My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of August 2012. We didn’t have any problem with the hotel, and if we come to Menorca again we’d probably stay here. We booked it via Thomsons and got a web discount by walking into the local Thomson shop with a web quote printed off that day.

Our holiday straddled the UK bank holiday. After the holiday weekend all the families went home for the start of school term, and were replaced by older residents (‘snowbirds’). Apparently first week in September is a popular week for older residents at the hotel, and it was fully booked from that week on.

We arrived late on the first day and the receptionist grabbed our luggage from the taxi, and ushered us into the restaurant which was expecting us although technically closed, so we got a late meal, which was nice.

The weather was sunny in the upper 20’sC, but we had rain showers on three days.

If it’s quiet you want then this place for you, there is no disco scene at the hotel, but there is regular evening entertainment of a low key kind that finishes around 11pm. They had a soul singer, a dance band, a magician (he was good) and something we’d not came across before: a DJ playing requests from an extensive and varied list of recordings (you fill in a card from his list and he plays your requests).

The hotel has free password-less WiFi. In fact it had 4 WiFi connections, so I set my Smartphone to pick whichever had the strongest signal, depending on where I was in the hotel. There’s also a Bluetooth point near the indoor bar giving details of the coastal path (Cami des Cavalls) but I didn’t try the connection.

The hotel is smallish, 85 rooms, but it seems bigger somehow. We booked a ‘limited sea view’ room, since that was all that was available at the late time of booking. See photo: the view of the sea was better than I expected. It’s worth booking an upgrade, the standard rooms look out over the road, and don’t have much of a view.

The room (see my photos) was large and comfortable, and appeared to be fitted out as a disabled room. (Were they trying to tell us something?!!). It was adjacent to reception, and the room’s doorways were wide, also the bathroom had a raised toilet and hand bars everywhere. So I guess you could say the hotel is disabled-friendly. There were indeed ramps everywhere for wheelchairs. The room was very quiet although next to a lift (we didn’t get any noise from the lift). The walls are too thin though, and we could just about hear the guy next doors snoring.

The TV had a few British channels: BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, CBBC.

The bathroom has soap dispensers which contain a gel ‘suitable for washing, showering and shampoo’. So you might like to consider bringing your own. (Or purchasing from the Pharmacy down the road).

The room safe is key operated, and there is a 12 euro per week charge for the safe, with an additional 6 euro key deposit charge.

The hotel supplies beach towels, on which there is a 15 euro per towel deposit.

The grounds are extensive with plenty of sun loungers. The pool is good for doing lengths. Note that the pool is 10 foot deep at one end and ankle depth at the other. There is a fenced of bit of pool for kids.

The hotel is right on the beach, but there is a public promenade between the pool and the beach. The hotel beach bar/restaurant is on the promenade and is open to the public. The food at the beach bar/restaurant is OK.

The beach itself is soft white sand, and shelves very slowly so is good for kids. The sea seemed extraordinarily warm when we were there.

The hotel is located on a rocky outcrop, halfway along the beach. The promenade leads the full length of the beach and makes for a pleasant evening stroll.

We made use of the spa. The mini gym has a cycling machine, treadmill, rowing machine and other equipment. The indoor pool is smallish, but just long enough for lengths. There’s a whirlpool too.

Is the hotel child friendly? Well there were plenty of kids there when we arrived, though there isn’t much for kids in the hotel itself. There are plenty of play areas along the beach off the promenade with activities for children. We found a nice bar outside the hotel, turn right down the main road. It’s beside the crazy golf. And there seemed to be kids activities there. There’s also a pony club up one of the back roads across from the hotel, but we didn’t take a look.

We hired a car via the Thomson rep from ‘Owners Cars’ just down the road from the hotel, with full zero excess insurance. 132 Euros for a Corsa for 3 days. Owners Cars take payment in cash, so you don’t have the worry of them sucking money off your card once you’ve got home to pay for fictitious damage to the car. Driving in Menorca is quite laid back, no one tries to run you off the road! Note however that there are very few petrol stations on Menorca, so if you see one fill up. The nearest petrol station to Santo Tomas is at Ferreries about 10 kilometres away.

The hotel has its own car park at the front which you can use.

Santo Tomas is ideally placed for travelling on the south coast, half way along the island. It’s equidistant from the big retail therapy towns of Cuitadella and Mahon, both of which are about 30 minutes drive away. The small village of Fornells on the north coast is worth driving to.

There is a bus service from the road outside the hotel with half a dozen buses a day running to both Cuitadella and Mahon.

