“Good Hotel”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Second trip to Arona Gran and still impressive. However the rooms are getting dated and we were unfortunate to get a room without any sun. However on speaking to other couples that had the sun all day they complained about the rooms being too hot. Our room was nice & cool to sleep in!
Would not class this as 5 star its a good 4 star hotel. Plenty sunbed and lovely pool area.
Food plentiful, good but not hot enough.
We like the location but they are several areas that I am wary off around the hotel. Just to the east of the hotel, not seen when in the hotel, there is an area of beach which is used by nudists!
Loads of bars nearby that are cheaper than the hotel & several have quizzes, live music etc.
Hotel entertainment every night but we did not like it.
Would return as this is a well run hotel why treats its customer well.

This is our second visit to the Arona Gran. Last year we had a room overlooking the pool, which was lovely, but we didn't get the sun onto the balcony. This year we had a room on the other side of the hotel and had the sun all day, plus a view of the sea. There is a block of flats a little way away, but these don't spoil the hotel, in fact we didn't see anyone there at all. There are some bars along the road nearby and there is music every evening, but only until midnight. It is then very quiet.

The food at the Arona Gran is amazing. There is such a wide variety of choice. Be aware that neither coffee nor even water is available free with the evening meal.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and in a wonderful situation at the end of the promenade.

We went on two trips this time. One was with Thomson to Teide by Night. Do this trip if you can. We watched the sun set down through the clouds (we were above the clouds at sunset), and then stargazed with the help of a very well informed guide and his laser beam with which he pointed out the constellations. Our other trip was booked through the hotel and was a day visit to La Gomera. Again, a wonderful trip to a beautiful island which reminded us of Peru, due to its fantastic geology and also abandoned terraces.

We will almost certainly go back to the Arona Gran, but probably after we have explored the other Canary Islands.

Just back from our second visit to this hotel. Was very disappointed that the room was in serious need of an upgrade. The furniture was old and tired and the sun never reached our room. The holiday company that we used markets this as 5 star. There is no way that this is 5 star. Last year I think that we had an renovated room which was much brighter.
Apart from that this still a very well run hotel with excellent staff. Food is plentiful and good. Only complaint would be is not kept hot enough.
The pool area is really nice but is spoilt by sunbed bagging at 8am. Most culprits only appear after 11am. The hotel used to remove towels but did not this year.
The entertainment is not something that suited us but loads of people appeared to stay in there at night. We went out and about.
Would recommend this hotel for a peaceful relaxing holiday, however if you are looking for a lively hotel this is definetely not the place to go!

Just come back from a lovely weeks holiday at the Arona Gran Hotel, having taken an early year vacation for some sun. The hotel is everything you could wish for. Our room was a partial sea view on the ground floor and we could see more of the sea than we had expected. the only drawback was the room was right at the end of the hotel and did not get any sun in January. No problem because we just popped down to the pool where there were lots of available loungers, even with the hotel being full. We found out that many people returned the same weeks year after year, and that did not suprise us. The hotel was spotlessly clean, we have never been in a cleaner hotel. Food was good but not fabulous, and it could get a bit chaotic in the dining room particularly at evening, but with so many opeople wanting food at the same tile it was no suprise.. The only dissapointment was WiFi. This is free in reception but chargable for use in rooms. It was rather expensive and not very reliable, but that is only a very very small negitive. Location is at thne end of the promanade with a supermarket opposite the hotel front door and pharmasiost within the hotel complex. Towels were changed in bathroom every day at our request, and bed linen changed every day, this as a matter of course. Do not hesitate, book now, as we will be doing again at the first oppotunity.

Room Tip: Our room was 171 probably a Thompson room but was great. Bathroom and sleeoparea were quite large.

The reason I have put this title is that when I arrived at the Arona Gran Hotel I was told that there was not a room available for us despite the fact I had booked direct wth the Hotel 3months prev and had it confirmed the day before travel. After quite a long wait, with much discussion from the reception staff, I spoke to someone at head office who asked us to go to the Vulcano for a night and then back to the Arona Gran when we ould be upgraded to a pool view room and drinks at dinner. I felt we had to agree and went to the Vulcano. This is supposed to be a 4* star sister hotel to the Arona but it is definately not 4*. Its rather tired, with masses of very long ferns hanging from every indoor balcony and looked very scruffy. The shower in our room was broken and the sunbeds were in a very strange configeration, they were in line after line behind each other round the pool and the only shade was 6 metal bars over the sunbeds, abit like a bike shed, which gave no sun protection at all. The evening meal was indifferent. However the next day we went back to the Arona Gran, and there we were upgraded to a suite which was fabulous, a big room with a bed settee and chair a big tv on the wall and a balcony with 2 sunloungers, the bedroom was lovely with another wall tv and balcony with lounge chairs. We had tea and coffee making facitities, we also had wine, beer and water with the evening meal, a free safe. We felt that they had made every effort to make up for not having a room. The Hotel was immaculate, very smart, the 2 pools were lovely and clean and a good tempurature and the sunbeds had nice thick mattresses and no shortage of them even though the Hotel was full. The breakfast and evening meals were excellant, it was like being on a cruise for the wide choice of food. The only slight drawback was the dining room was very busy and at peak times we had to wait for a table but not for long. The Hotel is at the end of Los Christianos but there is a pleasant flat walk along the front. The way the Hotel is set out room at the left of the hotel, facing the sea, have no sun all day, the rooms for the sun are on the right on the hotel. Its worth asking for them as there are sun awnings to give sun protection. Booking direct with hotel gives you a 10% discount, airport transfers and tea and coffee making in the room and a bottle of water. Yes the average age was 60 plus and there were no children but maybe that changes as the season goes on. I would definately go back again and recommend it to friends, we were spoilt of course with the suite and drinks with the meal

Room Tip: Choose a room on the right of the hotel for the sun

Stayed 25th Jan-1st Feb 2013. On arrival we had a free upgrade to a suite in the south west corner with 3 balconys! (room 420) It was so nice we spent more time there than would normally.
The public areas of this hotel are clean and spaceous, the staff are helpful and friendly. Although it is mass catering buffet style, in the evenings a waiter/ess is there quickly to take a drinks order. I enjoyed the food and even with dozens of people all loading plates you never had to wait long to get what you wanted. Some of the entertainment was of a cruise ship standard however there was some gems like the Eagles tribute band. The location is at the quiet end of the beach but Los Americas is only a 15 min stroll away if you want more life. If you are young you have to understand the majority of clients are ederly and sometimes not that mobile. We never failed to find two sunbeds round the pools and I saw no early bagging a sunbed with a towel. I only have 2 minor complaints: No kettle in the room and please stop this archaic ritual of once a week introducing the hotel's managers to people around the pool and asking us to clap! There are 2 bad reviews of this hotel and I failed to understand why. We rarely return to the same place twice but if we come to Tenerife again this is where we would stay.

We have just returned from our annual January holiday at the Arona Gran. This hotel improves every year we go and we have been going for 20 years. The staff are friendly and helpful, two small things in our bedroom needed correcting ( a light bulb and a tap ) which was done within 1/2 hour, The food is good and the entertainments programme both during the day and in the evening are first class. Well Done.!
