“Fine hotel however...”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We arrived early and were welcomed by a nice staff. We were invited to have breakfast which was great since we missed breakfast at their sister hotel in La Palma due to taking the early ferry to Tenerife. We happily went to the pool after. When our room was ready, we checked in and liked it very much. It was smaller than the H10 room in La Palma but was decorated nicely. It was very hot in the room. We closed the curtains and turned on the air conditioner. We went back to the pool until later that day. We went back to the room and it was very hot. The air conditioner did not work. We were so disappointed, coming from H10 in La Palma. The air conditioner there worked better, but neither as would in the U.S. or Caribbean. We went to the front desk and we were greeted by Mr. Jesus Quintero and Pierre. We explained that we were really disappointed that it was so warm in the room, that we had taken the steps to keep the room cool by not opening the sliding door to the balcony, and closing the curtains etc. They were very very nice to us. They could see how hot we felt. Without hesitation, Mr. Quintero looked for another room, we hoped for one on a lower floor since our room was on the 7th floor.
We were faced with moving our things, and were tired since we checked out of H10 in La Palma at 2:00 am for the 4:00 am ferry. I really just wanted to nap before dinner. Mr.Quintero I guess you could say "felt our pain". He came out from behind the reception desk and offered to show us another room. We were really happy he took the initiative. We went to another room 3 floors down on the ocean side of the building. We walked in and felt a big difference in room temperature. It also was a nice room with a view of the sea. Thank heavens!!! We were staying there for 8 days! We flew from the states and it was a long trip! The tripadvisor reviews were so good for this hotel, I really did not want this vacation not to be nice. Thanks Mr. Quintero for your attention to this matter. Pierre thank also for listening to our situation.
The great parts about this hotel are very clean, excellent chefs with excellent personalities and skills, excellent servers, like Andres and Victor, excellent lifeguard, this man can't do enough for you, he makes sure you have an umbrella and actually moves it over for you, and he is very friendly every day. The room attendant was great, every day she made up the room perfectly.
The décor and location is perfect, not far from a real busy area, actually too much for us.

The bad is the bartending staff, except for David and and a very nice young lady. The bartenders treated us badly. This boutique hotel has no ice bucket, no ice machine so one must go to he bar for ice. Would you believe that the bartenders told us that the ice for the guests? Twice!
Here we are staying for 8 days and these guys did not want to give us ice. One bartender actually put ice the ice in two plastic cups and walked it through the to a service window and told us to go pick it up there. We had to walk through the lobby doors to get it. The evening before this, I went to get ice, the bartender held up the silver piggy bank and said "You want ice, how about a tip, 5 euros, no make it 10 euros" and everyone at the bar started laughing. I had enough. I spoke with the reception manager who told me that a lot of people were asking for ice. Guess what? It is inexcusable to be spoken to like that from a bartender. End of story.

Also get an ice machine or order ice from your restaurant supplier or go to the store if you don't have it.

Furthermore, we are allowed to receive ice in the states, for nothing, without tipping. I will even take it a step further, we had no problem getting ice at H10 Taburiete in La Palma days before, and no problem getting ice a few days later when we arrived at Puerto De La Cruz, at H10 Tenerife Playa. I also don't have problems at other hotels such as Hilton, Marriott internationally.

As I said, the air conditioning is weak at this hotel, it is hot outside and not so cool inside. We would have bought our own ice, but there is no place to keep it. I contacted the hotel about this and waited, no reply so hence my review. Many bartenders have a real attitude here except for the ones above.

Room Tip: A/C not cold as in the U.S.

Dear guests,
Thank you for your review! I am so sorry that you were not satisfied with the air conditioning in the first room; I can assure you that we have addressed this problems with our maintenance and housekeeping team. It is important that each of our guests is able to relax and be themselves while travelling.

I am a bit surprised about your comments about the ice makers but in the European hotels usually you will not find ice machines or vending machines on the corridors, instead, most of them as we do, do offer a daily filled up Minibar and a Room Service, where you can order drinks and ice till 23.00 hours night time. Nevertheless, we thank you for your patience with the Bar Waiters and would like to ask for your apologize for the behaviour.
We sincerely hope that you finally were able to relax and to enjoy your holiday, in spite of the mentioned incidents.
If you are ever again in Tenerife we would love to welcome you back to show you how we have improved!
Kind Regards,
Gabi Wessels

although the hotel was clean and staff were friendly we found as english guests the hotel was full of german guests who dominated the hotel also food was not up to standard also we were pickpocketed outside the hotel at night as this is quite prevalent in the area and spoilt our holiday

Room Tip: get a sea view as other rooms overlooking car park noisy

We want to express how sorry we are to hear that we could not fulfill all your expectations regarding our food offer and I'm deeply sorry for any inconveniences you have experienced with the theft outside the hotel facilities, unfortunately not hotel competition and repeatedly denounced to the local police station.

