The Dune gives you what it says it will... Rooms and cottages are spectacular. Views and settings beautiful. Its truly the best away from town vacation spot. It has a bit of everything. Yoga, meditation, pottery, farm animals et al. Ride around on bicycles, take a walk on the beach, relax in the Sea Food bar or just go to the spa. The only glitch, food could taste better. Its not bad, but its not yum.

Perfect place to relax and rejuvenate with nature. Our Bamboo house cottage was tucked away in the woods with wide open ventilation bringing in the ocean breeze. I loved the idea of travelling around the place on bi-cycles; my 7 year old daughter got one for her size. Good interiors and lot of care gone into choosing the toiletries. The hammock outside provided the best setting (cool shade, ocean breeze and not other noise) for my book, small naps and some family photo ops. There is no TV so the family got to spend a lot of time goofying around and talking. The staff are very courteous and this is the second best selling point for Dune after the place itself. The pool is interesting but having the shallow side almost inaccessible was a bit scary for me but exciting for my daughter because she swims like a mermaid. The ocean is accessible from the property. The beach sand is almost virgin with lots of shells and no dirt. The food is good but i would have liked a lot more sea food choices. The pottery making activity is not just a photo op but the pot maker makes sure you learn something. You don't have to wait too long before you see some exotic bird. Peace. Nature. Relax. Family. Go there for the simple things that are priceless.

We were a little startled at first but after a while we really took to it. It is unusual. The gardens are beautiful, the beach handsome. The pool looked good. Our bed was comfortable and the bed linen of good quality. The food was well made. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. We found it well managed. It is not glossy but it is decent and sincere. We would have liked to have stayed a little longer.

We Decided to Go to Pondi for our First Anniversary & since its very special, we had asked the management to arrange for a romantic dinner. They mailed us saying it'll cost us 3000Rs.
But sent us a picture of a table with few flower petals and 1 candle!
Food charges extra!!
So we cancelled the plan and decided to go to a Romantic restuarant in Pondicherry instead.
P.S- NOBODY wished us for our anniversary and when we were checking out, the manager says they had arranged for a dinner for us and its "Customary" for them to wish people "Belated" wishes always.
WHY WOULD ANYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND DO THAT?!!!
Dumb dumb excuse for forgetting.

Pros about the hotel-
Location is beautiful. The private beach is lovely and a Fishermans' wharf is nearby where you can talk to them and relax.
Dog lovers paradise! Dune is home to 5 gorgeous dogs and you are allowed to take your pet there too.
Swimming pool is great.

Cons-
Restuarant is terribly overpriced. We ordered an Expensive Potato salad with herbs and we got PLAIN bioled potato with onion on top with an IMAGINARY pinch of salt. we couldnt even swallow it. Ratatouille was like a simple curry.
On the day we were checking out, we asked for soaps and shampoo refill as it was very hot and we decided to take another bath and Housekeeping gave us 1 tiny soap and no shampoo.
guess courtesy extends only on the days you are staying!

So in summary, if you want to go for relaxing on the beach and a rambling Rustic resort, then this is it for you.
If you are looking for amazing service and Truthful people who give you the service you are charged for, then Run away ;)

Fantastic "green friendly" aura with locally grown food, eco-centric cottages with open air designs, and wonderful central restaurant. Very boutique.

Service and management leave some things to be desired, and it's a bit overpriced, but overall I recommend this destination due to its charm.

Tired, slightly grotty and overpriced. What a disappointment beautiful location, lovely restaurant, amazing website. Rooms tired, smelling of damp, dark & dank. Bathrooms not maintained,,shabby threadbare towels, bed pillows & cushions soiled, matresses around the pool covered in bird poo, cigarette butts everywhere. Hopeless management.
On the upside great massage and good dinner in lovely main restaurant (miss out the seafood restaurant by pool, slow service and food very average). Interesting charity school subsidised by hotel worth a look.

Room Tip: Booked Dome House but changed as so many broken things, to BeachHouse which was equally grotty.

We visited The Dune Eco Beach in Pondicherry mid-December 2012. It was our first visit to Pondicherry and we concluded after our fabulous 5 days that if we return to Pondicherry it will be to stay at The Dune and to get ourselves pampered.

Beautifully laid out cottages in a vast property. We stayed in the Artists' Penthouse which gave us all the privacy we needed. We loved the deck chairs in a balcony and a very comfortable spacious room with large french windows that allowed us views of greenery.

The service comes with a friendly attitude. But it is all slow-paced considering the distances between the cottages and the restaurant etc. So you have to give enough time to them to serve you. The manager and travel arrangements are helpful and efficient. The manager sweetly gave us a tour of other suites and rooms for our next time. Each room is distinct in decor, comforts and location. Some rooms are larger than others. Some are more inland others closer to the beach.

Each room is provided with two or more bicycles. The vast property allows enjoyable riding on uneven roads.

The infinity swimming pool is smallish but affords a gorgeous view. The deck chairs under the blue sky are just lovely to lounge on.

The gym area is not air conditioned. So we avoided it!

The food is average. Breakfast is reasonably a good spread - egg preparations, dosas and fresh juices broadly. The choices on the menu are not as many as you'd get at a 5 star normally. It's limited and some preparations are good. But overall I thought the meals were all too cheese oriented. I didnt try their organic thingamies. And some things were not available because they would take time to make apparently ( some veal based dishes).
But the restaurant location and decor is most pleasing and relaxing. Lots of flies in the open restaurant... so beware! Being an eco hotel they do not use chemical repellents.

I tried aroma therapy at the spa and it was a BIG waste of time. Generally avoidable unless you are a fan of the Kerala Auyurvedic slathering of oil therapy. Not my thing at all. I am the no oil, Thai massage kind of person which was available but at the time no women masseurs were trained for it.

Things to remember:
The rooms have TV but no cable TV. They have a large library of film DVDs. But if you are particular get your own entertainment.

Being an eco hotel etc the rooms are provided with the most basic amenities. So get your toiletries, hair dryers, hair brushes and combs, room slippers, mosquito repellents.

Carry a torch. The outdoors is dimly lit.

And chill!
Gorgeous rooms (some are with mini swimming pools or jacuzzis attached) and beautiful natural outdoors make The Dune a luxurious experience! Must try it. It's great for couples or for family holidays as children would love the open grounds.

Room Tip: Every room allows privacy. So pick according to the decor, room size and comforts. Their website is...
