“Fantastic accommodation, fantastic owners, such a great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

We stayed at Villa Nireas for two weeks and enjoyed it immensely. We were picked up from the airport an whisked along to the apartment, about 10 minutes away, by Alexander (the owner).

The apartment was perfect, very clean with everything you would expect in terms of bedding, towels, utensils, etc. It was cleaned daily to a very high standard.

The owners left us to our own devices but we're always on hand for a chat or some advice if we needed it; a nice balance!

I am embarrassed to say we didn't get Alexander's wife's name but she was lovely. She sat and talked with us and was wonderfully friendly - and she give us some local pastry treats that were lovely.

The only negative, as mentioned in other reviews, was the steep walk up to the apartments which could be quite slippery in flip-flops. Don't let this put you off though, it was a small inconvenience in an otherwise superb experience.

If we were to go back to this lovely little island we wouldn't think twice about where to stay, great value, great service, great people, perfect!

.... this place was a true find and loved every minute of our trip here. Given some of the reviews are not so recent we were a little concerned that they may not still be as good... but this place rocks and wanted to add our big thumbs up to the already outstanding reviews! :)

The views were fantastic; the rooms clean, and the service spectacular. The hotel is located close to the ports, but not on them. Instead, it's located overlooking a secondary port used by a few large yachts with a terrific beach and many great restaurants. This turns out to be a great plus. It is a family owned place, and the service is magnificent.

I can't rave enough about Villa Nireas.

When we booked last summer (2010), there were only two other reviews and we were not sure what to expect. We were amazed.

At around 100 euro per night, it's not exactly cheap. But then, we are talking about Mykonos!! I think the value for money was absolutely fantastic. We spent a week here in Platys Gialos and then a week in Mykonos Town. In town, we paid slightly more to stay at the Fresh Hotel, which completely paled in comparison.

Villa Nireas is owned by a family. Nikos, the cousin, will pick you up from the airport and tell you all about the area. He was amazing and such a lovely guy. We realised we'd forgotten our iPod charger and he went to the trouble to go and pick one up for us from the only store in town that sells them. His cousin... whose name I forget, but was lovely also, lives downstairs. She speaks pretty good English and will bring you clean towels etc.

Even though the Villa is family-owned, it is not at all intrusive. You are left to get on with your business and may see them once a day. When they do see you, they are as friendly as you want them to be!

We stayed in a little duplex with a kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. There was a terrace AND an upstairs balcony!

It honestly was the most magical, enchanting place. It was absolutely beautiful.

The rooms are amazingly modern, especially for Greek standards. Whilst we were without our iPod charger, Nikos very kindly came and helped us to remember how to work the Sky TV. We listened to a LOT of MTV Greece until our charger arrived, so this was a lifesaver!

The Villa is about 5 min walk from Platys Gialos beach - very easy to get to, with a few different paths you could take.

The only word of warning is that although the roads are fine, the driveway up to Nireas is VERY steep. I'm in my twenties and pretty fit, but still struggled not to slip... so perhaps not a good option for anyone with mobility problems.

A few other hints (because it took us a while to work this out... things aren't signposted on Mykonos!):
> The bus (in 2010) cost about 1.20euro. All the tickets, regardless of your destination, are the same. You just go into a shop and buy as many as you like. They are each one way tickets.

> From memory, the bus ran quite late - around 2am. I think there were 2 per hour. There is a chalkboard timetable near Platys Gialos beach, where the busses stop.

> If you want to cook any meals, the further you go from Platys Gialos towards Mykonos Town, the better the supermarket. We didn't realise this and spent all week making salads! Stay on the bus until you are almost in town - ask the driver to stop at the biggest supermarket!

Another thing to mention is that Platys Gialos is not at all bustling. There are a few restaurants on the beach and one very quiet hotel bar. There is definitely no dancing! If you want to party after 2am, you'll have to find a cab (very difficult) or stay in town!

One final point is that it costs about 12euro for two sun loungers and an umbrella on Platys Gialos beach. This is standard for Mykonos. The cheapest place we saw was Paradise Beach, and that was about 8 euro. There is really no space to lay your own towel - so... factor this into your holiday cost! We spend a lot of time listening to music, drinking and sunbathing at Villa Nireas on our terrace and balcony instead... which I much preffered!

I would highly, highly, highly recommend Villa Nireas to anyone!! Beautiful!!!

We visited Mykonos for the first time from 17th to 24th September 2010. It is a beautiful place overall and Villa Nireas is just lovely. The accomodation is in a block with 2 1 bedroomed maisonettes (we stayed in the ground floor one) and 2 two bedroomed apartments. They are all fitted out to a very high standard, are spotlessly clean and cleaned every day including fresh towels. There are complimentary toiletries including soap and a sewing kit, there is satellite tv and internet connection. There is also a hairdryer. The kitchen is fully fitted with the usual appliances including toaster, kettle, juicer, microwave and plenty of pans etc. The accommodation is family owned and one of the family will collect you from the airport which is only 10 minutes away and the lady who does the cleaning is a family member and actually lives very close by which was very fortunate for us one night when we accidentally locked the keys in the apartment!

