“Clean, friendly hotel”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Good for unwinding and relaxing. Great food (we went all inclusive). The staff are amazing - friendly despite being really busy and we were always made to feel really welcome. We would like to return here if we get the chance.

We just come back from this hotel in Costa Calma. Location of the hotel is good close to shops and under hotel is nice beach BUT if you want sun bed for whole day its 12 Euros not cheap at all. Poll area is nice with 3 bigger pools and 2 small baby pools. Water in poll is quite cold. We have paid a little more money for better room and view was nice with side sea view. rooms 400 to 600 are better....Sleeping was O.K. but personally for me bed was to soft...Food was o.k. but after couple of days a little bit repetitive...They have certainly good fishes and salads. Spa costs 12 euro per person and you can stay there how long you want....but if you come out from spa you have to pay again...It could be free because there is just one pool with couple of massages jets and one Whirlpool...one Turkish bath and one dry hot sauna. Animation team was O.K. but entertainment for evening was boring and it usually starts at 22.00 and finish 22.30 sometimes 23.00...than a lot of people just live mostly older people and families. In hotel is Vera club for people from Italy...They have got special animation team, different activities on hotel...70% gests was from Italy and 20% from Germany.....and just a little from UK....TV channels just 2 in English and it was news channel..... very disappointed...even polish people had more channels. Island and Costa Calma is very windy. Island is very volcanic without vegetation...similar to Lanzarote...Oasis Park is quiet expensive but quiet good for kids. Comparing with Loro Park on Tennerife Oasis Park is boring. Generally hotel and location was good.

Room Tip: rooms on higher floors have sea view

Dear ondrej k,

First of all we would like to thank you four your positive review on the TA Community. We all are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us.

Sotavento beach is a publich beach (as all beaches are in Spain), and there are people who rent sunbeds, they offer a service and they take a payment for it. We have no relationship with they.

We have international guests of different nationalities and we adapt our cuisine, animation etc to all of them.

We look forward to give you a very warm welcome.

Best regards!!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days. The room was great and very clean, the maid did a great job. The hotel grounds are really nice with attention to detail and lots of vegetation. They have crazy golf, tennis and basketball courts, 3 large pools and a children's pool, a games room, spa (which is 12 euros per person to use) and one main restaurant. The food was good but not amazing, I am vegetarian so maybe slightly biased but my boyfriend said the meat wasn't that good, especially the fish, They had theme nights each evening, the Mexican night was good.

What we saw of the evening entertainment was very poor although people seemed to be enjoying it. We paid for all inclusive but cocktails were very limited with a choice of around just 6 or 7. There were others that you could pay extra for. As we booked through Thomas Cook for a flight and Expedia for the hotel, it worked out cheaper to hire a car to get to the hotel, which is around 45-50 minutes drive from the airport. There isn't really anything to do off the resort here, we just went to chill for a few days but you wouldn't need anymore than a week here in my opinion. The in room safe was a charge of around 2 euros a day and you need to leave a 20 euro deposit for tennis / crazy golf etc, and a 15 euro deposit per beach to towel.

The beaches are really nice and we walked pretty far in both directions although there are a few rocks in places, and the beach is a nudist beach so be prepared for that although it didn't bother us. It was around 27-29 degrees during our stay but very windy which I heard is common for the time of year. Be careful as it's easy to burn really quickly as you do not feel the heat because the wind is so strong. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. There is a spa shop 3 minutes walk from the hotel, turn right at the front entrance. Any questions please feel free to message me, have a fun trip

Had a weeks holiday at the beginning of March, booked a sea view room but unfortunately the room was on the side of the hotel that does not get any sun and it was far too cold to sit out on the balcony! The weather was patchy with some sunny days and some rain, but the wind remained pretty fierce throughout the week. There is not much shelter in the hotel grounds so be prepared to batten down the hatches.....Went all inclusive and the food was good generally, strange policy of restricting couples to the later hrs to eat in the restaurant - after 9pm too late for me. Good that some drinks are self service - coffee, beer, wine, soft drinks. Rooms were clean and new, staff were very friendly and helpful. Located on a fabulous stretch of beach if you like walking, one heated pool but still very cold, other pools were too cold to use. Shows need to be improved, entertainment team miming to songs is not what I would call a show! Hardly any English there, mostly German. Book a direct transfer - took two hours by the Thomas Cook coach transfer.

