“Trapped in a crèche”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012 via mobile

Chose this holiday to be with our 5 year old grand daughter who had an amazing time and so I'm sure would rate it 5* +!
BUT ...... For the adults in the party in this aging isolated hotel the story was of disappointment . The cooks (clearly not chefs) managed to ruin most meat dishes and generally catered for the fast food brigade. Even the BBQ night meat was tough and inedible suggesting a poor quality/ cheap produce being purchased. The self service meals (incl breakfast) were the most successful.
The Thomson staff/entertainers were outstanding for the kids despite the strict formulaic nature of the pre-recorded and oft-repeated presentations. It seems head office prescribe the exact nature of the entertainment to the minute thus precluding any innovation by the guys and girls on site.
Our first room (113) was next to the pool chlorification plant and is to be avoided. Our second room (arranged with minimum of fuss by the Thomson rep (Gary) was excellent being on the second floor with a view of the golf course ( but note the green keepers start work at first light!). Beware that many room's only ventilation is through their patio doors which, if on ground floor, you probably want closed (and locked) at night. The so-called 'air-con' appears more just to blow cool air around as opposed to genuinely chilling the air.
So for us 'oldies' it was great to see our little one having such a good time but that was really the only saving grace for this aging holiday complex.
Would definitely try a Thomson family holiday again ......just not here at the Villa Mandi.

Our second visit in a row, any slights quibbles we may have had last year have been rectified this year. We had a bit of an issue with one of the bar staff who was very rude and not interested in being nice! Thankfully he is now gone! All the staff are lovely now and cant do enough for you, all very friendly and good sense of humour. Only other issue was the very slippery floor area around the pool, they have treated the main areas around the pool so is much better now, though untreated areas are still very slippery so be careful.
if you have children with you then the hotel has entertainment every evening with a very enthusiastic entertainment team.
As others have said it is a little bit of a walk into the main town but this wasnt much of an issue for us as we managed to find a bit of a short cut, going right out the hotel and following the road round and turning right by the school, a little further along this road is a big building on the left which we thought was a court house (though not sure on this) cut across the little path that runs along the side of the court house and cross the road to get to some of the restautants and bars. to get to the beach look for the mercadona supermarket which is on the left hand side of the main strip, follow the road around to the right and there is a small set of steps on the left hand side (just by a little car park) go down the steps and follow the road ahead to get to the sea front area. there are loads of cheap places to eat down there serving great food, we had breakfast in Rovers and in Surfers bar both serve english produce and do lovely meals. also along this area is Scampi's which is a lovely fish and chip restaurant. if you like italian food then i cant recommend First Love highly enough, is absolutely beautiful! all home made and wonderful young couple who own it, really feels like a nice laid, family affair with great atmosphere. For a great sunday dinner id recommend Surfers bar! absolutely lovely!
the onsite supermarket is reasonably priced with a fairly good selection but id recommend mercadona supermarket for really good value and everything you need.
it was a great holiday again and would be more than happy to go again, its a really lovely place!

Room Tip: we've had rooms in different ends of the hotel now and not had any issue with noise etc

We visited the Villa Mandi last May for our 1st family abroad holiday, We are a family of 5, with children aged back then at 3,6 and 7. We returned for the same week this May too with the children as we had such a fantastic time the 1st year. 2 of the waiters were still working there as were a couple of the reception staff. All the staff working here are fantastic even with the language barrier.

We went with Thomson so had their entertainment and kids club to use. Disappointed with the kids club this year though. The kids club workers are great, and truely interact with the children, My little lad adored luvin it Lee, the kids were also really pleased to see a friendly face from last year still there, Cheeky Charlie even recognised my lad. Nice to know they bond with the children. Anyways only reason I was disappointed with the kids club was because they had dropped the 4-6pm session. Only had it running for drop in at 1-3pm. Meaning that we had to cut a day out short if the children really wanted to go to that days session. Think they should of dropped the 1-3pm and kept the 4-6pm as this suits many families. Meaning they can still have a good day out, get the kids back to kids club, then once thats done its time for Tea and disco!

The pools are great for the kids, this year we didn't have to fight to get t least 3 sunbeds together, where as last year many of the sunbed hoggers had their towels on the beds by 9am even if they were out for the day.

The rooms are fantastic, both years we have paid for the 2 bedroom apartments. Always get 4 balconies and its split over 2 floors. We get 2 bedrooms AND 2 bathrooms, plus a mini kitchen which is good enough to do a little bit of toast or breakfast. Suited us well.

The cleaners are always on the go here, Poor ladies this year seemed to be working longer than last year. Maybe Tenerife has also been hit by recession and cut back on staff as the cleaners were still going into the afternoon, where as last year our rooms were done late morning at the latest. They are friendly and great ladies. I left my mobile phone both years in my room, along with money and my wedding ring this year (hands swelled with heat lol) and everything was just placed nicely on my pillow. They always arranged my childrens comfort teddies cutely on their pillows, which my children thought was lovely.

