Stayed at the Arona Gran for 1 week 28th April to 5th May half board - breakfast and evening meals were the best i've expeienced in Tenerife / Spain & I've been to quite a few similar hotels but this one beats them all by a mile, key card is used for everything i.e drinks at the bar / snacks at the pool 15% discount at the end of your stay if you join Springs leisure, (free) just a perfect break...will be going again in December

My wife and i were after a chill out holiday for our first wedding aniversary and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is impressive in appearance, good quality and freindly staff. It was mainly elderly people so not recomended if you want to party the night away but the benefit of this is you have no problems getting a relaxing swim without having to fight through the teenagers.
We went bed and breakfast because there are lots of good quality restaurants within walking distance and we prefer to dine at different places. Having said this the breakfasts could not be faulted with plenty of choice for everybody.
Plenty of cheaper bars/taverns nearby because drinking in the hotel all the time could get a bit pricy.

Stayed 24Apr-03 May HB and had a great time. Big big hotel full of marble and greenery inside and lots of tasteful furniture. At the far end of resort, so away from anyone selling their wares or timeshares. We opted for a taxi transfer from the airport, which was 25euros each way, but only takes 10minutes, so no waiting around.

No queues at reception and speed check-in, including token for free glass of Cava (or soft drink). Service throughout hotel very professional but friendly. There are daytime activities (archery, rifle shooting, shuffleboard etc.) but no pressure to join in. Nice big pools though a bit cold, though it was still April/May.

Majority of clientele on the elderly side, but did mean a peaceful time round the pool. No problem getting a sunbed, though several days were cloudy, which might have helped. The Spring hotels card is a must, makes the fairly expensive drinks in the hotel more bearable with 15%off, but main thing for me was having the late check-out at no extra cost as I hate the last day hanging around in travelling clothing if you have a late flight as we did. The rooms are nice but nothing special, though the padded sun-loungers on the balcony are a bonus. Great UK TV coverage (BBC1,2,3,4,Sky Sports1,2,also BBC World News.

The big thing for me was the food. The choice at the buffet was astounding and top quality (roast of the day included Beef Wellington, Lamb, Veal, Baked Salmon, whilst the grill station included Giant grilled King Prawns, Sirloin/Turkey/Lamb Steaks cooked to order, there was even something that looked and tasted like Caviar with the salad, (all the salad was lovely and fresh). I got addicted to the Mojo Rojo (red pepper sauce) but it is extremely garlicky. The Bucks Fizz for breakfast twice a week was a nice touch. I only eat fruit for breakfast so can't comment on the normal stuff but it looked good.

Although food/drinks not allowed into the hotel, the security guard never stopped us as on occasions we brought stuff in from the Netto (excellent fresh baguettes!), which is literally across the road, there's also an Iceland just to the right of the hotel. (the Netto isn't like one in the UK, it's a Netto-branded small Spanish supermarket, maybe a franchise?).

If you yearn for the pub, there are 4-5 Brit pubs a minute's walk away, reasonably priced beer (most 1euro50 a pint) most with some form of entertainment. Be warned I don't know what the law is there but a lot of bars seemed to allow smoking in Los Cristianos, thankfully the hotel didn't.
The main Los Cristianos resort is a 15minute walk away, where the better beaches are. Can't comment on entertainment in hotel as didn't bother, we went into town most nights.

Overall a wonderful relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings (but with the hustle and bustle of a busy resort not too far away if you want it)

I stayed at this hotel for one week in April 2009. Me and my partner are in our late twenties and extremely disappointed to find out that the nearest decent beach is at least a 30 min walk. We did rent a car and in our case we sorted the problem out as we travelled accross the island to experiment different beaches, but if you are looking for a beach holiday that allows you to stay at the hotel and just step into the beach at any time you want this is not the place for you. The hotel is next to the sea, but through rocks...not really ideal for swimming or even sunbathing.... The pool area is decent, but there is not much to say about it as there is not much animation or activities going on and it is not that bi. The majority of the guests are enjoying their retirement and although I do like to be around older citizens the hotel doesn't really make it up for younger guests. In terms of room quality and overall decor it is quite good and very clean. The staff are overall friendly and helpful. Breakfast is quite good.

After recently arriving back from this beautiful hotel (24.04.09), I had to write a review. I had read alot of reviews all with mixed opinions, which you would expect as we all have different tastes. Things like "being woken by the boats horn as they enter/leave the harbour" & the "staff not being so friendly".....Watching the boats coming & going is one of the beauties. & take time to watch the staff, they actually do a fantastic job. This hotel definitely has the wow factor as you arrive in the reception, and it only gets better. If we had to make any comment to fellow people booking it would be, the clientele is 90% elder generation. We are both close to our 40's, & as we were leaving teenage children at home, this is exactly as we wanted, so was a pleasure. We did go out of school holidays so this could be a different story at a different time of year. Filling in the form for the spring club card is a must if you would like to receive 15% off your bill & a complimentary room on day of departure. We ventured out only a few times, as we discovered that eating out at lunch was no cheaper than the hotel, & we preferred the luxury of the waiting staff & the soft furnishings. The harbour is great, busy and lots of excursions available should you prefer. Which are cheaper to book at the harbour than at the hotel (sorry Thomson!). Entertainment during day & night, is obviously each to their own, but available none the less. We did watch a couple of the evening shows, but preferred to prop the bar up & spend the evening in beautiful surroundings chatting away. There is a Netto opposite the hotel for those snacks & drinks in the room. You are NOT permitted by the hotel to take any food or drink in from outside. Never the less this does go on!! Food for breakfast & evening dinner was wonderful. I suggest once you have found a table, that you take 5/10 mins to walk around to check out exactly what’s on. There really is something for everyone. I’m a veggie & don’t like dairy products! & even I was more than satisfied. We have been privileged enough over the years to go to some wonderful places, Maldives, Egypt, Africa to name but a few & I have to say as our first trip to Tenerife we were sceptical, but pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We enjoyed it that much that we are hoping to go back next year. Warning for you sun worshipers out there, you WILL still need a brolly at some point during the day to get out of the burning sun. Hot hot Hot.

My wife and I stayed here 7th - 14th April 2009 on a half board basis. Normally we dont do half board as we enjoy eating out in different restaurants each evaning. We were happy to forefit 3 or 4 of the evening meals so we could do this. However the food in the hotel was really good. The buffet was always fresh and well stocked whatever time we decided to dine and the choice was superb. Each evening there was a different roast, pork, beef, veal, fish, of the day, etc etc and the chef also prepared fresh, a variety of meats and fish on demand. The filet of beef was particularily good. There was nowhere in the area we could see to match let alone better the Hotel for food. We signed up for the loyalty card, as recommended, and got 15% off all the extras on our bill. DONT miss out on it, theres no hidden agenda. When checking in get your room safe organised. Its a nominal charge and is not offered when you arrive. This will save you having to come back down again to get it. We were in room 654 on the top floor. The room was not very spacious but more than adequate. There was space in the mini bar to put some drinks of your own and they didnt seem to mind. The staff were, without exception, courteous and friendly.
Located at the end of the promenade you can walk for several miles and have as many pitstops as you want as you go. As you walk along, about 10 minutes from the hotel, theres a restaurant I cant remember its name but the Irish Times bar is above it on the corner at the entrance to the beach. Here is a great place to while away the afternoon with a nice bottle of wine and soak up the atmosphere.
We are booked to return at the end of October again this time with 2 grannies, which speaks for itself.