Breakfast was OK. There was plenty of fry-up for those that like it, plus the usual continental fare. Also free Cava at breakfast :-)

Evening meals were OK. You need to walk around a bit to see what the restaurant has on offer. One evening he was cooking an amazing lobster dish to order. Paella of various flavours was available each night, as was gazpacho, plus various other hot and cold dishes which changed each day.

If you like they will put your room number on your table so that you have the same table each day.

Santo Tomas itself is a nice place. It is served by a road which runs from one end to the other. It’s quite a small place, but there are enough shops to see you through.

There are coastal walks in both directions. These follow the signposted ‘Cami des Cavalls’ which the Menorcans are making a thing of as a tourist attraction. We took the one heading east, it’s signposted from the end of the beach. This is an easy and pretty walk and leads all the way to Son Bou if you have the energy.

Room Tip: Always book a room upgrade, you won't be able to get one once you are there!

Where to start...
Stayed at neighbouring hotel last year which was fine but liked the look of this hotel so booked early - it was a good job we did. Hotel was full when we were there and can see why there are so many return guests.
If you like a quiet, well run hotel which does the simple things properly, you will love this hotel. We didn't know places like this still existed. We had booked direct and the gentleman on the (small) reception knew who we were before we had produced our passports. We decided against the first room we were allocated (on the ground floor) as we felt it lack privacy (it's balcony was right next to the garden) but for anyone with mobility problems it would be perfect. Instead we had a first floor room. Even though it was above the restaurant there was no particularly intrusive noise. Staff were all excellent - many larger more expensive hotels could take lessons from how they do it at the Santo Tomas. They were a wonderful mix of professional yet friendly, remembering little things without having to ask - a pot of peppermint tea arriving at breakfast every morning. Food was plentiful and fresh, breakfast always more than was necessary for a hard day of snoozing on the beach. There was always plenty of selection at dinner. One small gripe was that during our stay fresh fish on the grill started to be pre-cooked and kept on the hot plate. As a result it was overcooked which defeated the object of having otherwise delicious fresh fish cooked to order on the grill. Wine list was just right at dinner - mainly Spanish with nothing too expensive given it is a 4* hotel. Advice from the waiters was always spot on - a special mention for the irrepressible Dani. This hotel should never let him leave! Bedrooms and public areas were all impeccably clean with cleaners in obvious attendance all day. We came to relax and that is exactly what we did. 10 days felt far longer for all the right reasons. We intended to explore the island this time but some how it just didn't happen. Oh well, maybe next time.....

Lovely friendly hotel, good choice of menu for breakfast and dinner. On the beach (almost) restaurant fo lunch.
The setting within the Santo Tomas resort is excellent for beach, walking, or just lying in the sun around the pool.

Very good bus service from santo tomas to Mahon and Cuitadella.

Made our eighth or ninth visit this September, and pleased to report that the Hotel is as good as ever.Although there are some new members of staff, the service we received was first rate as always. Whilst many of the staff are now like old friends, the new ones have clearly taken their cue from their colleagues.
The rooms were spotless and the dining room service consistently exemplary.
In terms of food, although we found some nights more to our liking than others, there was always more than enough to tempt us into over-indulgence.
The entertainment was varied, something to please everyone, and never intrusive.
For us the very essence of the Hotel was captured one sunny afternoon when the lovely gardens surrounding the beautiful swimming pool, was particularly full.of sunbathers, yet the atmosphere was 'hushed', and it might not have been quite as noisy as that! .

Room Tip: Full sea view rooms are on the first and second floor only. Those on the third and fourth floors (o...

This year has been the second experience in this accomodation and the last one has been even better than the first one.
Great facilities, good buffet dinner and a very nice swimming pool.
This is the perfect accomodation also for families: the outstanding position close to the Santo Tomas beach (in my opinion one of the best beaches in Menorca) make the access to the beach very easy.
Appreciate also the SPA and the swimming pool inside, just in case of bad weather.
The staff in friendly and prompt to support you.
Cars rental, supermarket, amenities quite close to the Hotel.
I hope to come back again next year.

Room Tip: The most rooms are seaview but you can also choose the garden suites in a small block close to the H...

We could find no fault with this hotel. Last year we stayed in a nearby hotel - noticed this hotel and asked to look around. The moment we saw it we knew it was for us (and our friends)! Although it was virtually full there was very little noise - day or night. No rush for sunbeds (unless you had a prefered position) and the cleanest and loveliest pool possible. Staff very good and helpful - both upstairs, downstairs and in the restaurant! Thank you - Hotel Santo Thomas for helping us have a wonderful 12 days.

Room Tip: We had a sea-facing room which was lovely - next year we would like to up-grade to a corner suite bu...
