While I had to go to Gangtok to attend a business meeting, initially it felt tiresome to reach Gangtok via Baghdoga airport then a 4 hour long car travel. But after reach there it was like a heaven on the earth, Mayfair was having a testeful decoration which relate itself with Tibet.
Every single details of the hotel was worth a detailed view
The food was very tasty and hotel had a detailed variety of it.
The Cable TV was not of order but there was no time for watch Television in good surrounding of Gangtok

If you plan to be in Gangtok, please do not miss the visit to China Border. Thanks to Mayfair for nice food arrangement on the way to china border

From reservations to sightseeing trips being organized to checkout all was cluttered! We booked through phone from Delhi to their operator srijana, after credit card confirmation. After 20 minutes she called back we cannot hold the reservation. To add to the misery we had booked our travel tickets. I explained her, after many requests she said we have only premium cottage villa, where price was 70% up, with no option I went ahead with the booking.
We asked for a helicopter pickup on the day of check in, unfortunately that day due to bad weather the helicopters were not flying.
So we came by road and with proper confirmation from phone and email to the hotel, as a courtesy call that we do not want a pickup. On check-in immediately they asked that you need to pay Rs.900for the pickup first, as we have sent our person to helipad. Whereas they had confirmation from us that we do not want avail this.
Next day we asked them to arrange sightseeing options for us to go to changu lake, every person at the reception had different price for changu lake. Anways we booked, and one needs to arrange for border passes which requires processing in advance. They did in on our way to the lake, which waste 2 hours. The entry. way closes in the morning at 11 as weather conditions worsen. So we had a touch and hi kinda situation.
We had arranged for a private dinner for two at their restra.. which was supposed to be all inclusive. After ordering the food, the chef is chatting loud snacks and drinks would be extra. Anways since it was the second time after I wad taking my wife after our marriage, I did not create any fuss and cleared the amount. To add the food took 2 hours to come.
I explained this experience to the manager, he was more concerned that you pay for pickup.
It's been the most horrible experience at this hotel, they are cheats. I have stayed in best of Hilton, Marriott and taj properties, got enamored by the pics of the hotel but its a disaster. I have had headache for two days after the stay.

We were a group of 6 familiies with Kids in tow and spent 4 nights at the Mayfair Gangtok. Having stayed in Mayfair properties in Puri and Bhubaneswar, I had high expectations.

The hotel itself is expansive and spread over a hill with various sections called villas. The management has made all arrangements to ensure that disabled and the elder dont find it difficult to walk the steep inclines and have installed elevators etc. Despite that, a fair amount of walking is required so be careful if you're travelling with small kids, elders or disabled.

The property is gorgeous and all rooms have overlook the hillsides. The rooms itself are huge and have an outdoor seating area with a day bed. Great way to soak up a lazy afternoon while reading a book etc. Amenities are good with a free minibar (no alcohol) which is replenished everyday. So you really needent worry about stocking up on cookies, chips, chocolates and soft drinks. In addition there is an LCD TV, DVD Player and DVD's available to pass time. Also, if you;re visiting in the summer ensure that you have the AC on all the time since the location of the hotel (Ranipol) is very far from the main Gangtok and the place is pretty warm.

The hotel has a small pool which is ok to lounge about in and they also offer a gym, library, pool and table tennis, which should keep u busy the entire day. The new casino is an added bonus for those who enjoy gambling.

Despite all the pluses, we were very very disappointed about the food which was the worst i have ever eaten. Most of the dishes had fancy names and descriptions but were far off the mark when it came to taste. The desserts were mostly synthetic jellies which dont cut ice in such a highly priced joint. Breakfast was again expansive, but sadly lacked character.

Another minus point was the travel desk which was more like a rip off joint. If you're planning to go to Gangtok, they will quote you Rs 1300 for an Alto for 3 hours. Considering the distance of 11 kms, its too expensive. Also, their packages are extremely high priced. While a premium is understandable, this borders on extortion.

Lastly, the hotel is always choc a bloc with people and i sometimes got a feel i was in Delhi with all the noise.

We went there for our honeymoon! And i have to say i could not have asked for anything better! As soon as you walk in the place takes you by surprise! Its breathtakingly beautiful to start with. Its vast, coloured in most exotic images and hues, and architecturally designed to give you a feel of a true palace in the mountains. The hotel is a distance from the main market area unlike other hotels which are better in terms of access but this hotel is a visit by itself. The restaurant is great. Decent food... overlooks a hill. The bar is pretty well stocked as well. The bar tender we had was a delight in fact. Great service. The hotel also has a lot of facilities - specially if you are in the mood to laze, pamper yourself. The options in the spa are (a bit expensive) but a wide range to choose from. There is a gym, play room, mini forest area as well. All in all the hotel by itself is a great experience.