I can’t say enough good things about this fantastic hotel!! (We stayed 31/08/13 to 06/09/13).
My girlfriend and I were moved to this hotel after we complained to our Thomas Cook rep about the poor standard of our original hotel (The Vulcano) in Playa De Las Americas. What a great swap!! The H10 big sur is amazing!!
When we were offered this hotel for our move, we popped down in a taxi to look at the hotel and were met by a gentleman from reception called Jesus. He was brilliant with us, and took the time to show us around the hotel including the bedrooms. We loved it and checked in 2 hours later.
The hotel is modern, classy, clean and has a touch of luxury. Our bedroom was on the 3rd floor (Room 311), with a pool/sea view and it was lovely. The rooms are very modern and well appointed. The staff work very hard, are friendly and really look after you. We were on Half Board and the food was very good. The drinks are priced pretty well for a 4 star hotel (£3.00 for a pint). You don’t pay cash in this hotel, you sign for your drinks etc, and then are given a receipt. You settle your bill when you check out. We found this a good idea, and each time we had drinks in the hotel, we put what we had spent to one side, so we did not end up with a big bill at the end of the holiday! The pool area is great and the sunbeds are plentiful. The hotel has an amazing area called the ‘Chill out zone’. This is located on the top floor of the hotel (floor 8) and is an outside area, with big comfy sunbeds, loungers, and beds. This area is glass fronted so you can see straight out to sea! We spent most of our lazy days up here. Very relaxing! The hotel is kept immaculately clean, as are the bedrooms. We had a brilliant holiday at the H10 big sur and can’t wait to return!! Thank you to all the staff, keep up the good work!! See you all soon!

Room Tip: Spend that little bit extra for a pool/sea view. You will love it. All the rooms are fantastic, but...

Stayed at this hotel for 10 nights in July. What a great hotel, greeted by friendly staff on arrival with a glass of cava. Im struggling to find any faults with this hotel. Food was lovely, especially the breakfast and the show cooking was awesome! Lovely modern room with spectacular sea view. Great location, just a 5 minute walk away from bars and shops. I will be returning to this hotel very soon!

Last November ( 2012 ) we stayed at this hotel and we could honestly not find fault with any of the staff, food, rooms or anything. as my husband is disabled it is hard to find somewhere that is suitable for both our needs , and this hotel ticked all the boxes, so we came home and booked it for this year for 2 week in November, but unfortunatly we have been let down as even though we had booked a year in advance there are no rooms avalible for our dates. after the year we both have had , we were so looking forward to a good break, maybe next year.

Dear guests,
Thank you very much for choosing the H10 Big Sur Boutique Hotel and for sharing your experience, we are very pleased to know that you have spent an enjoyable holiday between us.
All H10 Big Sur Team-members work every day to improve the quality and warmth of our services and your comments encourage us to continue going on this way. We are especially sorry that it was not possible for you to book a return visit for November, we don´t know what happened and can only advise to book as soon as possible, the rooms for handicapped people are in great demand and the hotel disposes of only 2 of them.
Thanking you for your time, it would be a pleasure to welcoming you again in our hotel in the not too far future.
Thanks and best regards.

Simply wonderful. Rooms are very clean, modern with large TV,beds and linen of good quality, not one bad nights sleep.
Food choice is excellent. For breakfast so much choice from fresh eggs and English bacon, pancakes, toasties cooked by the chef in front of you. Huge selection of fresh breads and pastries, fruits, cheeses even help yourself to sparking wine...choices of hot drinks excellent and quality to match. The restaurant does not disappoint for evening meals also with the chef cooking meats, fish, stir fries and other dishes to your liking as well as all the other self service dishes.
The pool area is lovely ,we never had a problem with getting a sun beds. They do not allow people to reserve with towels( some try to get round this). The pool is lovely for taking a dip in..which we did every day. If your not into pools try the roof chill out area...again quiet, fantastic views and the best selection of sun beds I have ever seen!
At night there is always something entertaining put on.However if your looking for loud pumping music then a stroll down the beach walkway will take you bars etc...this hotel does not.
We had a hire car and parking was never a problem in the hotels free car park.
Overall can highly recommend this hotel for couples who want to relax, away from the strains of life.
Can't wait to return.

We stayed here for a week for our anniversary been back two weeks.
The hotel was very modern and stylish throughout, our room was lovely very clean and funky one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in.
The food was very good with a large choice especially nice to have your choice of food cooked fresh in front of you!
The pool was nice, quiet and peaceful, we didn't have a problem getting a sunbed but this was normaly late afternoon. I especially liked seeing the cats around the pool.
All the staff were friendly and very helpful.
Great location near lots of shops, bars and restaurants. I would recommend you book at Oliver's with a twist we ate there on our anniversary, small restaurant excellent food and lovely staff! You have to book online as it gets very busy.
We were out most of the day and evening so I can't comment on any entertainment.
Overall a fantastic hotel and I would definitely go back when visiting Los cristianos.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view room.
