This boutique hotel is located centrally in the old french town of Pondicherry and it used to be the house of the Mayor. The hotel has a typical French architecture with large, spacious rooms and a beautiful open central courtyard. My stay with my wife was very pleasant and comfortable. The hotel staffs were very efficient and caring. We had our breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was really tasty.
I would strongly recommend this hotel to all !!!!!

We chose Le Dupleix for a change as we used to stay in Promenade earlier. The change was rewarding and a good experience.

The hotel is centrally located and all important places like Aurobindo Ashram, Manakula Vinayagar temple, The beach and all good food joints are within walkable distance.

The front desk people and hotel staff are very caring and cordial and always ready to help. The food choice for an indian vegetarian is limited but the food is good. The breakfast was excellent and the choices good, both indian and continental.

Even though i booked a delux room, i was upgraded to a penthouse and the stay was very nice. The room was tastefully done up and the wood work in the room was palatial. The balcony and the carved chairs outside was a great place to relax.

Take care to ask for less noisy rooms as the masonary work in the next compound can be a pain for the odd room. the hotel staff oblige if they have rooms available to help out. Better to request for this while booking itself.

Overall, it was a nice experience and a value for money proposition. The Manager of the Hotel, who has come from Delhi takes personal care to meet with the guests and is always willing to help. She is also keen to take suggestions if any.

If you are looking out for enjoying that part of the french history of pondicherry, you will not miss out. Also take a walk through the by-lanes near the hotel and you will enjoy seeing the buildings with french architecture on both sides, taking you back to the colonial past.

Great stay and worth the money.

The streets of Pondicherry seamed to be in chaos and repair, you pull up outside this ordinary building and step into splendor. This hotel is great and a world apart from outside the front door. It has that real French provincial flavour and atmosphere about it. Our room was excellent but the bathroom needs an upgrade as does the shower and the hot water system, managable for a night; and the food very good.
I had a massage and felt like I had had a bucket of oil poured on me. No beach and Pondicherry was a little dissapointing, not what I expected. Good place to stay

located centrally in the old french quarter this hotel is typical of older french style. rooms are large but like france the ammenities are kinda added into the room. beautiful open central courtyard.

Room Tip: most are large and open onto a balcony/hall overlooking the central courtyard

This a beautiful boutique hotel in a great location, with a lot of old world charm, and just what you need as an antidote to the faceless chain hotels - especially when you are on business as I was. This was my second visit, and the first time (2011) was great. But the problem with this time is that the management allowed maintenance work at night-time. I was woken up at 01:30 by guys on a noisy metal ladder outside my bedroom window on the communal terrace, and then kept awake while they worked in the roof space above my room. I made a call to reception but am not sure this had any effect. I was kept awake for another 2 hours, and woken again at 05:00. For people on holiday, this would not be such a problem, but when you're working, you need your sleep. I wasn't offered anything by way of apology (for example, room price reduction), only told "sorry, they were fixing the boiler". Not sure I could fully recommend this, which is sad.

During our India trip last month we spent 3 days in Pondicherry at Le Dupleix. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous in every little way. As soon as you walk in you find the outdoor restaurant with a giant mango tree in the middle of it all, which also goes all the way up to the top floor. The entire hotel had a very old Indian British feel to it which I absolutely loved. We stayed in their penthouse suite which was an all glass room with wood bathroom. The ceiling for the bedroom was very lovely with it's hand carved decor. For the price we paid we really felt we got our money's worth. The hotel service was superb! They were extremely quick and efficient with all our requests. We were given complimentary large bottles of water everyday along with random biscuits and other goodies. We dined at the restaurant for lunch the first day and our meal was sub par. I got the shrimp risotto which needed a lot of improvement and my boyfriend ordered the steak with mashed potatoes. I'm not sure if they were just having a bad afternoon in the kitchen or not because the next morning we had their complimentary breakfast in the restaurant and the food was absolutely divine. Unlike other hotels where complimentary breakfast meant a breakfast buffet with hot and cold things, Le Dupleix offered two different breakfast services. They had out their bakery goodies along with fresh fruits as part of the buffet and then you order their hot breakfast specials which they bring to your table. I ordered the aloo parathas with yogurt and aloo bhaji and my boyfriend had the masala dosa. Both dishes were out of this world good. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, the location is fairly close to the beach and other restaurants, breakfast is delicious, hotel is very clean, service is great and decor is lovely. What more can you ask for!
