer holiday, Kid's Cove will be available every day! We look forward to seeing you here again!

We booked two suite for the family. Really beautiful resort, with friendly and professional staff. The place is own by an English family who is doing a great job. Room are big, spotless and very pleasant. The pool is great, but the black sand beach not so nice for swimming. Snorkeling in front of the resort is poor.
Breakfast is good, by service can be a bit slow for diners. Some of the dishes, quiet pricey, do not have much in the plate. The restaurant is what could be improved in this resort.
We took the Apo island tour of the resort. The boat is nice and service was excellent. Really good value. And swimming with the turtles is an unforgettable experience ... Corals there are incredible, but there is very little fish. Huge gardens of corals, but not much fauna.
The resort is a bit expensive by Philippines standard, but worth it...

Hi Chris! Thank you for your lovely review of Atmosphere - we are happy to hear you enjoyed your holiday and in particular swimming with turtles in Apo Island - they are amazing and come so shallow that everybody can see them! The snorkeling outside the resort is actually excellent - but one has to swim towards the north end of the beach where all the corals are and maybe we didn't point out the best areas - maybe next time? :-)

My friend and I spent 5 nights here and had a great vacation. There's not much around this resort but we didn't miss anything. Apartments instead of rooms is a nice concept, really enjoyed the space. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Beautiful pool. The on-site diving school proved to be very flexible (when & what) and helpful, I enjoyed completing the open water advanced certification here. The food in the restaurant is good. The SPA has very nice settings and I can highly recommend the signature body massage. Overall a great experience.

Thank you for your great review! We also warmly recommend the signature body massage. Very happy to hear that you liked your Garden Apartment - when we designed them we wanted guests to have the possibility of a separate large bedroom with en-suite bathroom for sleeping and an additional lounge/kitchen area for socializing. We hope to see you here again!

We came on the recommendation of friends and we were not disappointed. The cottages were clean and spacious, the television and Wi-Fi worked perfectly and the staff were efficient and friendly. The resort is predisposed towards divers. We are not divers but we enjoyed the green and peaceful surroundings and the attractive and clean infinity pool.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. You can see the sea from rooms 9 & 10.

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay - suite rooms 9-14 indeed have views of the ocean and the tree house Yoga platform, whereas the other suite rooms are closer to the pool, bar and Spa. Many of our guests are divers or snorkelers, but just like you, others just wish to relax, enjoy the spa, yoga or excursions on offer. Welcome back!
