“VERY GOOD”
Reviewed November 22, 2011

What a pleasure our visit was to this restaurant, Very good food, staff attentive, and the owners "excellant " they take time to chat and make your visit personal. Fresh veg served which is a god send at the end of a week after eating other local food. Prices very good, with deserts you can die for. All cooked by an English/British chef. Try it your like it, dont miss it. Well done the Ivy.

“Excellent food, friendly hosts, reasonable prices.”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

When you call yourself "The Ivy", you have a lot to live up to. Having visited twice last week, in my opinon, this restaurant sets an excellent standard with a wide variety of locally sourced home-cooked delights to tempt even the most demanding of customers. Price range is about €4-7 for a starter, €10-14 for main course, and €5 for dessert. This is only moderately more than vastly inferior restaurants that line the promenade but is much less than you would normally expect to pay for this level of food quality. If you want a "wow" meal, this is the place to go. Please note it opens only in the evenings from 6.30pm.

On visiting, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and staff who made us feel at ease and were especially accommodating in seeing that our hungry two year old was entertained and served first. The restaurant is set in a square and tables can be taken outside or inside. Candles on the table and general lay out support a nice romantic ambience although it is equally good for families since a children's menu is offered. It was clear from the rapidly filling tables around us that this was a restaurant catering for a stream of repeat customers lucky enough to have discovered this gem situated near the town centre but away from the passing throngs of people.

It is a challenge to know what to select to eat since the menu is extensive and provides a host of tempting options. For starters, we can recommend the calamari or the salmon rolls, which were freshly prepared and full of flavour. Daily specials include home-made soups and we can offer very good feedback on the tomato soup. We did not get a chance to try the brie, potato, and bacon soup or the goats cheese from lanzarote but will be sure to drop by to taste next time.

Main courses covered all the bases with a range of steaks, fish dishes, and home made pies catching the eye. The pies, topped by light puff pastry, were generously filled with chunks of steak or chicken or seafood. I took the fisherman's pie, which was filled with salmon, cod, and prawn in a delicious creamy sauce. Highly recommended. My wife tried the lamb modena, which was tender and tasty, and chose rice and salad to go with this. I tried the horseradish mash, which had a subtle, peppery taste but was more exciting than standard mash. We also tried the scampi and chips, which were cooked perfectly and very tasty.

Desserts were traditional favourites and we single out the whiskey bread and butter pudding for special praise. Should you be feeling too full to indulge, the blackberry creme brulee is the perfect light option to end the meal. I've never seen this type of brulee before but can safely say that it is the best brulee that I've tasted. The caramel glaze was complemented by the flavour of the blackberries at the bottom providing a superb contrast to the traditional brulee at the top and adding a great depth of flavour.

The restaurant has been there since 2000 and we I certainly hope that it will remain there for many years to come. Will definitely be making it a regular stop-off when I visit.

“Sorted out the pavement!!”
Reviewed October 22, 2011

Visited the Ivy last Thursday and pleased to see the local council have paved the outside to a reasonable standard so you can sit there without wobbling.about. Dave is in fine form and the food was even better than before. Excellent fillet steak, my best of the week and the smoked salmon rolls and prawns are to die for!! Keep up the good work!!

“Fab food - great atmosphere”
Reviewed October 22, 2011

We have visited the Ivy on many occasions over the last 10 years and will say that we have always enjoyed our meals. It continues to be one of the best restaurants in Los Christianos catering for all budgets.
Dave, June and the rest of the team make us feel welcome - as though we are old friends.
Unfortunately this year the council have decided to re pave the square outside the restaurant but please don't let this put you off as the food and atmosphere have not changed and The Ivy is definately worth a visit.
