We wanted to try some creole cuisine and after a little internet research, we settled on Hotel de l'Orient. The menu was quite different than the one posted online and outside the restaurant, and had fewer creole options than we had expected. Still we ordered the what was available-- the creole seafood and rice-- and were so pleased with it, that we ordered a second helping. For dessert, we had a forgettable chocolate cake and ice cream, but it was forgettable enough to be no big deal. The ambiance is striking and decidedly romantic, a little too much so, though, when Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" came suddenly blaring over the speaker system followed in random succession by "Raindrops Keep Falling My Head" and Garbage. A strange playlist by anyone's account, that seemed to be not the fault of the restaurant management but rather an obnoxious upstairs guest. Nonetheless, a lovely meal and one of the better dining experiences we had in Pondy.
