An excellent choice for stay in Gangtok, away from the busy and crowded MG road area. The rooms are very nicely designed on the sloping terrace of a hill and has a large garden (and a nursery) full of flowers, herbs and orchids. The property faces a misty valley with great views (but not of Kanchenjunga). The rooms were well appointed and clean - a child bed/foldaway sofa was provided on request. Overall the owners seem to have put a lot of thoughtful effort in this place. It has two great dining areas - one on a open terrace and one well appointed interior dining room. The library at the basement level has an excellent collection of books - including many on Sikkim. The food, served family style (chef/cook decides menu for each dinner or breakfast) was excellent with pleasant service by the friendly staff. This hotel/B&B is in the Sichey Busty (Village) and it cost us about Rs60-100 for a one way taxi to the central MG road area. Given an opportunity, will definitely stay here again.

Having travelled many countries and places, this is the one I always look very much forward to returning, from the minute I have to leave. The service couldn't be any better, friendlier, the food is excellent and I never get tired of it. The family running this place is so very much helpful organizing trips and excursions, that we come back each year with 20 students of our university. None of the students had any complaint, but all hoping to return one day.

I am quite late in writing this review...stayed in Hidden Forest 2 yrs back in July (drop down list only goes till 2011). I am quite a traveller and been to lot of hotels/resorts but this place scores over everyone. Be it location, food, room, service....everything was perfect. Though most people say that monsoon is not the best time to go to Gangtok but i would say that's the time...and the location of this hotel is really amazing..it was heaven watching monsoon rains from your room. The food was excellent....i was really surprised that they could North Indian food so well, honestly i never expected that. The staff was very courteous through out my stay. I would recommend this place to any type of traveller. Some folks have called it as "Hidden Gem of Gangtok", i fully agree. Hope to visit again.

The hidden forest is actually a bit hidden, little away from the main town spot. However, once you land up there you can spend all day at the retreat instead of trying to drive around for the local sight seeings. The setting of the cottages are awesome and the views beautiful. The food at the attached restaurant is mouth watering. You will love to explore the property, especially the library, the gardens and if you feel too lazy, just lounge around on the deck and watch the clouds roll by. We landed up quite late in the afternoon so could not get a proper lunch. However, the staff quickly arranged good chicken sandwiches. You will have to call for taxis to get the sight seeing organized but the lady running the show can help you with this. Someday we will go back there again!

Room Tip: Any room is a good room & I mean it!

This was an inspired choice for a honeymoon trip and we were rewarded with a great experience. The service, the location and the surrounding decor of the hotel / resort is so amazing in an increasingly commercialized town of Gangtok, that it feels like heaven on earth.

We didn't want to leave after 2 days and increased our stay there, just so we could enjoy few more days of pure bliss !

Room Tip: Try the local cuisine there - ask for Chhang and Yak Meet Chilly - they will make it specially for y...

Don't believe the Lonely Planet review! There wasn't a self-contained cottage to be seen let alone any Tibetan motifs. The place is pleasant enough but functional. The rooms are simple, clean and moderately comfortable although I was charged extra for the use of a heater which felt a bit steep in winter, especially as I wasn't warned - the charge just appeared on my bill. The staff varied from off-hand to charming although the breakfast porridge was excellent.

The location is a problem - it's a long walk from town and not a walk I'd want to do at night - dark streets, pot holes and crazy traffic.

It is, however, decent value for money and on a clear day the views are amazing.

If you want to relax in a beautiful and exotic surrounding - this is the place for you. Its removed from the main city business yet not too far. The rooms are nice and big and the view from our room (No 12) was exquisite. The sunsets were astonishing. While you may not have the luxury of getting what you want over the phone but its not so much of a task either of having to walk down to the dining area. Kesang and her parents are especially nice and hospitable. Not just them actually - every member of the staff were nice and polite and always smiling. Your choice in meals would be limited but they definitely sufficed our needs. They were well cooked and fresh. Did get the feeling while one might have an option to request for custom in between snacks - its not something that they encourage too much. This is probably only the second time in my life I have laid eyes on so many orchids in one place. They were all over and they were of various kinds, some unique blooms too. Not just orchids - the gardens were filled with vegetables and fruits. The owners actually were an avid collector of interesting specimen of flowers, vegetables and fruits saplings from all over the world. To keep up with their interest they started a nursery which upon requests from regular visitors to the nursery was subsequently converted into a small B&B resort. Guess rest has been history for this place. That there is something mystic about the place is evident from the moment you put your first foot onto the resort.

Its quite easy to get an auto rickshaw if you are keen to visit the Mall Road and even to get back to the resort which is quite widely known by everyone in Gangtok.

Overall - a must visit. Adults and kids would enjoy the place equally (without really putting in any effort to entertain you). Will definitely go back at the first available opportunity. Till then will recommend the place to friends and relatives.and all of you.

Room Tip: Should prefer a rooms facing the valley! All rooms are quiet so no worries there. During day time ro...
