I you dreamed about the colonial India this place is to visit to feel like atravel in time!
The rooms are hight and heritage but having tv and airconditioning.
The bathroom could be cleaner, same with the bed sheets
Social spaces are fantastic, the teraces and the patio.
The location is few streets distance from the beach but anyway the beach cannot be used in the way europeans do it!

If you're expecting a luxurious and comfortable stay, then this is not the place for you. The beds are hard as rock, the bathtubs appear dirty, and most of the employees struggle with English. However, for the price, it's not a bad deal. It's located within easy walking distance of most of the main tourist attractions. There is free wi-fi. And best of all, the food is outstanding.

La Maison Tamoule is in a heritage building. The design is quite fascinating and it is filled with antique furniture and knick-knacks. I took several photos of cool things just inside the hotel.

If you're on a budget, you should consider La Maison Tamoule. I would not recommend it for families, though -- it seems more suited to individuals or couples.

If you're not staying at La Maison Tamoule, I still highly recommend the restaurant. It served some of the best meals I had in Tamil Nadu.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your valuable review about La Maison Tamoule.

We have noted your feedback and shall take the necessary steps to improve the same.

As you may be aware, Neemrana tries to employ as many local people who are often not educated. We put them through a training program and then try to empower them to run their local heritage with pride. Although the service staff is not fluent in English, they strive hard to deliver warm and efficient service. Nevertheless, please feel free to contact our Manager for any assistance whenever you choose to stay with us next. He will be happy to attend to you.

Your generous compliments about the cuisine have been conveyed to the Chef and his team.

We hope that as you discover more of real India with Neemrana, you’ll find more to tell us about. On behalf of the entire Neemrana team we thank you for your patronage and look forward to welcoming you at our 27 properties across India !

Warm Regards,

This is clearly quite a recent restoration of an old property but a very comprehensive and extremely well done one. It lies just outside of the unfortunately named "white " town and thus on the wrong side of the old colonial tracks, or in Pondicherry's case, the canal, and so falls outside of that neat concentration of old Franco-Indian buildings. Nevertheless, it's close enough, and the street and more importantly the building itself, are full of character. I suspect the internal renovation may even have been something approaching a total rebuild, but whether that is the case or not, the end result remains a white bright hotel of great charm and restrained style, albeit one which may still be settling into it's shoes.

Full marks go to the extremely helpful and irrepressably polite and friendly manager Anbu and his staff for making our few days at La Maison Tamoule an enjoyable and memorable experience.

LMT is a very good hotel. The hotel interiors are good, the hotel staffs are very polite and helpful. The big plus of the hotel is its location, very close to the main market area (nehru st, <1km) and also close to Promenade beach (<2km). The food served in the hotel are also good.

A quaint little neemrana property - slightly tucked away. If a heritage hotel is your calling when you visit pondi - this should be on top of the list for complete value for money options. Having said that, what makes it delightful are the duplex rooms (we stayed at the yellow sapphire). These are cozy little rooms with the mezzanine for a bedroom. Tastefully done interiors take the idea of heritage hotel beyond period furniture. Most other houses converted to hotels may have similar ambience but these rooms surely add a twist to the tale. The service here is impeccable too. The staff would go out of the way to make you stay comfortable. Though a little away from the promenade and the eating joints its surely close to the shopping street and local markets.

The stay here has been a special experience. A big thank you to the staff for all their hospitality. We would surely stay here again on our next visit.

Room Tip: Duplex Room for sure!! (though the spiral stair could be a cause of concern for elderly and pregnant...

- beautiful old building but not much atmosphere
- cheaper rooms at 3000 rupees are great value for money
- a bit out of the way of most of the restaurants and sites
- formerly 'Le Calve'
- extremely painful booking process and full payment up front, which seems quite excessive

The hotel had a nostalgic feel to it. We found the hotel to be a really great place to stay. Service that we received was excellent, the staff was very friendly and helpful and they did everything to make us feel at home. The room was spacious and well maintained. The property itself is quite beautiful in an old style kind of way.

Best wishes

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
On a distinctive Tamil street of Pondicherry with red-tiled verandahs and seating platforms, lies La Maison Tamoule. This street was restored under the Asia Urbs Programme. Polished red-tile Attangadi floors surround a pillared courtyard over two floors. The verandahs lead to the rooms with Burmese teak doors and furniture. Light filters through a translucent roof above and the windows in the rooms tint the sunlight with their stained glass panes. This Baroque, Franco-Tamil architecture represents the same fusion as the colonial furniture and Creole food of Pondicherry. ... more   less
