Myself and my husband have been visiting Menorca for 15 years and stay all over the island , but Santa Tomas has always been a very special place for us clocking up at least 9 visits in 15 years .
Its a beautiful resort , not much there really but has a charm , some people say this resort is predominantly for families with children but thats not quite correct its absolutely full of older couples and single independent travellers .
It has always bedn a genteel and sedate resort , even with plenty of young families about its usually very quiet at night .
Unfortunately this holiday the resort has become very noisy and brash , the football shirt wearing element seems to have caught up and taken over the resort !
Previously as stated the whole place was asleep by 10.30 and a pleasure to have a late night stroll and sit in a lovely restaurant having a nightcap , alas this has changed drastically and the yob element is kicking in with very loud music , shouting , swearing , couples rowing in the streets late at night etc .
I sat on our balcony at midnight as couldn't sleep due to the racket from the two bars at the end of the resort , there were children running around screaming and shouting at this time .
The resort is still beautiful , the best beaches and fabulous restaurants but the general consensus is thats its going down hill fast , and sadly after years of visiting here we will not be returning for quite some time .

This was our closest beach to our villa, just 117 paces from villa gates to beach steps and although where we tended to go, (not far from Es Bruc), was quite narrow at that part, as we tended to just go for a swim and head back to the villa, not having to look for spaces amongst lots of others was good.

The beach was good, it was a little stoney at the end, but the centre was fine. It is quite shallow, so it would be good for children.

The beach at Santo Tomas is very good for sunbathing and/or swimming as long as you pick the best spot. When we visited in late September, there were two lifeguards on duty coupled with the standard safety flags flying. The sand was clean, and the water warm and crystal clear.
If you want to swim, do pick the right spot as there are patches with rocks that extend seaward. From the Hotel Victoria end of the beach the best spots start where the lifeguard sits and it's marked by yellow buoys. The rise and fall of the tide is not great and we did not find any currents that might trouble cautious swimmers. Also for children the beach is gently sloping as you enter the water. If sunbathing is your thing there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas for hire.
Just behind the beach is a promenade that extends for the length of the resort with a number of boarded access places to the beach itself. Many of these also have a foot washing tap at the promenade end.
At the end of the season it was delightful, but no doubt it's different in high summer.
