“Great value for money.”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Me and my partner stayed here for a week in May 2013.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a top floor, one bed apartment facing the sea and pool. While some of the fittings could have done with some cosmetic changes or a freshen up, overall it was great value for the price we paid. The shower was good, towels and bed linen were very comfortable. Rooms were clean and airy. The kitchen was well stocked with useful items for a self catering holiday.

Although we didn't use the pool (weather wasn't great but it was in low season) it was very clean and very well maintained.

It is close to the dark sand beach and promenade in one direction and the parade of shops and restaurants in the other. Having said that, it's a very quiet location.

So we've been working our way down the price/food chain in Lanzarote over the years. Initially H10 Lanzarote Gardens (fantastic, deserves it's high ranking, but costs a fair bit more), then El Guarapo (cheaper than H10, but actually we thought the apartment was better value than H10) and this year Molino de Guatiza...

Molina is very well located, actually right beside El Guarapo and a short 10 minute walk to the shops/restaurants/pubs in the main centre of Costa Teguise. The apartment complex is great with a very well maintained pool area (with separate kids area), plenty of sun loungers, pool table, and shop for ice cream and drinks. The place was quiet when we were there making for a very peaceful place to lie out in the sun. Also not too British - plenty of Spanish guests which personally I prefer! The pool area, to me, was significantly more pleasant to sit out in compared to El Guarapo.

The apartment itself was decent. Reasonable size lounge, small kitchen, big bathroom with shower-over-bath, area at the front to sit with ocean view (we were on the top floor having paid a small supplement for an ocean view) which was very sunny right until sunset, and a separate terrace area at the back (got shadier earlier than the front and not as pleasant to sit in, but was generally windy and hence perfect for drying out out swim kit and wetsuits).

Sadly the apartment was pretty tired and slightly grubby. Broken tiles were common, the floor could have done with a wash, the grouting universally needed redoing, the bathroom suite was generally marked and worn, the kitchen utensils were about as basic as they could be, the beds were like concrete. Given what we paid for the week we thought it was acceptable, but if you're expectations are based on more expensive properties you could be a little disappointed. I certainly think the apartment at El Guarapo was significantly nicer.

To be honest we didn't spend that much time in the apartment itself and the awesome pool area and sunny area to sit out in at the front were more important to us.

The other disappointments were the TV (don't both upgrading - 15 euros for CNN and Sky News, no other English channels despite what they listed) and the internet (couldn't connect from our apartment or the pool area).

So overall the apartments were perfectly fine for our purposes (as a base to use for surfing), but I think were a step too far down the food chain. For me I think I'd return to El Guarapo in preference to Molina (and definitely H10 if it had a deal on!), but I certainly would stay here again if it was cheaper than other options (or they weren't available).

Room Tip: Ocean view definitely worth paying for :)

We booked these apartments as we were on a budget this year and we had no complaints. We are a family of four and the two bedroom apartment we had was very spacious and very clean and fresh. It was a top floor apartment with a lovely view of the sea and also of the pool. The bathroom was spotless and even had a bath (something you don't see very often in a Continental holiday apartment). There was no plug in the bathroom sink but when this was mentioned to reception they sorted it out straight away. The cleaners cleaned the apartment every two days and changed the towels when they were in and the sheets were changed once a week. The beds were lovely and firm and comfortable although they could do with buying some new pillows as some of them felt like bags of cotton wool balls under your head (too soft). There was a two ring hob, microwave, fridge and kettle and the kitchen was well supplied with cooking utensils, pots etc. if you wanted to cook. The pool was great and there was never a problem getting a sunbed at the pool even though the apartments were fully booked. There was a nice mix of nationalities Irish, English, Spanish, French and Italian while we were there. These apartments are in a lovely quiet location with some nice restaurants nearby and if you go out the back of the apartments there is a lovely coastal walkway which leads to the town centre which is a bit livelier and has plenty of bars and restaurants. The reception sells 5 litre bottles of water for €1.50 which saves you having to carry bottles of water from the local shops to your apartment. The only improvement I would suggest for these apartments would be air conditioning as it was very warm when we were there and some nights the heat was unbearable. The staff although their English was not fluent were very helpful with any questions and did their best to help us. The snack bar was closed for most of our stay and only re-opened the day before we came home and they only seemed to sell drinks and ice creams, nothing savoury. All in all great value for money and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view / top floor apartment

