The hotel itself is brilliant with everything you need. Pool side very clean with lovely pools but not enough sun loungers. Food was great, massive choice but did get a bit much towards the end of our week. Drinks are quite pricey. The room was great, plenty of room with a big bathroom. There are no restaurants or bars to walk to.
It does help if you speak German or Spanish as the staff did seem a little phased when I spoke English. But all in all, I loved it! I would recommend staying here if you dont mind sitting by the pool everyday, worth a visit!

Room Tip: 6th floor or higher

This hotel was rated 5 star in Poland, four plus in Spain but overall experience was only 3,5 star.
The room was tiny but with the balcony and really nice seaview so no complaints BUT bath and tiles were rusty - it didn't look really nice.
The housekeeping staff took the glasses belonging to the room so we did not have a thing to drink from.

There was plenty of choices at meals but the food could be better, there was no soya milk for breakfast, scrambled eggs made from powder - disgusting, many dishes too much salted... The worst - dishes, glasses were dirty every day! And lots of cats!!!!
Most restaurant staff was really, really nice.

The pools and grounds surrounding the hotel - the best thing!!!!IGreat location- far away from the rest hotels.
Interesting program of everyday activities but could be more :) - very professional and energetic animators.
Also very interesting range of trips organised by our trip agent.

The gym - horrible, small, very old fashioned, old exercise machines and some of them - not working.
Spa - ok but nothing else. An expensive beauty treatments on the quality of services offered.

The reception... well... we were just married (we had a ring engraved with the wedding date)but we were still asked to submit a marriage certificate to upgrade our room.crazy... after sending the certificate finally got a better room (with the seaview and on the 5th floor) but I had to ask my mum to try pick up our certificate:(

Fuertaventura really nice place but just for once, unless you enjoy water sports - perfect for people intrested in windsurfing and kitesurfing. We wouldn't go once again, nothing else to see after one visit but good place to rest - lots of sun but also lots of really strong wind!
Better go to Lanzarote - amazing island!

The R2 Rio Calma is a great hotel on the outskirts of Costa Calma. Friendly, helpful staff, clean spacious rooms with terrace and great buffet style food of every description. The swimming pools were clean and well designed with waterfalls as a feature. Trips around the island were fantastic with stunning views ... a 'must visit' is the Betancuria region. The chipmunks along the promenade were fascinating and friendly. BTW the safety deposit box in the room was free. Ok, making a deposit for bath robe and beach towels was unusual but the fee was refunded in full prior to departure. Recommend this hotel, weather and sea breezes

Room Tip: I was in room 6116 with a sea view and although I could hear the disco it was not troublesome

We are spending a week in Fuerteventura and we are lodging in Rio Calma. It`s a very nice hotel, well built, clean and with very beautiful gardens and swimming-pools. We are really enjoying our stay here, But what makes the difference and makes it even better is the wonderful staff (or most of it). People like Juan Antonio, a wonderful professional, of course far more than a waiter, or the extraordinary Chef Paco, with his tasty food, also staff like the Chef Vitina, Rafaele, Lago, the barman at the disco, and Rosi at the front desk, who is always willing to make you feel at home. I think they are all people from Fuerteventura, called Majoreros. So, hurra for the majoreros!
On the other side, there are a few things which do not match with a great hotel: you have to pay for the wifi, for your safety box and even if you change your pool towels.

Stayed here in middle of May. When we arrived, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of juice and then when in room, we were surprised to find complimentary mugs full of chocolates.

The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The hotel grounds were breath taking and the rooms and overall hotel were very clean.

Lots to do in hotel from souviner shopping for holiday gifts to having a drink in the pool bar or visiting the Spa. Two pools in grounds, one like a mini beach and one infinity pool which is huge with a gorgeous waterfall!

Dinner was in buffet style with different themes each night but vast range of ood fom Italian pasta to fish to vegetarian!

Hotel in quiet part of Costa Calma but only five/ten min walk to beach/bars/souvenir shops.

Can't wait to go again!!

We stayed here for 7 nights from 10th April 2013. As a young couple (22 and 23) we wanted somewhere to relax, sunbathe and eat good food. At the R2 Rio Calma, we got all of this.
On arrival at the hotel the welcoming was pleasant but not outstanding.
Room: Our room 6137 had a balcony with a stunning view of the complex and sea views. Couldn't have asked for more. With lovely touches such as swan towels and mugs filled with chocolates, it just added that little bit. Our room was spotlessly clean and our lovely cleaner Doris, kept it spotless the whole time we where there.
Food: We were on half board and this suited us perfectly. We never found a need to eat outside of the hotel. The food was always hot and plentiful. However, the hotel has "themed" nights. It was pretty much the same food every night, with a slight twist on it. The desserts were always the same and sadly lacked the same quality as the main courses. However, don't let this put you off. Being able to sit outside in the sunshine with a glass of wine and good food was my idea of heaven. Breakfast was always lovely with plenty of cheeses, salads and choice of hot breakfast food. Gala day was always a treat when you could have a glass of bubbly with your brekkie!!!
Complex: The complex itself was lovely. It was always tidy and there never seemed to be rubbish around. We spent most days spent by the pool. We went into the infinity pool a few times. BE WARNED: It is freezing cold. But once you get in and swim to the edge and get those stunning views, the coldness goes away. There are other pools such as the childrens and the swimming pool next to the inifinity which always had people in it. We ate at lunch time in the pool bar. They do some lovely pizzas.
We were also given 8 trips to hotel Spa. This doesn't include any treatments. It does include the use of the steam and sauna rooms and also the pool. My husband loved it and if I had let him would have spent hours in there. For me there is only so many times I can have my back blasted by bubbles!!
OVERALL: We had a truly fantastic time and spending a week at the hotel was the perfect start to our married life. With the very few negative points the postive far out weigh them. We booked with Thomas Cook and we believe the hotel was definately worth the 5 stars!! I would recommend this hotel to family and friends and would definately go again!!!

Room Tip: We had a room on the 6th floor (6137). With views of the pools and sea. We never had any problems wi...

We spent a week at the start of May for our anniversary, as it was fairly early in the season it was not too busy.

The Rooms are big and very clean with air conditioning that worked well.

The gardens were superb and the pools were spotless as was the man made lagoon down by the sea, great for sun worshipers.
The bathrooms grouting needs to be looked at as this was a bit haphazard and the room decoration was a bit dated.
They really need to look at getting real pillows we had ask for more as they were more of a semi stuffed bag very uncomfortable.
most of the staff we met were very very helpful the exception being the Spa where the receptionist was a bit un welcoming and surly at times. The Free wifi in the reception area was a bit iffy as it kept dropping out, and the four Computer stations round past the shop were so slow and expensive as they are coin operated they need updated and made faster, some of the keyboards don't have all the keys working so you cant always navigate,, bit of a let down the restaurant was a bit iffy at times with meat often a bit tough to eat and the seafood was a bit rubbery fairly good choice but could be better but nice staff although some of the new waitresses should learn to smile. Would go back but only in the low season.

Room Tip: we had room facing the sea in the centre of hotel so did not get full sun or much noise nice breeze...
