I am not sure if I should rate it good or bad. The room was clean. There is hot water in the mornings (bucket shower though). There is a bar that serves Heineken. And the location is fabulous. But they don't give you a blanket or a sheet. They don't give you a towel. They don't give you any soap. So I am not really sure if it's worth the price. You decide!

In the heart of the old ' French' quarters this might be one of the best budget options in Pondicherry. The rooms are not much special, a bit small, but location, price and service are the main reasons (for me) to stay here, and to return when I go back to Pondicherry.

When we first checked in I was impressed with the shiny tiles on the floor and the cleanliness of the bathroom. The staff were friendly, the bed had clean sheets and a think mattress, it was easy to order food and drinks to the room, and the location is great as it is just a short walk to the sea front and is surrounded by lots of lovely restaurants. I did notice a bit of damp on the walls but chose to stay there anyway as this is not an uncommon sight in budget accommodation. Then we tried to sleep. Firstly, unless the fan was on pretty high (making us shiver with no blanket or sheet) the room got incredibly stuffy which of course was the reason for the damp. Also, there is non stop noise coming from the building next door, you can hear all the other bathrooms running water, the dragging of furniture from other rooms sounded as if it was in ours, and people don't seem to keep their voices down which echoes though the room. We hardly slept all night, and woke up with coughs and colds to top it off.

I would not recommend this place despite it being listed in the Lonely Planet. We arrived very early (around 6am) and therefore didn't want to go round waking all the other hotels at such an hour. The room wasn't worth 600Rs, was ok but there were 3 cockroaches living in the bathroom. Worst of all was the guy who ran the place. They operate a 24hr check out service, we asked nicely if we could have an extra hour or 2 and even offered to pay an extra 100Rs for this privilege. He emphatically said no and said he would charge us 250Rs for us to check out later. We were absolutely astounded by this and think that the money would be going straight into his own pocket as I doubt he was the owner as all other owners I've encountered in India have been so accomodating and kind. To top it all off, he was still sleeping when we checked out at 6am the next morning, not impressed at all! Find some where friendlier to stay, that's my advice!