Villa Mandi onsite resturant is a great place to eat, We went S/C so we had to pay for each meal, but usually ate there most nights. For the 5 of us to eat and drinks was usually around 35 euros. The kids had a good choice, of british foods as well as others. The waiters were very friendly and great with the kids. My little lad is 1 of those kids who likes to wind them up but the waiters were just as bad as my son! Was lovely though, wasn't made to feel like the kids were in the way or annoying. Was told a few times to stop getting up and ordering drinks as its their job, and im on holiday to relax :)

The onsite shop is great, sells brands the kids know at a bigger cost, but when you have fussy kids you don't mind paying a little bit more to know they will eat something. a round of 4 ice creams from this shop was costing me a little under 12 euros. Staff are friendly and will help you if you need it.

The resort is a good 25 min walk from the Vistas beach, this is ok if it wasn't for our very whingey and lazy 4&7 yr old! So we Taxi'd it most of the time costing 5-6 euros 1 way. We ate at the Slow boat II on the sea front twice, this was lovely food, Also ate at the 2 resturants to the right of Mc Donalds on the sea front too, these places are lovely for food and friendly service. This beach is fantastic and perfect for kids to splash around in, Beware the sand gets really hot and yes you can spot the brits, we are the ones running to either the sea to get off the hot sand, or the nearest wood walkway!!
Supermarket is a 10 min walk across the dry lands in front of the hotel, this supermarket sells everything you need, tins of 5% beer for 27 cents, which kept my husband happy for when the kids had gone to bed. So much cheaper than buying them from the onsite shop.

Hoping to be back for a 3rd year next May. Sorry for the long review, just wanted to fit everything in. Love this place and really pleased we picked it for our 1st and 2nd family abroad holiday.

We stayed in the Villa Mandi August 2009. We were lucky enough to get the room which is featured in a photo on the postcard they sell in the shop! It had a beautiful private balcony overlooking the smaller pool area. There are two pools, and we found the smaller of the two ideal for our young children who were 4 and 7 at the time we visited. The hotel has good sized rooms which were kept beautifully clean, and the food served in the restaurant was great and there was always a choice for the children.
Entertainment was in a downstairs room which could get a little claustrophobic and it might be an idea to somehow arrange this to be outside. Facillities at the hotel were good although there was a struggle for a sunlounger as the pool area seems a little small for the number of guests, be early with your towel!
The shop on site is convienient although there are cheaper prices if you don't mind the walk across the ground in front of the hotel to the local supermarket (10 mins walk there). Location of the hotel could be a problem if you like to be in sight of the sea front or town. It is set in a quiet location near the golf course and so its ideal if you have hired a car or don't mind the 20 min walk into town. We had a car so it was never a problem for us and we didnt want a busy noisy town centre hotel.
We have stayed in Tenerife since and used another hotel just up the road from Villa Mandi- Granada Park- its literally almost next door but one! We would recommend the latter over the Villa Mandi purely because we now find all inclusive easier to manage budget wise, and the Villa Mandi is swisher but you pay for that. If you choose Villa Mandi though you wont be disappointed, one tip though..shop around for excursion prices, thomson is expensive.

We went to Villa Mandi in July 2011, we had an apartment opposite the garden, which was watered with sprinklers every day. The room was clean all the time and was really nice. There was two pools, one quiet and one where all the entertainment took place. Only thing is around the main pool it was very slippy due to water activities. The Thomson Rep were amazing! and so friendly!, on the first full night there was a 'Villa Mandi's big night in' where the room was split up into two teams and each one of the rep had to find a family. Charlie Brown came over to us and made me do a dry cracker challenge on stage against the other team which was certainly eventful. We had a great two weeks here and we loved every minute of it! It was a fair walk into town but we didn't mind because it was sunny most of the time and we did some lizard spotting. We ate in some really nice restaurants in town such as ''Chill Out Bar'' and ''The Breeze Inn''. I really recommend this holiday to anyone it's amazing!<3

Just got back from a weeks holiday at the Villa Mandi in Los Christianos, Tenerife and all I can say is Thank You! What a lovely complex - quiet, clean and not too big. The hotel staff were always helpful and always had a smile for you. The hotel is a bit far from the beach but then again when you book the Villa Mandi you know this so if you want a "beach holiday" it may not be the one for you although it still only took us 15 mins to talk to the beach and there is also a courtesy bus to the beach twice a day so you cannot complain about this!.

The Entertainment Team were amazing! Rockin Rachel, Krazy Kaela, Zip-Zop Zoe and J.C. could not do enough for you to keep you entertained! From first thing in the morning til after midnight they did all they could to make this one hell of a good holiday! Fun and games for the kids and the bigger kids (my old man for starters!). Victor, Clint and Gary, the holiday advisers, kept everyone informed about everything to do on the island from day one til we were on the transfer coming home!

All in all one of the best holidays I have been on! Will be booking to go back in September and renew new friendships! Thanks Thomsons for a great break and for your amazing team at the Villa Mandi!
