Just returned from the Pajara beach having booked at the beginning of the year with Direct Holidays. On booking we requested a high floor, as was recommended by previous reviewers. This was passed on to the hotel but could not be guaranteed, according to our confirmation. About a week before our departure my other half decided to phone the hotel reiterating our request, again was told that it couldn't be guaranteed.

Upon our arrival we were given a room on the lower levels, which happened to be a corner room directly above the main bar. There was no direct sunlight, if you sat on the balcony the view was of a wall, and the noise of the drinkers below along with the smoke from the smokers was what we were expected to put up with. Our request had been completely ignored and we later realised that this was possibly the worst room in the entire hotel (1510).

The first receptionist we spoke to about changing our room was patronising and unsympathetic. We tried another and she was a bit more helpful but were told we could move the next day to a different room or wait 5 days for a much better room overlooking the pool with a sea view. We decided to take this option and wait the 5 days. I am pretty sure that a room in this area would have been available before that time and that we were made to 'wait'. Speaking to other british guests it was apparent that all the well appointed rooms were given to the German guests and the British were left with the ones they were not prepared to stay in. The guests are about 98% German.

The majority of the staff were miserable, apart from the bar staff. It was noticeable that the the Bristish guests were treated not as well as others.

There is a supposed rule that towels are not to be used to reserve sunbeds. This is totally not enforced and people were putting out their towels before daylight! About half the sunbeds are in a dire state, therefore the best were taken before 7.30 - 8am.

After a week in our new room we had to ask for our bed linen to be changed as it hadn't been done (not sure how often if should have been) but we thought a week was long enough without any clean linen. We were told that this would be done, but on return to our room could not believe what the maid had done. Only one of the 4 pillowcases had been changed. One of the quilt covers had been removed but no clean one put on to replace it and was left uncovered. We revisited reception and were told that it would be looked into. It was sorted out but one pillowcase still remained unchanged, I had given up by then. What service! Bearing in mind this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel I have never experienced anything like it

The Restaurant is a bit canteen like, you can sit at any table. The staff are rushed off their feet, trying to clear and relay tables. They are also expected to re-fill wine glasses. Expect a long wait. We ended up helping ourselves. Some of the food was ok but some of the meat was of poor quality and tough (steak, lamb chops etc) Salads were fine and desserts were a bit samey, plenty of fresh fruit though.

The drinks in the bars and the wine were cheap brands. Coffee from the machines was very good. There are many seating areas, and you could always find somewhere to sit. Although some of the upholstery on the furniture is dirty and stained. The wicker furniture, outside the main bar is in disrepair and really should be replaced.

The nearby beaches are lovely but you do have to cross some rough ground to reach some of them. The water in the main pool was very cold but it was kept clean.

There are hardly any shops in Costa Calma and certainly none near the hotel, therefore not alot to do if the weather is not so good. Hiring a car maybe an option. Taking a few good books might be an idea. I was expecting a much better hotel and was disappointed at this. We were expecting a bit of 4 star luxury and good service which we didn't get. I think that this hotel should be left to the Germans and that Direct Holidays/Thomas Cook should find some better accommodation for us Brits.

Jim Angela Bryan Jane -

We stayed in the Pajara Beach Costa Calma for a week from the 19th November 2011 - The Hotel is Brilliant - Rooms are Massive - Beds very Good - Great Food - Pool - SPA - Shops on Site.

2 Minutes to small beaches which are in the main for the "Nudistes" - Its funny to see what to me looked like Arabs coming from the Sand dunes to work in the morning - Although when I put my Glasses on I realised it was the Nudists with White Bathrobes on going down to the Beach in the Morning at Sun up.

Hotel is 90% Germans - 10% will smile and say Good Morning - Some just Stare and ignore everyone. We met a really nice couple from Denmark which helped.

There are Chipmonks at the Hotel (Beach) Entrance which are fun - A tip is they like Cucumber and are worth a mention.

The Hotel is massive and it took us 30 minutes to find our room - the Floors run from Nine at the bottom to one at the top ? It's Hard to work out the Tap Dancer from the Bottom Dancer - We got used to it around day 6 of the Holiday.

A member of staff said the layout was designed like a Cruise ship ? I would say it was more like a Gaol in the Bedroom areas.

In the Main the Staff are very helpful - Only one Growler in the Main Bar. The staff in the restuarant are Great as is the Boss who greets you as you enter - He was Friendly.

Overall a Great Hotel and Holiday and we would return to this Hotel in future.

Room Tip: Sea view at the front of the Hotel would be the Best choice - We did not have a Suite but saw one and they look Brill - Normal Rooms are Massive with Great Beds - Try and Get a Room between the first & Fourth Floors as they have great views. Note that the floors start at 9 at the bottom to 1 at the top ?

Stayed here in September 2010. After a 7 hour flight delay from Cardiff we were taken by coach from the airport where we were left by the rep to check in. It was late in the evening and we were told to leave our cases at reception and go and have something to eat. When we returned to collect our cases and room key we were told there was no room for us and we would have to go to another hotel, Melia Gorriones. We were told we could walk but we insisted on a taxi and good job we did as it was a good 10 minutes drive from Pajara Beach. We were told we could either stay at Melia Gorriones or come back 2 days later and we would have a room at Pajara Beach - we chose the latter option and were glad we did.
This is a lovely hotel, food was very good, we were upgraded to a Royal Suite as we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The hotel overlooks a lovely beach (beware the nudists if this offends you) and it was nice to stroll along the walkway above the beach and feed the little chipmunks in the rocks.
We didn't leave the hotel often although we did get the bus to Jandia/Morro Sable which was a nice trip.
I would not book this hotel again as they seem to have a serious overbooking problem here - we were not the only ones moved that night.

We have just returned from a lovely week staying in this hotel. We have tried 2 others along this little stretch of coast and this one is the best all round.
The food was very good.
Lots of outside terrace to eat outside.
The outside bar area was good too, the furniture is a little tired, but will be replaced soon we were told.
The rooms are fine and well cleaned.
The gardens and pool areas are very well maintained.
