“Same mentality on Sol hotels”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

I wonder why Sol Hotels following the same no service mentality, quantity but no quality buffet, bad rooms! The owners/managers see no need to put Shampoo and soap in rooms, terrible air conditioning, non-sealed windows and etc.

However, they offer good price first but when you enter the hotels you can easily find out that you paid too much for such service! though you think why I didn't pay little bit more to go to the other ok.

Air condition is making a lot of noise so you rather not use it!

don't expect wireless internet except in the lobby at 4 euro/hr.

The locations are generally good.

However, it is not our choice to check in this group for the 3rd time.

Room Tip: It doesn't make any difference to get a superior or standard room. you don't get much when y...

I have been to this hotel 4 times, each time it has declined further and further, the food is not very good, the rooms and beds need desperate upgrading, they are still in the 70s when it was built, the beds are like sleeping on a brick wall. what they call superior rooms , I would expect the air cond, hair dryer in a standard room also most 3 star hotels I have been in also provide a fridge, you can hire all these things, at a high cost. The staff in reception are not very friendly, one man needs to retire, he never smiles, doesn't listen to your complaints, another little blond, very new, speaks to people like we are 2 yr olds,i know more about the hotel than she does, a very aggressive little madam. The best and the ones that make my holiday are the animation team .Run by Jordie and his team, they really put everything in to make your stay happy. That is the only reason I go back because I am on my own, they provide fantastic entertainment. Not for couples unless you are over 80yrs.

Room Tip: there are not any good rooms, unless you want to pay extra for air con and a hairdryer.

disapointed

My review of the Sol Princesa Dacil echo's the previous review "Think Twice"
arrived at this hotel entrance doors hinges dropped doors jammed on floor' reception manned by two trainee 18 year old girls who I believed were working to rule and were on a go slow
after 30 minutes we finally managed to obtain the keys to our room
very small room overlooking car park with half a very small balcony
3 coat hangers in wardrobe went to reception asked for some more coat hangers
reception reply how many do you want I replied at least 6 more, we may be able to let you have three more as we have a lot of guests arriving was the reply from reception
(Is This not a hotel was my reply )
the food was quality was very poor recycled from day to day dining area reminiscent of a works canteen bare tables no table cloths, food cooked in front of your eyes "or so the brochure said" which consisted of throwing a piece of pork or chicken on the hotplate charred on the outside pink in the middle, several cases of gastro- enteritis in the hotel while we were there oh and there was charred fish
entertainment I have seen better acts paid of in working mens clubs , bird show, a guise to have your photo taken with a bird for 8 euros
Bar staff ok and don't forget the all inclusive ends a 11 o clock
Decided to spend the day on the beach asked at reception for a packed meal as we had booked in all inclusive sorry we don't do packed meals! was the reply
This hotel should be downgraded to two stars
anybody seriously deciding to stay at this hotel and just want a place to sleep should book room only and eat and drink out
The last night a carnival was on loud music till 4 in the morning no sleep at all
if it was not for the sun the holiday would have been ruined
would I stay in this hotel again No No No
noticed some positive reviews about this hotel all I can think is that some people are very easily
pleased or their judgement has been clouded by drinking copious amounts of alcohol

Hotel in great location but everything else disappointing!!! Rooms need updating. We thought we had booked a superior room but turned out to be only a standard room. We had no fridge, hairdryer or air conditioning but was told we could upgrade for 20 euro's per day so we just put up with it. These are things that usually come as standart in previous 3 star hotels. The restaurant was more like a canteen and the food was average and poorly presented. Entertainment was rubbish, the live music was a man on an organ every night playing music for the elderly to dance to. If you like parrots and snakes you will love it. Reception staff very slow especially when checking in, they need more staff. Pickpockets were in the hotel during our stay and we had a couple of experiences when they were at work. Can you believe the cct security cameras were not switched on??Police were called when he was caught in the restaurant trying to steal someone's wallet, not sure how he got into the restaurant as you have to pass a lady on the door first who checks out if you have an all-inclusive wrist band on. Swimming pool freezing, get up early if you want a sunbed there is a queue at the door at 8am. If you want a cushion for your sunbed it is 1 euro 50 each per day!
On a good note, the weather was fabulous and made up for our disappointment of the hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get high floor to avoid all the noise. Try and get a sunbed with a blue cover, much more co...

