It makes no sense to visit this place in the absence of snow.
The lake is small, the water is brown, there are buildings everywhere, it is very difficult to find an angle for a photo so that buildings do not get there (or you need to spend a lot of time on photoshop).
The road to the lake is much more beautiful and interesting than the lake itself.

Its a beautiful glacial lake also known as Changu lake. Part of the restricted military zone visiting this lake would require permit. Around the lake you have Yak rides for kids, an rope-way that takes you up the mountain for view of the Alpine forest around. A bunch of food kiosks around too.

Tsongmo lake ( or Changu lake as called by locals) is one of major attraction of Gangtok. The visit is best clubbed with Nathu la pass & Baba Temple .Though there are no major activities except yak ride here , still the nature's beauty is worth watching.
We found little snow on the adjacent hills. But the view was breathtaking. The photos are best captured from the other side (after crossing the lake ) .
Do not except anything to eat here. Do carry water and some food stuff with you . Plan for 45 min ~ 1 hr ) depending on your schedule and interest

Lake is beautiful. all nearby activities are overcharging. just a 100mtr ride for a kid on Yak would cost INR 450. If you looking to just walk around and enjoy the views, its a good place.

The Tsomgo Lake, also popular as the Changu Lake, is a water body made of a glacier making it one of the best places to visit in Gangtok. Located at the altitude of 12310 feet, the Tsomgo Lake is one of Sikkim’s prime tourist attractions. The lake is located 35 km from Gangtok, en route to the Nathula Pass.

This is one of India’s highest altitude lakes and it’s known for its natural beauty. The sight of the surrounding snow cover hills reflecting on the Tsomgo Lake is one memory that you can cherish forever. The lake is about 1 km long and it’s shaped like an egg. Explore Tsogmo Lake in winters as it is the best time to visit Gangtok also.

Location: 35 km from Gangtok.

Best Time to Visit: Summer, autumn, and winter seasons.

Within an hour's drive from Gangtok lies this beautiful lake with an adjacent cafeteria and rope way. You need permits to visit which your car driver or transport agency would obtain for you. Do carry photo graphs and photo copies of your identity proof. This place is full with tourists during peak seasons and start early to avoid traffic blockades. There are locals who bring along Yaks for ride or photography. You can come back after spending time here or proceed to see the Nathula Pass, Baba Harbhajan Mandir and Kupup