Our experience of the apartments was positive on the whole. The location is excellent being in a quiet residential area (apart from one pesky neighbouring dog) and our 2 bed apartment No 34 had a dual aspect balcony with panoramic views of the sea and to the back towards what I presume is the national park. The apartment was extremely spacious but a bit run down in some aspects, the bath needs replacing for example but ideal as a shower tray. If oddly painted furniture and poor grouting are going to bother you, best to give it a miss, but these aspects didn't bother us. We didn't cook but there seemed to be sufficient utensils and pans though the pans were in the same cupboard as the bin and the cupboard didn't smell too fresh. There was also no toaster which was a disadvantage for me. Turning right out of the apartments and then left at the main road takes you to some shops and restaurants and Last Minute Travel through whom we booked trips to Fuerteventura (a rather run down place) and Timanfaya National Park (very worth a trip). Tour guides and drivers were excellent and Michael and Hose particularly good fun. We also went on the Catlanza catamaran cruise out of Puerto Calero which moored off the Papagayo beaches - excellent trip with young, fun crew and we had the opportunity to snorkel and ride a jet ski. If you turn left out of the apartments through the back gate you can take a shortcut which is across the road through a park area and then right at the end of the path this takes you to the centre of Costa Teguise and Las Cucharas beach which we very much enjoyed. The beach is very clean, though the water can be choppy; good for body boarding. Sun loungers with parasols are 5 Euros each. You will get massage ladies and men and people selling ice creams etc., but no one was too bothersome. The resort centre is also very clean. Eating out is expensive particularly and surprisingly seafood. Playa Bastian is a 5 minute walk from the apartments at the end of the road the apartment entrance is on with darker sand and a smaller beach. The main issue we had with the apartments was that we arrived late around 10.30pm and there was no bottled water or tea/coffee facilities in the apartment. We spoke to a member of staff who was involved in some kind of staff knees-up who advised us that the shops were closed and didn't offer to even sell us bottled water though my son later told me they sell this in their reception area during the day. We wandered down to Casa Felix a restaurant at the bottom of the road - lovely guys - who sold us bottled water and though they were closing, put together some gorgeous Spanish tapas to take away. This saved us fighting over my half a bottle of coke left over from our flight! We realise this is self-catering but some bottled water at the very least would be a nice touch for those on late flights. The other issue was towel changes. We had our bedding and towels changed the day after we arrived which seemed strange, this was a Sunday and then we didn't get any more fresh towels until the Friday which was not good. Usually the cleaners came in folded the dirty towels and placed them in the bidet -very odd and not too hygienic. We did wonder whether my teenage son leaving wet towels on the floor had annoyed them or whether it was our nationality, though we had no other proof of that and all the Spanish staff we spoke to, including cleaners, seemed friendly. Our sheets were also straightened one day but the bedspreads left on the floor. Most of the guests seemed to be French, German or Dutch and we had no resort rep so did feel a bit lost when we arrived and there were no instructions in the apartment for nearest shops, doctors, hospital, pharmacies etc., which again would have been useful. On balance though we would recommend the apartments as location was excellent and the apartments spacious. The pool was good too but the sea was warmer!

Just back from these apartments after spending a week here. Had the same problem with French children late at night. Our last night was a nightmare with noise at 1am in the morning and a young boy in the pool. Best feature is pool abd pool bar. Owners spoke little English but that didn't bother us. The location is handy for beach. No hair dryer and you have to hire iron . No toaster but has kettle and 2 rings. Adaquate if your on a budget but don't bank on a peacefull nights sleep. Having stayed at the Guaropo before I wished I had paid a little extra and stayed there.

We are a family of 4 and stayed here for 2 weeks in July. The first week was pleasant with hot weather and a few British families to talk to. We found the staff leaving notices in English on the front door for late arrivals but could not speak very much English, as we could not speak Spanish we were not made to feel as welcome as other nationalities. The second week was worse as the British families left and the apartments filled up with French who seem to think letting their young children run amock around the public areas very late at night unsupervised making a lot of noise was acceptable. The management did not enforce the rules clearly stated next to the pool and we even saw kids between 5 and 8 years old climbing onto the roof of the apartments right in front of the owners at 10.30 at night. Beds are solid but the apartment was clean with fresh towels every 2 days. The pool bar had the most friendly staff and they seemed to try hardest to make your time there a pleasant one. We could smell sewage most mornings coming from the bathroom and the odd job man seemed to be messing with the sewage drains a lot in our second week. The pool was cleaned every morning and was about the best asset to this place. We would not stay here again after our experience.

Decided to stay here after reading reviews here, had checked out quite a few others but decided this would suit us, and we weren't wrong. Got to the apartments late thanks to hold-ups at the airport with luggage, but there was a notice on the door to welcome us and let us know which apartment was ours. It was clean, roomy and perfectly functional (although a toaster would have been appreciated); the towels were changed about 4 times during our 2 week stay, and we had fresh bed linen halfway (to be honest the beds aren't the best, but then they never are). The pool is kept scrupulously clean (every morning fully cleaned), and although we didn't use it (beach too near to stay by pool) it was equipped with plenty of sunbeds, and a pool bar which stayed open longer than the advertised hours (and supplied free food with drinks!). They have free wi-fi, which unfortunately is only available if you're really close to reception (we couldn't get it in our rooms, but could connect to Guarapo over the road!). It's lovely and quiet being between 2 one-way streets, and is just a short stroll down the footpath to get into the main centre, or around the promenade to get to Playa Jablillo beach (Bastian is OK but a bit too rocky for me). The guys were all friendly and helpful, and always ready with a smile. Glad we stayed here and for the price we paid it was a bargain. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Some rooms are in the 2-storey section, some in the 3-storey. Ours was the top floor of the 2-storey...
