Spring Arona Gran Hotel
Ranked #3 of 13 Hotels in Los Cristianos
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Having taken many holidays at the Arona Gran over the last 12 years, I can say that high standards are being maintained in the cleanliness of the rooms and in the quality of the food provided, and in the morale of the staff. In regard to the food, given the numbers being catered for, it is very good. Also Dinner is available from 18.30 – 22.00 and I found that whatever time I turned up that there was always a good choice of freshly prepared food available. Overall the hotel provides a very good value holiday package, especially if you take advantage of the Spring Club Card scheme.
Over the years the hotel has obviously focused on customer loyalty and in building up its direct business which certainly offers advantages to the hotel and customers. Their success is evident in the full capacity numbers that now occupy the hotel, and herein lies the challenge for management in handling these numbers.
I was affected by an ‘over-booking’ problem and was in fact diverted to the Marylanza Hotel for one night. Now whilst the staff at this hotel were pleasant and helpful and the room was clean the customer profile and sector of the market they are catering for is I think quite different to the Arona Gran. Also there is the inconvenience of not unpacking your belongings, which means that your clothes are in your luggage for at least 3 days, and may be rather creased as a result. On asking Arona Gran Reception for the use of an iron, I was rather surprised to be told that they could not provide one, but I was informed me about the laundry service available – which was not what I needed. Surely, a few irons would not go amiss, and could be hired out say for 5 euros an hour to ensure prompt return for other users.
Through communication with the Reception Manager and a bit of patience on my part I was accommodated in my preferred part of the hotel, which given the full capacity was undoubtedly a challenge for her, and I much appreciated her desire to help fulfil my request. I must also mention that I was given a decent discount and complimentary drinks, and that kind of goodwill always leaves a pleasant impression with guests.
As others have reported there is a great deal of very early reservations of sun beds going on and if you have a preferred spot that you desire – well you will need to get your towel on it by sunrise. That said, there is not a lot of reserving and then not using going on, people were certainly parked on them for much of the day.
There is a large gym which does not seem to be a facility in great demand at this hotel. There is a lot of equipment in the room, but sadly a lot of the weight machines are not in good working order and could do with quite a bit of maintenance work on them. Perhaps much of the problem lies with some users who have little knowledge, respect or care in the way they use the apparatus.

Room Tip: I prefer a Pool / Seaview room facing directly out to sea and on the 3rd floor or above

We have just returned from a week's holiday in this hotel, wasn't disapointed, the hotel was very clean and as soon as you walked into the foyer it was beautiful, the food was excellent and the staff very friendly. The rooms were very clean and the balcony had a table, loungers and stools. Our room was overlooking the swimming pools and sea. Very nice indeed. Okay it is about ten minutes walk from the centre of Los Christianos but it was no problem for us as we wanted some where quiet to have a lazy holiday. The animations were quite good I did aqua gym, which was a lot of fun, no rpoblem for the sunloungers near the swimming pools, we used to go in early afternoon and found sunloungers very easily. Found sitting near to people in the restaurant no problem, chatted to quite a few. Thinking of booking for next year, really enjoyed it.

spent 10 nights at this hotel great view from the room which was bigger enough but the general feel of the place was like old butlins rude staff look warm food. the pools were good and other facilities petty good also but the breakfast has to seen to believed rude staff feel its below them to set the table once you get a table you find your sharing with someone else then you have to get your coffee yourself from a machine there are people bumping in to one another walking around aimlessly you have got to pinch yourself that the hotels says its four stars most of the guests at this hotel are british which proves the brits will put you with anything

This was our second visit following another enjoyable vacation 12 years ago.
Someone earlier mentioned it was now in need of a refurb. Rubbish! The hotel must be some 20 years old, but because of the materials used, such as anodised aluminium balconies, it is hard to spot any deterioration in the building. It appeared no different to our first visit.
Although the restaurant gets very busy at peak times, in particular breakfast at 9 can become a feeding frenzy, this is more than made up for with the quality and variation of the hot & cold buffets.
Yes, the average age is over 55, so what. They all seemed of a charming disposition. And no one had need of the resuscitation equipment on hand!
I found the reception staff to be helpful on the numerous occasions I need taxies and directions.
I think the telling fact about how excellent this hotel is, is that every single one of the people I chatted to were returning guests like us. One couple said they have been coming every year, twice a year, for the last 20 years. I can understand why.

We have just return from having spent a week in the Arona Gran hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent, the best we have ever tasted, the entertainment was great, and the staff very friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel to those who want an excellent first class hotel. It is an ideal hotel for couples, as it was a very busy hotel with exellent facilites but also very quiet.

Second visit to this hotel and it does not dissapoint. First class hotel fab food always a good variety. Staff are brilliant well turned out and very professional. I do feel that Los Cristianos is looking a bit tired and run down, and it was very quiet in the evenings due to the time of year.
I also joined the hotels loyalty club which meant we had a 15% discount on our food and drinks bill which was super.

First class staff, well dressed and well trained. Well deserves its four star rating for food and entertainment . The Hotel pianist, Jeremy Powell was fantastic a very professional entertainer, we had many a pleasant evening enjoying his many talents. NIght club entertainment above average for four star Hotel. In house group also played very good dance music, but the dance floor was on the small side but the music more than made up for it. We will return to this very well run Hotel. Thank you to all the staff at Arona Gran Hotel.
