We arrived early and were welcomed by a nice staff. We were invited to have breakfast which was great since we missed breakfast at their sister hotel in La Palma due to taking the early ferry to Tenerife. We happily went to the pool after. When our room was ready, we checked in and liked it very much. It was smaller than the H10 room in La Palma but was decorated nicely. It was very hot in the room. We closed the curtains and turned on the air conditioner. We went back to the pool until later that day. We went back to the room and it was very hot. The air conditioner did not work. We were so disappointed, coming from H10 in La Palma. The air conditioner there worked better, but neither as would in the U.S. or Caribbean. We went to the front desk and we were greeted by Mr. Jesus Quintero and Pierre. We explained that we were really disappointed that it was so warm in the room, that we had taken the steps to keep the room cool by not opening the sliding door to the balcony, and closing the curtains etc. They were very very nice to us. They could see how hot we felt. Without hesitation, Mr. Quintero looked for another room, we hoped for one on a lower floor since our room was on the 7th floor.
We were faced with moving our things, and were tired since we checked out of H10 in La Palma at 2:00 am for the 4:00 am ferry. I really just wanted to nap before dinner. Mr.Quintero I guess you could say "felt our pain". He came out from behind the reception desk and offered to show us another room. We were really happy he took the initiative. We went to another room 3 floors down on the ocean side of the building. We walked in and felt a big difference in room temperature. It also was a nice room with a view of the sea. Thank heavens!!! We were staying there for 8 days! We flew from the states and it was a long trip! The tripadvisor reviews were so good for this hotel, I really did not want this vacation not to be nice. Thanks Mr. Quintero for your attention to this matter. Pierre thank also for listening to our situation.
The great parts about this hotel are very clean, excellent chefs with excellent personalities and skills, excellent servers, like Andres and Victor, excellent lifeguard, this man can't do enough for you, he makes sure you have an umbrella and actually moves it over for you, and he is very friendly every day. The room attendant was great, every day she made up the room perfectly.
The décor and location is perfect, not far from a real busy area, actually too much for us.
The bad is the bartending staff, except for David and and a very nice young lady. The bartenders treated us badly. This boutique hotel has no ice bucket, no ice machine so one must go to he bar for ice. Would you believe that the bartenders told us that the ice for the guests? Twice!
Here we are staying for 8 days and these guys did not want to give us ice. One bartender actually put ice the ice in two plastic cups and walked it through the to a service window and told us to go pick it up there. We had to walk through the lobby doors to get it. The evening before this, I went to get ice, the bartender held up the silver piggy bank and said "You want ice, how about a tip, 5 euros, no make it 10 euros" and everyone at the bar started laughing. I had enough. I spoke with the reception manager who told me that a lot of people were asking for ice. Guess what? It is inexcusable to be spoken to like that from a bartender. End of story.
Also get an ice machine or order ice from your restaurant supplier or go to the store if you don't have it.
Furthermore, we are allowed to receive ice in the states, for nothing, without tipping. I will even take it a step further, we had no problem getting ice at H10 Taburiete in La Palma days before, and no problem getting ice a few days later when we arrived at Puerto De La Cruz, at H10 Tenerife Playa. I also don't have problems at other hotels such as Hilton, Marriott internationally.
As I said, the air conditioning is weak at this hotel, it is hot outside and not so cool inside. We would have bought our own ice, but there is no place to keep it. I contacted the hotel about this and waited, no reply so hence my review. Many bartenders have a real attitude here except for the ones above.
