Having taken many holidays at the Arona Gran over the last 12 years, I can say that high standards are being maintained in the cleanliness of the rooms and in the quality of the food provided, and in the morale of the staff. In regard to the food, given the numbers being catered for, it is very good. Also Dinner is available from 18.30 – 22.00 and I found that whatever time I turned up that there was always a good choice of freshly prepared food available. Overall the hotel provides a very good value holiday package, especially if you take advantage of the Spring Club Card scheme.
Over the years the hotel has obviously focused on customer loyalty and in building up its direct business which certainly offers advantages to the hotel and customers. Their success is evident in the full capacity numbers that now occupy the hotel, and herein lies the challenge for management in handling these numbers.
I was affected by an ‘over-booking’ problem and was in fact diverted to the Marylanza Hotel for one night. Now whilst the staff at this hotel were pleasant and helpful and the room was clean the customer profile and sector of the market they are catering for is I think quite different to the Arona Gran. Also there is the inconvenience of not unpacking your belongings, which means that your clothes are in your luggage for at least 3 days, and may be rather creased as a result. On asking Arona Gran Reception for the use of an iron, I was rather surprised to be told that they could not provide one, but I was informed me about the laundry service available – which was not what I needed. Surely, a few irons would not go amiss, and could be hired out say for 5 euros an hour to ensure prompt return for other users.
Through communication with the Reception Manager and a bit of patience on my part I was accommodated in my preferred part of the hotel, which given the full capacity was undoubtedly a challenge for her, and I much appreciated her desire to help fulfil my request. I must also mention that I was given a decent discount and complimentary drinks, and that kind of goodwill always leaves a pleasant impression with guests.
As others have reported there is a great deal of very early reservations of sun beds going on and if you have a preferred spot that you desire – well you will need to get your towel on it by sunrise. That said, there is not a lot of reserving and then not using going on, people were certainly parked on them for much of the day.
There is a large gym which does not seem to be a facility in great demand at this hotel. There is a lot of equipment in the room, but sadly a lot of the weight machines are not in good working order and could do with quite a bit of maintenance work on them. Perhaps much of the problem lies with some users who have little knowledge, respect or care in the way they use the apparatus.
