After Kolkata / Assam we landed in the evening at Hotel Golden Pagoda during the 3rd week of June 2011 after a journey of 4 and 1/2 hours of drive from NJP. As we had already booked the property through Net, we thought will take a break of 2 hours and they we will start capturing beautiful scenic beauty of Sikkim but due to some confrontation / or misunderstanding with hotel front office manager (Mr Pradeep Agarwal) we finally took off at around 8.30 PM.
The room was given 208 (very small - Valley view) on arrival but we changed it the next morning to very spacious 205 (M.G.Road Facing).
Here is a point-always book the rooms which are M.G.Road facing, these rooms are very spacious.
The location is tooo good, its on the mall (M.G.Road). The hotel has a roof top restaurent which serves good veg food. I shall suggest to avail the services of Parivar Restaurent (in the M.G.Road only) for Veg and Apna Dhaba for Non Veg. Go to the Parivar Restaurent with sufficient time otherwise you shall be given waiting time slot.
The Hotel is just opposite to Hotel Golden Heights. The room service is bit slow ( may be due to packed accomodation), cleanliness is good. Stay is comfortable.
All other facilities are in the vicinity of this hotel only (Try Rainbow restaurent for mommos / Chau / rolls and ask for Mr. Baichung of Blue Sky Restaurent if you have any travel plans). The hotel itself having a travel counter but i suppose the rates are bit expensive as compared to outside.
Well, I shall not recommend for this hotel... go for Golden Heights instead.

Room Tip: Room 205 / 207 for spacious double room

This hotel is located at the heart of the city MG Marg...a nice street, walk only zone...very lively. They play music on the street with Bose speakers! Staff were nice. The room service is very slow; which is probably the case with all places here, they take life easy...:) A nice view from the room with a roof-top restaurant; which also has a good view of the kanchenjunga. A very good budget hotel.

We booked a room on 13 Nov 2010 for stay on 2 & 3 Jan., 2011 for we, husband , wife & two children of 10 & 7. The room was small & after putting third bed, no movement space was left. Pillow for 3rd bed was NOT at all given. All advance payements were done but the hotel refused to give breakfast on 4 Jan, 2011 before departing despite advance payements. No bill or voucher was given. I asked to complete filling the register but that too was denied. During dinners, acute shortage of drinking water was visible. Only one glassful water was given to all & getting more water was very difficult & struggling. Also, the water &/or meals cause severe stomach upsets to all. The bathroom was very small, thin & congested having only 8 " gap between commode & wash basin plateform. The bath space too was very small & close to that. The geyser was leaking with drops of water. The room's light was of so low intensity that it was impossible to read anything. Staff was unfriendly & rude. No other party was residing or dining in that. Rates of items in menu cards for dining are fraudulently very-very high sans quality. That is a VERY - VERY BAD HOTEL.

We will recommend this hotel to only those people who want to make Gangtok a base for various day tours. However, stay away if you are 1) looking for a serene location, 2) making an onward journey to North Sikkim (save money on acco and spend it in travels to Yungthang!), & 3) looking for a budget hotel

The best part about this hotel like many others located on the MG road is its location. The MG road is the heart of the city and is a stroll away from the taxi stands- so if you plan to make Gangtok a base for day trips to places such as Nathu La or Lachung this is apt. You are also a few steps away from good momo joints, watering holes, and gift shops. But if you are looking for a serene location- avoid any of the hotels on Mall road.

But there is nothing more to the hotel.
1) They do not provide any porters to help you with your luggage- a big irritant considering that the car parking is almost half a kilometer.
2) The staff is ok- do not expect smiling faces.
3) The rooms are small; bathrooms are ok; acoustics are bad; not much of view from the rooms
4) Linen and towels are not clean
5) Room service is avaliable but
6) No ironing or laundry service; no business centre- but not much of a trouble as you will find a few on the MG road
7) Flat screen TV available but badly placed

Although our stay was comfortable, we felt the tariff was relatively high considering the amenities.