Tips:
You might want to consider taking some basic supplies with you such as teabags and dried milk just for the first day particularly if arriving late at night as there isn't a welcome pack provided, only some bottled water when you arrive, although whoever collects you from the airport will be quite happy to stop at a supermarket on the way if you prefer.

The beach is only a ten minute stroll away and there is a supermarket right on the beach that stays open until midnight - quite expensive though. The only other minimarket accessible if you haven't got a car as we didn't is by the bus stop under one of the hotels. There isn't a great deal of choice in either of them, but ok for basics.

The nearest town is Mykonos town, about ten - fifteen minutes by bus with lovely narrow alleyways full of shops, restaurants and bars. Bus from the village is every half hour and runs until about 1am. Purchase ticket from the beach supermarket.

Villa Nireas as I say is only a 10 min stroll from the beach and all the restaurants, which are also all along the beach and all of them belong to the hotels, but the villa itself is at the top of a very very steep bank which is unsuitable for elderly travelers or anyone with any mobility problems, unless you have some form of transport and can be driven up and down the last steep bit of the road as there is parking right by the Villa.

Beach is just lovely with a very gently sloping shelf into the sea. The whole of the beach seems to be split between the hotels along the beach and all of them charge between 8 and 10 Euros per day for an umbrella and two beds - there isn't really anywhere else to go so it's an expense you may have to live with. Some of the restaurants will give you a ticket for free sunbeds the next day if you eat there the night before and they are all very good and all charge around the same for food.

All in all, this a is a lovely location, lovely beach, lovely people, good restaurants. Ideal if you don't want noise, hustle and bustle and very relaxing.

We recently stayed at Villa Nireas for four days and am pleased to say that our expectations were greatly surpassed. Villa Nireas' architecture of white washed walls and curved angles reflects the soul and spirit of Greece that one often only sees in travel magazines and postcards -making it the ideal setting for a memorable vacation in Greece. Coupled with clean, comfortable and stylish accommodations, it is difficult not to fall in love with the place.
The apartments are inviting, clean and tastefully decorated. Each apartment is identified and decorated with a different colour scheme. We stayed in the orange two bedroom apartment and were amazed at how well equipped and spacious it was. The apartment included a fully stocked kitchen with fridge, stove, glasses, pots and pans; two separate closed bedrooms, two washrooms, two balconies with a view of the beach as well as a brand new flat screen television in the living room. We were extremely impressed with the decor which consisted of a marriage between traditional Mykonian and the finesse of an cosmopolitan boutique hotel. And, as icing on the cake, the views from the balcony are absolutely amazing. Whether it be early morning or sunset, Villa Nireas offers its clients an incredible sea view which beckons to be indulged over a good glass of wine.
The owner is also readily available and a valuable resource of information regarding what to see and do in Mykonos. He personally picked us up from the airport at 6am and even arrived early to ensure that we would not have to wait. Greeting us with a big smile, despite it being so early in the morning for North American standards and so late at night for Mykonos, he proceeded to drive us to Villa Nireas while simultaneously explaining the main sights and important points of interest on the island such as the markets, bus stops, taxi stands, etc. He took great care of us during our stay and we greatly appreciated having such a knowledgeable local to talk to.
Although there is no swimming pool, the beach is located just a short stroll away from Platys Gialos beach which also happens to be the more family friendly beach in Mykonos. A boat-taxi service is also offered directly from the beach which runs about every hour or so to the other more vivacious beaches such as Paradise and Super Paradise Beach. There are also other tour operators offering a variety of daily boat tours as well as the rental of water sport equipment such as wave runners directly on the beach. In addition, the beach is also lined with a selection of seafood restaurants, souvenir shops as well as a mini market for those wishing to cook at home.
In order to get to town, there is a local bus which runs one street away from the hotel. It is only a short bus ride of approximately five to ten minutes to the main center where the majority of the nightlife is concentrated. However, if you prefer to see the island on your own, I would recommend renting either a scooter or an ATV (as many do) in order to move around at your leisure. Taxi service also exists. The fare is approximately 7euros from Villa Nireas to town.

In conclusion, Villa Nireas completely exceeded our expectations. We fell in love with the place, the people and the country. I would therefore not hesitate to recommend this place to others. We will surely stay there again without hesitation, and although we just returned, we are already planning our trip for next year. Thank You Villa Nireas for making our trip to Greece so memorable!
