“Absolutely Spectacular!”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

When driving from Auckland to Tauranga we did not expect to stumble across the quaint town of Paeroa with it's interesting history and wonderful eclectic collection of vintage and antique stores.

In Paeroa, make sure you stop the car and get out and have a wander through the shops on the main street! We told about the beautiful gorge we were about to drive through by a very enthusiastic local shop keeper & did not overestimate the beauty of the gorge. We stopped to explore some of the walks and waterfalls.

We will definitely go back when next in NZ & will allow at least half a day to better explore the beautiful country side and old mine!

“goldmines galore”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Took some English visitors to the Paeroa Highland Games and stayed at a comfortable and friendly B&B in the Gorge....Owl? Next day walked across the river and explored the diggings and buildings on the other side, before walking along the river. It was a fascinating area and well worth the time spent. Had a stroll around the Waihi Water Gardens, with an excellent lunch. The waterlilies were a beautiful sight, all glorious colours. My visitors were most impressed, and made a point of returning to the Karangahake Gorge on their return route to Auckland.

“Beautiful part of the country”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

The Karangahake Gorge is a lovely spot to stop on your way along State Highway 2 from Auckland to Tauranga. The "Windows" walk is brilliant. You walk thru the old mine tunnels which have 3 viewing windows out over the river and gorge below. Take a torch as the tunnels are pitch black in places.
