“25th Wedding Anniversary - bliss!!!!!”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

From the moment we walked in to reception and was greeted with a glass or two of Cava really set the tone for the week. Reception staff couldn't do more to make you feel welcome. Reception area clean, chic and comfortable. Was given room on 6th floor facing the sea and overlooking the harbour, as previously requested, great position, facing the sun all day. Surprise bottle of bubbly on ice made our day too, thanks Big Sur. Room was spotless, maid did a great job every day, sheets changed twice during the week. Requested two extra pillows and were brought up within 10 minutes. Great coffee machine & minibar (reasonably priced) although the safe to hire was a bit pricey. Aircon great. Plenty of toiletries, towels, dressing gowns and slippers. Room well furnished and nice decor. Plenty hot water and great shower over the bath. Free WiFi was a bit slow at times, but skyped the kids for an hour no problem. Two poolside towels in the room, and could be changed daily at the poolside.
We stayed 1/2 board, great breakfast, plenty for everyone, huge choice, and catered for many nationality tastes, and they had a chef cooking british style bacon, frying eggs and making omelettes in front of you as you waited. Friendly waiters cleared the tables and relaid very quickly, never had to wait for a table, even though it was quite busy at 8am.
Dinner service - hotel requested smart clothes worn, which was generally observed. Great wine list, reasonably priced. Huge selection of food which was varied each night. At least 3 different meat dishes, 2 soups, selection of pastas and sauces, lots of salad choices. Loved the showcook section, chef cooking 3 types of fish, chicken, pork & lamb chops exactly to your taste in front of you. Dessert section, again great choices, always being replenished. And then onto the cheeseboard, 3 cheeses always available, loved the type of blue cheese, plentiful biscuits and fresh fruit made it a 6 course meal each night for us. The only fault I found with the whole eating experience was the bitty bones in the oxtail dish, which spoilt it. I pretty well tried everything on offer.
Poolside - although rules stated no towels on beds before 9.30, this was often ignored by the minority, which hindered the cleaners. The minority was not just our usual Germans, but fellow brits, however, because the sun moved round quickly most beds were affected by shade at some time during the day. Was like musical beds from early afternoon. Not sure if there would be enough room at peak summer though. Great heated pool and spa. Daily activities offered but was not taken up much. Loved the clothes show - great model - lads, you'll know what I mean!
Bar staff both during the day and evening were super, good banter - particularly Eva, nothing was too much trouble. Branded spirits pricey, but generally the local stuff was fairly reasonable as not on measure. Beer same price as uk.
Evening entertainment provided each night- mostly good- some needed to play to the audience better to keep people interested, a few packs of cards came out during the shows! Chairs & tables in the bar area were a bit uncomfortable for an evening out, and also a bit chilly near the sides due to open roller blinds.
Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations. First time holiday without our kids and it was great around the pool without any too! Good mix of nationalities, met some nice people from all over. Great location near the far end of Los Cristianos, but was within 2 minutes walk of shops, bars and restaurants. Will be back.

Room Tip: Definitely worth booking a high floor, sea view room!

We left La Palma at 5.30 a.m. with Fred Olsen ferry, and arrived at H10 Big Sur at 9 a.m. We felt us a little bit tired and shaky after a rather tough voyage. The reception was very special-with many suitcases in different colours and sizes, and also the floor was funny with different pattern on the tiles. We had pre-booked a room with sea view, but because of much rain on Sunday, our room wasn't ready. Fortunately for us, Jesùs was in the reception and he was very sorry telling us about the problems the rain had given them. However, he saw what we needed, og sent us for a breakfast before the check-in prosess continued. After a very good meal, we got a temporary room for the next night, and Jesùs promised us a nice room next day at 12 a.m. As promised, next day we got a fantastic room with beautiful view of the swimmingpool and the harbour. He also offered us a good compensation for "the lost day" we got. His attitude to the customer and also his thinking of finding the best solutions, is unique. He is a very good man for H10 Big Sur. We had a very nice stay at the hotel, and will send a very big "THANK YOU" to everybody of the staff. All meals was good and varied with many possibilities for making your own specialty. In our room- we daily could make our coffee and sit on the balcony and see the sunrise. Finally, we hope the safety-guard in the pool still will take care of the cats.

just back from H10 big 24th November after a 2week stay, this is a good 3star hotel, with a fair bit to go to reach 4stars , yes the reception area has been refurbished and looks the part, rooms have had a lick of paint and are clean to a point, on arrival we were given a room on level 3 which was ok but we did prepaid for sea view but were given tree view above the entertainment room, we stayed there for two nights and asked to be moved, no one staying for two weeks should be put above entertainment room [ u get no sleep] after 5 nights with not much sleep we moved to level 6 were we got what we payed for [hoora] .both rooms were clean, but we had to clean out both fridges, bathroom can get very slippery and quite dangerous both baths very slim and shower heads in both rooms needed replaced .food was predictable but edible ,however you can only have tea at breakfast and no other time unless you pay this is so you pay for wine or water for dinner running up a hefty bill on deparcher ,entertainment was 2star gout bar to expensive [another bill] best to find your entertainment elsewhere plenty to choose from and prices respectable, this hospital sorry this hotel is very much over priced and not for couples under 50ish more lick emergency word H10 big sur

Room Tip: if staying longer than 1week any room away from the entertainment room or sea view above the pool

I had stayed in a few places in Tenerife and I didn't think I would ever see any hotels there that I would describe as classy or upmarket. But when I walked into Big Sur, that changed and I was blown away! The reception had chic interior design with lots of white chairs and a marble floor. Everyone is given complimentary champagne upon arrival! I had my own double bed in my own bedroom, my parents had their own bedroom, then we had a shared living room with a minifridge and fully functioning tv. Our balcony was like half of the top of the entire building with sunbeds and an umbrella - far bigger than the little two-chair overhangs I had been accustomed to. We could look at an unspoilt view of the beach and sea port or turn around and on a clear day, we could see the top of the volcanic mountain. My favourite thing was when the maid brought us each a little chocolate every night (they were the best chocolates I had ever had in Spain). The pool and jacuzzi area was clean not noisy or busy; there were plenty of luxurious sun loungers and it seemed like a world away from the 7am-fight-for-a-sunbed routine. One day there was even a fashion show featuring just the one woman but I thought that was a nice and unique thing that you could not get at other hotels. I bought a top from her and I wouldn't have been able to get it from the shops in Tenerife. I could always find something to my taste at breakfast and dinner time on the buffet (there was also a part where chefs cooked certain things to order included for free). My favourite foods there were the fried bread and churros at breakfast, then the quail and desserts at dinner time.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor are best for the view from the balcony!

Hotel is fab lovely rooms and the décor is lovely very modern. Food was very good and location was good. Dreamers bar down the promenade was great with the fabulous Angela singing everything you could throw at her and brilliantly. This hotel is adults only which is great for a real break. we also hired out bicycles and we could cycle the promenade up to Adeje. Will definitely go back next year well done to the management for a lovely holiday.
