When I visited Monkey Park, was in reconstruction. There was animals (monkeys and huge turtle) running around freely. While entering, you will be photographed with parrots in your hands.

We had a pleasant day here, and for the price this small zoo was pretty good value, even factoring in the money we had to spend on a Taxi to get there and back from Las Americas.

There is a nice selection to see with some interesting write ups about their origins, eating habits, current populations ect. We spent most of our time in the cages where you can interact with the animals, the Madagascan lemurs were adorable and there was a young one which was happy to come and jump on our laps and shoulders, which made for some great pictures! Shame the poor guy had a damaged foot but it did not seem to dampen his spirit. In these open cages was also a giant turtle and big Lizards.

You'll not be there long, but it's a fun little diversion if you have a morning to fill and I'm sure kids would love it.

Ok, well, in writing this review, which is not easy, I am conscious of the many things. One is that there is not a heck of a lot to do in this area of Tenerife besides eat, drink, sit on the beach, etc. Another is that there are zoos all over the world. Another is that many of these so-called zoos are places where critically endangered animals are cared for and where breeding programs are facilitated. Another is that perspective is a major determinant of your experience in any situation. However, all this being said, I really think that if you really care about animals, you will give this a miss. Why? Because the animals in this place are really very, very unhappy and in some cases, unhealthy. I have no beef whatsoever with the staff, who are clearly doing a very good job, and who do their best to care for these animals. But I am deeply suspicious of the justification for the existence of this place in the first instance. I do not believe it is a captive breeding program. Normally I would never support a zoo of any kind with a visit, but I was curious to see if there was some attempt being made to assist with endangered species. It was clear to see immediately upon entering that these animals exist solely for the purpose of entertaining visitors and for making money for whoever is running it. They are unhappy and should not be subjected to the daily routine of imprisonment and of being fed and gawked at by visitors. There was one animal in particular, in the baboon family, who is clearly near insane, pacing up and down his enclosure, baring his teeth and even banging on the glass at visitors. This species is native to a rainforest environment and he is miserable in this arid atmosphere. He is isolated and unable to communicate with any of the other primates. If you think that humans are more intelligent than primates, I have nothing more to say to you, so stop reading. This place is not acceptable. It is an example of the depths to which the human race has sunk on this planet and it should not be supported. Just don't do it. Ethically, it stinks to high heaven.

Fun and interactive. Great for families but be aware of the crocodile! In the UK the lack of barrier would not be allowed. Safe but ensure your little ones do not climb over the fence!
