We have just returned from a week's stay at The Costa Calma Palace hotel in Fuerteventura, travelling with Thomas Cook. The weather was a mixed bag of sun, cloud and a bit of rain but it was lovely and warm - 24 degrees most days. We booked with Thomas Cook as Thomsons who we normally travel with do not go to Costa Calma. I wonder if this is because it is 95% German visitors there? We did not find this a problem at all, infact it was a bonus as we constantly cringe with the behaviour of some British tourists we have encountered whilst on holliday. However, if you are the sort of people whose holiday success is based on making new friends from the UK, you might not have much luck in this resort unless you speak German! We were shocked as to the lack of legroom on the Thomas Cook airlines fight - I'm 5ft 8" and no matter how I sat in my seat, my legs were pushed up against the seat infront - not great for a 4 hour flight. Transfer to the hotel took just over an hour. We arrived to a friendly welcome and were allocated room 509 (we'd paid an extra £49 when we booked for a guaranteed seaview room). See picture of view. The higher the room number, the better seaview I think you would get - I believe the 'Suites' are on the 8th floor. I'm hardpushed to find any fault with this hotel and believe me, my husband and I are fussy and well travelled. The only thing which initially I thought might be a problem was the fact that we were allocated the early sitting time for dinner. They operate two times and in the Winter the early one starts at 5.30pm. We ended up arriving at our table (allocated when checking in - same table for dinner everynight - liked this arrangement) at 6pm most evenings and were out of there before the next dining time at 7.30pm so it wasn't a problem. The only other niggle was the Reception always seemed to be so busy and there always seemed to be a queue. There were usually two staff on duty but they were slow and one day I waited for 20 minutes just to get directions to the local chemist! Other than that, this hotel deserves it's high rating on this web site. Here are some of the best aspects that made our holiday great.......friendly staff/spotlessly clean hotel/loads of sunloungers available - a few reserved with towels but no need to panic as so much choice no matter what time you arrived to relax/excellent food - buffet style/relaxed atmosphere - no annoying animation team who are constantly hounding people to join in things like aqua aerobics!/mostly adults who are there with the sole intent (like us) to read, relax and be peaceful/right on the beautiful beach of Costa Calma. I think we may even return and we never usually say that about anywhere!!!!

pluses: great beach opposite the hotel with easy access, good hotel facilities including a heated outdoor swimming pool, fabolous breakfast and buffet dinner (and I'm a foodie:-), friendly staff in general
Minuses:location very quiet, not much to do outside the hotel, a handful of cafes and bars only, very noisy from 8AM onwards when the cleaners start their work, we didn't get much sleep :-(, lots of extra charges (safe, internet, towels, drinks etc), rules&deposits required pretty much for everything (towels, tennis table....), we assumed the SPA was not free of charge so did not use it, our room on the 5th floor faced a concrete wall with limited sea view, we stayed there for a week and were never offered a better room, caters for German, mature clientele mainly, rooms could do with a facelift for a hotel of this category
Overall, a nicely run hotel in a beautiful spot in lovely Fuerteventura, but I don't think we will stay there again

My wife and I have just returned from a 7 night stay at Costa Calma Palace and endorse all that has been said by all previous contributors bar Vanessa from Austria. Hotel, food, room, location excellent. Yes there was not much in Costa Calma, but we only wanted a quiet break. From our balcony we could have been in the Carribean. When thinking about a holiday I always consult Tripadvisor for advice and on return offer my response to a destination I have recently visited. Contributors before on this page influenced my choice of destination and I would endorse what they said except Vanessa!

fabulous location right on the beach. costa calma palace has great location, great food, great staff. not many english guests but that did not bother us, we just wanted a good hotel to chill out in for a week. one of the pools is heated which is good, this also meant lots of people in the pool from 7.30am, but not a problem as they did not seem to use the pool for the rest of the day. No fighting for sunbeds , lots to go round, nice private gardens that lead to the indoor pool. Food was buffet style but varied every day, lots of choice, even down to the cava in the morning . excellent hotel, excellent food, excellent staff......oh not many children at this hotel, mainly adults and mainly german.
costa calma itself is a very quiet resort. not really much to do, but great for a chill out week in the sun. hire a car for a few days or you can get the bus to jandia for just a few euros.
