“Good conference hotel - great food and staff!”
Reviewed April 6, 2014 via mobile

Just back from a two day conference at the Derbyshire. Although it's quite difficult to get to by public transport (I suspect it's really aimed at car drivers, as it's just off the M1), once there, the welcome was warm. The staff were great - very friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile.

Food in the bar is quite expensive (£10 for a Panini - very good, though) - unless you're eating on an expense account!), but all the meals we had in the restaurant were excellent - cooked breakfast buffet with options, great coffee, and speedily served dinners of great quality. One thing - the restaurant isn't huge, so you may have to wait if you arrive at a popular time. Also, unusually, you have to wait to be seated at breakfast. Not a problem, but most hotels seem to let you wander in at breakfast (which suits me fine!)

My room was a fair way from reception - a good five minute walk down stairs, and along several well signposted corridors. Once there, it was very warm (commented on by several other guests - in their rooms that is, not mine!), clean and well maintained.

Overall, the Derbyshire might not be the perfect location for a Peak District weekend (there are lots of places closer to the dales, and places with more atmosphere), but if you need a location for a conference, or a high quality hotel close to the motorway, you won't go far wrong with the Derbyshire. It's a hotel that means business.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the conference and found the hotel enhanced your event. We are well located near the M1, junction 28; for travel by rail both Derby and Nottingham train stations are a short taxi ride away.

We hope to welcome you back again soon either for another event or for time to explore the local area.

Kind regards
The Management Team

Beware lof the cheaper rooms! Mine smelt strongly if stale cigarettes and deoderant ....and now I'm awake at 5.13 am with the radistor banging and knocking. Paid £14.95 for a soggy sandwich with undercooked chips that took half an hour to arrive.......

Business hotel, convenient for motorway. Staff very obliging and express checkout facility appreciated. Room clean but overwarm and choice of TV channels very limited. Full sized ironing board useful. Indifferent restaurant, overpriced meal plus nearly £9 for a glass of wine, with limited food choice, young staff worked really hard. Breakfast average.

The staff were very friendly, especially Clare on the reception desk, and made us feel welcome. The evening dinner was fantastic and would highly recommend eating here.
Breakfast the next day was equally as good and had some of the best sausages I've ever tasted!!
Access to the swimming pool, sauna and steam room was an added bonus and was used and enjoyed.
The room was spotless and the bed comfy, the carpet was a liitle threadbare but that didn't spoil our break at all.
Will definitely be returning to this hotel again.

We have just celebrated my Grandparents Golden Wedding Anniversary at The Derbyshire Hotel and it was absolutely wonderful!
We checked in at 2pm (as did everyone in our party so we caused a bit of a queue!) and the staff on reception were lovely- very attentive and friendly.
Our room was spotless, the bed really comfy, and we didn't hear a peep from any other guests around us for our entire stay.
We used the spa facilities in the afternoon, which were great, although the leisure club staff weren't particularly helpful- there was no one at the sign in desk when we arrived so we hung around for a few minutes before deciding that we would just sign ourselves in and go into the changing room... my partner then came back out of the changing room as he'd noticed there were no keys in the lockers and there was a lady sat at the desk who quite abruptly told him that we shouldn't have gone through to the changing room without seeing someone first! Once we had our locker keys however, we thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the Jacuzzi and the whole area again was spotless.
The function room had been set up exactly to my Grandparent's requirements and looked stunning. The food at the party was fantastic and the service from the staff was attentive and enthusiastic- we really couldn't have asked for more!
We had a private breakfast the following morning, the buffet was constantly topped up and nobody had to wait for anything. Again the staff were lovely, really friendly and approachable.
Overall, we all had a really fantastic stay! All of the public areas are beautifully kept and very clean, and apart from our telling off from the leisure club staff every other member of staff we spoke to were brilliant.
The only thing I'd mention (and this is is no way a complaint!) is that the whole hotel was really really warm during our stay- when we checked into our room the radiator was turned on fully and we couldn't open our window, and during the meal at the party I had to ask a few times for the air- con to be turned up.
Once again, thanks to all of the staff at The Derbyshire Hotel for being the perfect venue for this special occasion.

Arrive on Friday evening to be greeted by very friendly accommodating staff. First impressions were good. The room was a standard double and was clean and tidy. The soft furnishing we're starting to look tired and in places threadbare. Everything was clean and tidy the housekeeping staff were obviously very efficient. The Tempus dining room was relatively small and we had dinner which was pleasant allbeit from a very limited menu. My wife is a vegetarian and she was accommodated again with a limited choice. The food was good but the temperature could have been a little hotter. We had requested a quite room and weren't disappointed. Breakfast on Saturday was fine, buffet style,to suit those who wanted a full breakfast and also anyone wanted cereals and fruit. The hotel steadily became busier over Saturday and we ate elsewhere that evening. On returning we decided to have a nightcap and this was spoiled with the length of time we had to wait to get served. The bar man was doing several jobs at once even though the small bar was quite busy with other guests many of which we're attending a wedding function. Breakfast on Sunday was not so good. Extra table had been place in the bar and dining room. We were sat at a table for two but we could have been sat on the adjacent M1, the amount of traffic passing us on all sides. Waiters passing close with hot coffee and tea and guests with drinks and breakfasts they were carrying to their respective tables both in the dining room and elsewhere. Staff we're very busy and unfortunately crockery ran out at the breakfast bar and I was left waiting along with another lady wanting glasses for fruit juice. When I was ready to get my cooked breakfast I was again left waiting with a hit plate, partially filled with breakfast, whilst tureens were replenished with bacon and sausage. We're were waiting a considerable time. Another guest stated that her poached eggs were getting cold at her table.
These were minor hiccoughs . The weekend wasn't spoilt but it didn't show the hotel in its best light. The breakfast was plentiful when you got it!! And the food in General was good. The staff were the redeeming factor and cannot praise them highly enough for their friendliness and attentiveness. Would be happy to return and hopefully the minor problems could be remedied.

The hotel was good value for money for a short break . the accommodation was clean and compfortable, food choice was good, staff were very helpful and accommodating.
We wanted to visit the Peak district, unfortumately the weather curtailed our outdoor activities. we do however intend to visit again in the near future.
