We stayed at the hotel in Pondicherry for Christmas in 2012; we got lucky as this was the only property with rooms still available during such a high tourist season and we got very lucky that the hotel turned out to be such a lovely one. The hotel is placed at the very beginning of the french side and its a lovely heritage structure with beautifully done up rooms. Since we were there for Christmas eve there was a Christmas dinner which we had to compulsorily pay for; but after seeing the spread it was totally worth it and after asking around this was the norm of most hotels during this period. The staff was extremely helpful and forthcoming and gave us alot of tips of where to eat and go and also helped get us a scooter to move around easily. The only real drawback we felt of this hotel was the quality of the towels that they provided; had changed our 3 times when we checked in and yet they were looking old and dirty! Spoke to the management about this as well during check out. On the whole a beautiful property; perfectly located and definitely a place I would recommend to friends and family..

We ordered a mixed grill, what we got was dry stale sauceless pieces of chicken, fish and mutton, and rare (bloody) pieces of beef. The trainees did not know half the dishes nor were they interested in finding out.

We left a hefty tip in spite of all that, because the serving staff were helpful and smiling. But again, since a restaurant is only about food, we won't be going back there!

The saving grace was the chocolate mousse, which was nice, and yes, the bread was good too!

Great ambience, great service, BAD food, what would you do?

We went to this hotel for dinner. Although, we were quite late, there were a few couples having dinner that time.
While asking about the food and the hotel's history, the waiting staff told us that the chef himself is a European and brings with him a 15 year rich experience in cooking. (Since we were not aware of many dishes written in the menu, i asked the waiter to get best one of each Veg and NonVeg dish.
Had a couple of authentic French dishes with Soup what he served us as their best. They were quite good and we were quite happy with overall presentation and taste of food.
(If you like spicy indianized kind of food, you might not be able to appreciate it much).

About the history of the place, Its a Heritage Hotel (it was French Governer's house till Independence which was later turned into Hotel). You can feel this as soon as you enter the hotel. The staff can tell you more about this(although they themselves arent much aware it, help yourself with Wiki).

Overall, it was a good experience of Nice food in an old historic place.

We stayed there. It is not 5 star, very old world. A 300 year old bungalow cleverly restored, clean and simple. Good food and great service. They go that extra mile and so centrally located. Loved eating on their terrace cafe under the mango tree.
