“A wonderful experience”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

The hotel is worth every penny spent. I will describe the hotel under the following categories:
**Food - The food is really good and the prices are relatively cheap compared to most hotels. They provide veg and non veg dishes. Breakfast is free. They generally serve the regular cornflakes, eggs, bread, juices and idli everyday. Along with this they either offer puri and potato curry or vadas for breakfast.

** Rooms - The rooms are neat and clean. It is a modern hotel and is well equipped with most amenities. The room service is prompt and they clean the room on a daily basis and change the linen. They provide free wi-fi for internet access.

** Staff - The staff is extremely courteous. The service is quick and they also go to the departmental stores and purchase stuff if needed during your stay. The owner comes in the mornings and personally inquires about the service quality etc.

** Location - The location is the biggest plus point of this hotel. It is 1 minute walk away from the main Promenade and is in a peaceful residential area in the White Town. Although the hotel is not on the beach front, in a way it is a good option as the promenade is noisy and bustling with vendors and pedestrians.

**Services - You can hire a two wheeler for about 300 Rs/day. The hotel arrange the same for you. The advantage of hiring it from a hotel is that you don't have to pay any deposit and neither have to to deposit your passport or ID Proof as a guarantee. They also arrange ac cabs which cost Rs 500/3 Hours for sight seeing or a quick visit to auroville or the boat house. An additional fee of Rs 100 applies for every additional hour.

Room Tip: Recommend guests to book the Executive Deluxe Room and request for a room on the third floor. Ask f...

We traveled to Puducherry and booked this hotel on our way from chennai. To our surprise it turned out very nice. The courteous staff and owner of this place really reflect the true charm of this city, especially the French Colony. One can have the glimpse of the sea from the top floor balconies. This is a very good place indeed.

We booked into what they call their Annex, 50 metres or so down from their main hotel building.
The price was right through cleartrip.com and the room fine.
When a front room became vacant, mine host graciously transferred us to a front room. The room was in front and opened on to a balcory,The rear rooms do not open on to a balcony.
There is no refrigerator in rooms in the Annex, but the room has aircon.
The bathroom is clean, the hot water is available 24 hours, and it has an english toilet.
The manageress at the main hotel gladly offered us ice cubes to take to our room at the Annex for our own drinks.
The shower as in most indian hotels is in the bathroom next to the toilet,so the toilet floor will be always inconveniantly wet.
The reception had a very helpfull young guy 'Rick" who understood English very well. There is also a chilled drink frig in reception.
Although we pre booked and paid through cleartrip,we were hit with the new government service tax on checkout, very unusual for a cleartrip booking.
Also the car and driver we booked at reception to take us to Chennai after we had agreed on a set price, reception tried to add the extra so called Govt Service tax to the quoted price.
We cancelled and sought other quotes.
So in Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu, watch out for these hidden Govt taxes.
The main hotel building is very pleasant and well kept, and the rooms slightly more superior to the Annex, and there is a fine restaurant there as well, also offering a breakfast buffet and A La carte menu.
The street front rooms only drawback is the temple a few doors down the road, and although picturesque,do start with the drums fairly early in the morning.
Overall, this hotel and Annex are an excellent property, very clean and well managed.

An Internet cafe is a minute walk away and several good restaurants a walk away.
If you like Tandoori, the Salt & Pepper Restaurant around the corner, fires up the Tandoori oven outside, cooks a superb Tandoor chicken, and you can eat in or take away.
Bottled Booze can be bought a block away at the dark dingy & Grubby government run wine shops,
You can walk to the very fine paved esplanade area, and will find ATM's in that area, also the classic Colonial Town Hall [Hotel De Ville] and a splendid 4/5 star hotel offering cocktails and buffet dinner.
The tourist information is also on the esplanade a bit past the the Ghandi Statue, and just before the tourism office is a fine coffee shop "Le Cafe" on the water front with excellent expresso coffee, but bad food as we found out after ordering.

Looking at some of the reviews, I did book my reservation at the Executive Inn for my family and found to be a good value for money. Its close proximity to the Beach, Ashram and Shopping spots is a value add and we found that the Staff was very helpful and Room service at the Suite was quite commendable. The Complimentary Breakfast can be improved but was not awful. Overall happy with the Stay and doing a Good Job !

I stayed at the Executive Inn Pondicherry with my sister for 2 weeks, from 22nd January till 6th February 2011.
The owner of this hotel is also the manager. She takes great care to make guests welcome and comfortable, attending to their every need. The staff are also very friendly and attententive.
We had a suite room with balcony. It was very clean, and the view from the balcony was interesting. It was lively, but not noisy.
The location is very good. It is in the Frenchtown. The beach is just five minutes walk away.
I cannot fault this hotel in any way. The price is very reasonable for what you get

Room Tip: Ask for a suite on 2nd or 3rd floor with balcony