Room Tip: Sea view at the front of the hotel overlooking the pools so you get some sun - high floor.

Dear LMC1973,

Thank you very much for share your opinion with the TA Community.

Sorry for your dissapointment about the weather, we can control much factors but not about the weather.

Let me explain you about the signal you saw in the restaurant about guests afluency. We have a free entrance policy all service and at all the times, signal only informs the guests about the restaurant influx with the pictograms. This means: early and late hours low influx of guests --> two pictograms in green (no restricting couples), and rush hour 4 pictograms in red. This was a misunderstood.

It would be a big pleasure for us to host you during your next holidays!

We had such an ugly view from our room, that i took 1* off on the main note. We spent 3 days looking on a dead pigeon in its cage... Furthermore it is almost impossible to see the sea from this room. We asked to get an other room, 5 minutes after our arrival, and we were told that it would cost additional 17€/day, we prefered writing this comment...
Else, the hotel is well located, very clean and the staff is super friendly. The food is (for an all inclusive offer) good and you can find different things every day.

Dear Dan B,

Sorry for your disappointment.

Our reception team do their best job doing the assignement of the rooms, so if they told you about to pay an extra of 17€ per day, it means you had a room type and you requested for an upgrade o better sea view what it means a plus in your room rate.

We do our best at all the times and we don't think that the best way to complain because the guest don't want to pay an upgrade and want it for free is to write a comment on Trip Advisor.... This is called blackmail.

It is a shame you could not enjoy your stay.

Regards,

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel. We have stayed at other H10 hotels and assumed quality, food, hospitality, AI aspects would be the same. How wrong we were. staff were abrupt, unhelpful and very few spoke English. Main lobby entrance was always clean and looked inviting but else where was not clean. Glass tables were filthy as we're the sun beds. didn't see the pool being cleaned once whilst we were there. Cleaning in rooms left a lot to be desired. We were left without toilet paper on two occasions. As for the all inclusive, the wine was on tap and was undrinkable. There were a few cocktails included but if you wanted a decent glass of wine or cocktail you had to pay for it. There were a handful of English staying there. Most of the guests and staff were German. The show cooking was very limited so if you like your freshly fried eggs and bacon look else where. Overall a very disappointing hotel compared to other H10. Won't be returning here.

This is the hotel with the strange name and photos of a rather odd looking building. Do not be put off! We stayed for a week at the beginning of April with the sole aim of soaking up the sun and unwinding. We stayed half board: the breakfasts and evening meals were amazing. There was a wide selection of European fare for each course including healthy options and food attractive to children. There is a local minimart and a supermarket where we bought snacks for lunch, not that we needed anything after the enormous breakfasts! The cost of our drinks at the hotel was very reasonable.

There are pools, organised outdoor activities and spa treatments that looked fun. We prefer to sleep, read and take long strolls along the sandy beaches. We stayed in a superior sea view room. This was worth the extra for the view and the length of sunshine hours on our balcony.

Last year we booked everything through Thomas Cook. This year we went independently to obtain flights at more civilised times of the day. Thus we travelled out with Easyjet and back with Ryanair. We booked coach transfers through Travel Republic and these went very smoothly. Although Costa Calma is some way from the airport you will see the most amazing roundabouts en route and travel on good roads.

We struggled at times to have satisfactory internet speeds and reception on our iPad and phones. We believe this is soon to be improved and would hope that it is extended to all the rooms.

The hotel seemed to have particular appeal to intergenerational groups. When we stayed there were many Italian and German visitors and almost no English. Everyone was very friendly. We met several couples like ourselves who were repeat visitors. This is a very clean, well-run hotel. Why would we go anywhere else?

Room Tip: Full sea view on the quieter side.
