Temple hopping in any state for most of the Indians is a usual activity. On holiday, I seldom visit temples. However, Hanuman Tok is a refreshing change. This place is known as one of the pit stops for Lord Hanuman who was in search of Sanjeevani Herb from that epic era. Now under the maintenance and operations by Indian Army, Hanuman Tok is a quaint little temple at an altitude of 7200 feet. The curvy roads pass through the hilly forest area which the locals say are frequented by wild animals. Absence of street lights restricts people to tread on this path post 8pm. The breath-taking route finally takes you to this peaceful temple where the divine bells fill you with tranquillity. The surrounding of the temple is even more stunning, overlooking the green forest and the town of Gangtok. Photography is not allowed inside the premises, hence please respect the same.

First time I visited this place, I was alone in my car. Just shortly before where the road leading to Hanuman Tok branches off to the left from the main road, there was a check post some distance ahead. It was my first trip, so being not sure I stopped behind some cars and asked to the army jawan "Is permit needed for Ganesh Tok too?" He was very jovial, smartly replying "Sir, Hanumanji is a God and no permit is ever needed to visit him. Take the left part of the road and drive".I have even visited twice or thrice thereafter. The army persons manning this place even helped us once with a free cup of tea, I remember.

Ganesh Tok is a part of the local city tour points that taxies / tour operators tout to tourists. But go here only if you have nothing else to do. Its no where like Hanuman Tok. The actual temple itself is very small and the view point not great.
