Description: The Estate is in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. It is only 200 meters from the tunnel portal of the main walking/cycle trail and has its own access from there. It could not be easier. The Karangahake end of the Gorge offers fantastic tracks, many of them loops of differing lengths. There is a huge amount of history and scenic attraction in the area and the winery and restaurant are a well-deserved treat. Karyn, the chef, prepares wonderful gourmet food, which complements Horst's lovely range of wines. The summer garden setting is relaxed and peaceful and a wonderful interlude between walking or biking. In winter there is an open fire. Platters, full or light meals are available

This restaurant was recommended by out accommodation management. We had an excellent meal (the pot pie) and the kids had the adult pancakes which were also excellent. The venue had a nice laid back vibe and we relaxed here for the afternoon.

Very disappointed in the meal and service we received over the Christmas/New Year period. We rang to book for four people and were told they were busy at the time we originally asked for, so we delayed the booking by half-an-hour, which we were told would be fine. We were seated and orders taken very quickly. After an hour, we asked how long our meals would be (no feedback given). We didn't receive our meals until we'd been there for 1+1/4 hours. ALL meals were cold, but two of us were so hungry we ate them anyway (the other two were sent back). When we were asked at the end whether we enjoyed our meals, we said no and told them why. The response was "we're very busy" and we should have sent the other meals back as well. NO apology, NO offer as compensation (coffee, discount etc). We definitely would not go back. The meals were expensive for what they were.

We had lunch here after a nice walk along the karangahake gorge.
The winery has a lovely cosy atmosphere both inside and outside. The menu is short but scrumptious! Our pancakes, barley risotto and chicken drumstick were absolutely nice!
We drank their only red wine and it was just right with our meal and even bought an extra bottle to take home!
We will definitely go back! :)

we really enjoyed the wine and the seafood chowder is the best I have ever tasted! The grounds were beautiful and the patio area really nice area and very relaxed. They had a nice guitar player when we went.

We stopped here on our way through town and had a wonderful afternoon drinking wine and snacking on their great food. The couple who own the place were extremely nice. Definitely highly recommended if you're in the area.
