“Fantastic stay...would definitely return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

Stayed for 4 nights as part of a twin centre holiday in tenerife. First impressions were excellent and we never felt let down after that.

We arrived at the hotel reception at 9.50pm and were stright away asked if we were hungry and wanted a meal or would we prefer something to be sent to the room. We opted for a hot meal and were taken straight to the restaurant before it closed at 10pm. We were allocated a specific part of the restaurant with a few other couples from our flight and the food was as hot and as nice as it would have been at 7pm when the restaurant first opened. We never felt rushed to eat and were given plenty of time to enjoy our meal and drinks. The nice thing was the waiter came round and asked each of us if we wanted anything more from the buffet before they started clearing it away. Even at this stage 10.30/10.45pm the waiter was still in fine form and was very welcoming.

The food remained the high point of our stay. each morning at breakgast there was so much variety to suit every type of taste and diet. Fresh omellets cooked to order, bacon sausages, baked beans, hash browns, scrambled or boiled eggs etc. 7 or 8 different types of cereal, lots of breads, yogurts and fresh fruit. It was very impressive. Dinner was the same. Never the same food 2 nights in a row and there was always a `special` dish on be it paella, roast pork, steaks etc. The salad bar at evening meals were especially impressive with every salad item you could think of as well as pre-mixed salads such as greek russian and mediterranian salads.

The pool area was very relaxed, and although busy, it was never a problem getting a sun lounger.

Rooms were well furnished and bright with flat screen tvs and excellent showers in the spacious bathrooms. As far as we could see, pretty much every room had a supurb view of the sea looking across to the harbour and on into los cristianos.

After dinner there was no shortage of things to do. There was always a main show in the show lounge and if you wanted something quieter you could sit in the piano bar and have a nice drink or cocktail. Drinks throughout the hotel were paid for using your room card and the bill was cleared upon checkout. This was an excellent system as you never had to carry cash to the pool or at night.

The hotel was no more than a 10 minute stroll along a well maintined promenade to the centre of los cristianos. The beach front was peppered with excellent restaurants of all types and weather you wanted a british style pub with shows and karaoke, or a suave cocktail bar, there was something to meet everyones taste.

All in all, we had a fantastic time at the arona gran and would definitely return and reccommend to anyone thinking of a nice relaxing break in a good quality and affordable 4* hotel

Normally my husband & I have stayed in The Vulcano Hotel in Las Americas but since the management has changed we found it had deteriorated and couldn't get our usual room. We decided then to book Arona Gran where we had been once before. Our room was in a lovely position on 4th floor where we had a view over the harbour. Our only request would be that they run a shuttle bus into the centre of Las Americas as we found the walk there quite exhausting and most clients are of a mature age.

Fantastic holiday. Booked through Thomson but would book direct with hotel next time as hotel is cheaper and includes airport transfer.
Rooms were comfortable and clean with recliners on the balcony.
Lovely indoor pool with jacouzi, outdoor pools were great with plenty of sun beds. there's also a nice seating area by the pool with comfy chairs for relaxing with a good book, each morning after breakfast we would take our last cup of coffee from the restaurant and chill reading the morning paper.
Evening entertainment was good although nothing special.
But the best thing about this holiday was the food - gorgeous. The soup was really tasty and piping hot, a roast carved every night and steak cooked while you waited exactly to your taste. Fish was also on the menu each evening and there was a good choice of vegetables and salad. The usual puddings plus cheese and biscuits, fresh fruit. The breakfast was just as good, the staff in the dining room and bar were realy lovely. Reception staff were a bit hit and miss.

Room Tip: A better view from a room on a higher floor.

We visited this hotel for two weeks in July this year. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The entertainment was very good - we enjoyed dancing in the evenings, the duo were good and would play anything you wanted. We always managed to get sunbeds although when the hotel was full it was a bit of a scramble. We thought the idea of it being a 'cash free' hotel was a good idea with everything being charged to your room. The hotel itself was in a good position, being a short walk into the centre of Los Christianos along the promenade and overlooking the harbour. We would definitely think about going back to this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Our room was quite high up so we had a good view over the pools and harbour.

Stayed in this hotel 11th - 25th September, booked through Thomsons who rated this hotel "5T". This is not a 5 star hotel and Thomsons have let down their clients by rating it too highly, the Arona Gran is a good 4 star hotel, it is very clean and well kept but is overdue a complete revamp especially the bedrooms and corridors, we had a room on the 6th floor overlooking the pool with great views out to sea but the room was tired and in need of a makeover.

Reception staff were helpful & efficient as were the waiting staff in the dining room but the bar staff were too slow, it took ages to get a drink in the evenings.

No problem getting sun beds unless it was later in the day but be warned, the pool boy who deals with the towels is a law unto himself, if you do not change your towels before 5pm he won't change them even if he has plenty and its 2 minutes past 5, there is no flexibility at all on his part and he even tried to take me off to the managers office when I complained one day, for some one who has a great deal of contact with the customers he needs to change his attitude.

The food generally was very good, loads of fresh fruit and salad and a decent selection of main courses every night also the breakfasts were good with all tastes catered for.

The pools were clean and the outside areas were tidy and well kept. there is also a well equiped gym with showers and changing facilities which are handy to use if you have a late flight and can't keep your room on.

Entertainment was ok on some nights with different shows but aimed at an older clientelle. this is not a good place if you need to keep children occupied all the time.

This hotel has a money free policy so everything has to be booked to your room and paid for at the end of your stay, but you can get a statement of what you owe at anytime at reception. They do not like you bringing food and drink into the hotel but we did and we saw many other people doing the same. They were charging 1.70 euros for a small bottle of water in the hotel which was more than 4 times the price you could get it in the supermarket across the road.
The hotel is situated at the eastern end of the resort but it is not far to walk to bars shops and a decent beach and Playa de las Americas is about a 30 minute walk away, if you want a decent bar near to the hotel try the Big Ben Pub which sells San Miguel at 1 euro a pint, the place is full every night and a good place to eat out for a treat is the chillout bar and restaurant.

To recap, this is a good 4 star hotel, clean and tidy with good food and clean pool and well kept grounds, I would not recommend this hotel for people with children

Room Tip: Choose a high sea view room not a side sea view for good views across the bay, and booking direct wi...

been here previously ; pleasant efficient staff, although it seems there are less of them than previously resulting in hold service hold ups at the bar areas. food good, great idea of dinner in outside pool area restaurant, although it would be even better if the menu was not the same every time I would use it more if it was more varied especially on a two week stay.
Due to the dining room arrangement where people find themselves a table , it would be better if the staff could direct them to a prepared table, it would save the oldies getting lost and confused....

Room Tip: stick to ground floor.