In Short:
We have stayed in much better holiday accommodation at a much lower cost.
If you are going to the Sol Princesa Dacil in Los Cristianos then lower your expectations and expect to pay extra for things that come as standard in many hotels and you might be content.
The location is good – Los Cristianos is good – the weather was excellent and I think that covers the plus points!
The reception staff were average – sleep quality poor – food average (we only ate breakfast at this hotel and when our flight home was cancelled and we were brought back to this hotel and given a free evening meal we had a look at what was on offer in the canteen then left the hotel and paid for our own meal in a local restaurant).
This hotel has no sound insulation – charges extra for things I would class as basics provided by most hotels – it has 1 canteen and no restaurants – the building needs a refurbishment and gave poor value for money. It has a 3 star rating - I think it aspires to be a three star hotel and with a bit of tidying up and a change in the penny pinching management practices it might make the three star rating but at present it falls short.

Longer version: -
We stayed at the Sol Princesa Dacil 09.03.13 to 23.03.13 in a `Superior’ room.
The room was spacious and clean but could do with the mould and mildew in the grout and bathroom sealant dealing with. The beds were too firm for our liking as were the pillows.
We had gone away for some winter sun and peace and quiet. Our room was north facing and unbeknown to us it was carnival weekend. The single glazed, aluminium patio door offered no sound insulation at all meaning road noise was very evident for the whole two weeks. (We were on the 13th floor and had hoped it would have been quieter)
For the first three nights the noise from the carnival was EXTREME and at 04:30hrs on Sunday morning (10.03.13) with the carnival still in full swing I went to the reception to ask when it might end. The receptionist said she had no information (which seemed to be a common response whenever one asked a question of them) I asked if we could have a room on the other side of the hotel as it was impossible to sleep with the noise making the room unfit for purpose. She said the hotel was full and she couldn’t help us. We asked again later in the day about a room change to the south side and got the same response. No help at all, and yet people were checking in and out daily so if there had been a will to help I am sure they could have accommodated us.

The carnival was very noisy until between 00:30 – 01:00hrs on Sunday and Monday meaning our room was not suitable for a quiet holiday for the first three days and the hotel reception staff were quite dismissive.

The room they class as superior is a spacious room but minus the usual basics, such as kettle, fridge etc. We did ask about these things and we were told we could hire a kettle for €25 plus a deposit. We could have a fridge for €60 plus a deposit and we had to pay a €5 deposit for a remote control for the TV.

Wi fi is available free of charge in many cafés and bars locally but is only available in the reception area at the hotel and at a cost - €4 for an hour – €10 or €11 for 24 hours or €30 for a week.
We had booked our stay on a B & B basis as we like to eat out and see something of locality where we are staying rather than be tied to a hotel on an All Inclusive deal. I did notice at the bar/food shack in the pool area that out of the 11 cocktails listed in the menu only two were free to the A/I inclusive customers. All cocktails were charged to anyone else at €5.60 and 9 of the eleven were charged at €2.40 to the A/I customers. Cocktails could be bought in local bars and cafés for about €2.50 to €3

23.03.13 our flight home was cancelled and we had to return to this hotel. We were given a standard room on the 2nd floor and again it had no sound insulation so we had the noise from the cabaret banging on until the early hours - again not much sleep.
This room was VERY small and had no redeeming features at all. It did have mirrors on three walls to try to make it look larger.
The wall light next to the bed was hanging off but still worked and I wondered if it was safe as it was brass and live!

We found the usual mildew in the bathroom and a couple of cracked floor tiles in bathroom giving more support to my comment that this tired old hotel really does need sorting out.

We will not be returning to this hotel again as it falls well short of what we expect on many levels.

Stayed 19th - 26th March. Check in - Be prepared to wait a long time. Not fault of staff, obviously a silly system operated by hotel. Hotel room - on 7th floor we had a separate little sitting area. loads of storage space.good sized bathroom and great shower. Kept spotlessly clean with towels changed daily and bed linen once during the week. Beds so hard - not comfortable but a peaceful quiet area. No tea/coffee making facilities or hair dryer. Bring travel kettle.Lovely views over pool and sea. No fridge but we hired one for 39 euros for week. worth it to have somewhere to keep bottled water and milk if you, like me, enjoy cup of tea/coffee middle of day/afternoon and after evening meal, otherwise you will have to buy each time. We enjoyed the food - we were half board - great choice for breakfast and dinner - lovely salads, hot food. Get your drinks, sauces etc first before collecting hot food otherwise it will be cold before you get to your table. Tip for breakfast - put your bread under grill THEN collect what you want to eat and by that time your toast should be ready. ADVICE - please keep a close eye on handbag/hand luggage when setting it on pavement to get rest of luggage on to or off bus. There are opportunists hanging around..We had a great week and if we were ever going back to Los Cristianos would have no hesitation in using this hotel.

Room Tip: higher floors good views. choose pool side
