“What a Disappointment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

We have been going to Costa Teguise for almost 20 years and in that tome have stayed at several complexes including staying at the Oasis Lanz on 7 previous occasions but we have never experienced anything like this stay before.
We booked several week ago and was offered H/B basis.
We arrived at reception and was asked to pay 100 euro bond!!!!
No warning of this bond and completely unexpected. My husband and myself are in our 50's and both have mobility problems....not exactly the type of tourist who is going to wreck the room.
The room we was given was one of the room that was badly in need of refurbishing and really should not be being rented out until it is made safe and hygienic
The room was so damp and dirty it was beyond description. the fixture and fitting where not even worth 100 euros.
If you wanted to watch the outdated TV you have to pay extra for that and even then you had to spot the British channel. Luckily I don't go on holiday to watch the TV so this did not affect me but for those that do be aware that when one gentleman complained that he had paid for 24 hour TV and it had gone off at 10am before the 24hours was up he was informed that it did go off at 10am and come back on at 4 after the cleaners had finished??
My concern was what cleaners where they talking about because they sure did not clean our room and from the evidence of what we found under our bed they had not cleaned the room form quite some time. I found a magazine that was from December. the 'cleaner' did come in to the room twice whilst we was there. and shook the bedding but she never even empty the bins or sweep or mop the floor. My bedding was torn and bobbly and very uncomfortable.
The mould growing on the kitchen wall made me glad we had opted for H/B until I realised that they did not really cater for H/B residents.
The Breakfast was self-service. It was the same everyday. fried egg, bacon sausage and beans.
The evening meal was a joke.
Thursday it was Chicken curry or spaghetti bolognese....we eat out.
Friday...BBQ
Sat.......Lasagne followed by chocolate cake....not bad
Sun....Irish stew or fish and chips.....we eat out
Mon... TAPAS....not bad had better
Tuesday......Chicken Wrap!!!!!!!!! I was given a bread basket filled with chicken curry....I went hungry
Wed....fish and chips.....we eat out
So much for the H/B. Usually when we go H/B we have starters and and sweets.....no such luxury here.
We had the obligatory visit from Larry the "holiday club rep" trying to introduce us to invest into the holiday club......as if....That was the funniest part of the holiday. I discussed with him the room we was in. he was in the room at the time and looked at the mould and we still never got offered a move. The waitress was very nice and I am sure quite embarrassed when she had to explain what our meal choices where.
We are so lucky that we know the island and Costa Teguise and I feel sorry for anyone who has experience Oasis Lanz for their first visit to the island as I am sure it will put them off returning. Each morning we had to listen to the reps introducing their next "victim" to the holiday club and really wanted to offer them a look at what we had endured for the week. I would love to of seen the 'show room'
I paid for internet connection for the week but it was very unreliable but all the surrounding bars and complexes have free WiFi and do not mind if you go to use it and you do not have to pay extra for the pass word.. Oasis Lanz appears to be all about how many hidden extras we can charge and how little can we give back. They have cut so many corners they have made Oasis Lanz a complex that I recommend everyone to give a wide berth.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room. When talking to those who had one they had paid no more for the privilege...

Thank you for your comments, and I am sorry that your apartment did not meet your expectations. If you have a problem with the apartment then we advise you to contact reception immediately who would have offered another apartment or resolved the problem. As we are a large resort we do of course sometimes have problems, but we are quick to rectify as soon as we are made aware.

With regards to your comments about the lack of cleaning, please remember that you have booked a self-catering apartment, NOT a hotel suite. Most people are well aware that a self-catering holiday means just that - and cleaning up after yourself and making beds etc is the responsibility of the renter. We do however strive to have cleaners come in a couple of times per week as a courtesy, but they should not be expected to wait on guests hand and foot.

I am also sorry that you did not enjoy our food, although we have actually had many compliments from our guests and members, especially since the new breakfast buffet was introduced, which has been extremely popular. Of course breakfast is the same every day - it is a buffet with different choices! With a choice of (unlimited) eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, a selection of cheeses, fresh fruits, cereals, freshly baked bread and croissants with marmalade, jams and butter served with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and choice of juices, we are satisfied that this provides a sufficiently varied choice for breakfast and have been advised as such by our members and guests alike.

With regards to the 100€ bond required at reception, this is a refundable security deposit against breakages and damages. Please consider that our apartments are actually owned by the members and must be protected as such. Paying a bond is not at all unusual, especially with self catering apartments; although I agree that your booking agent should have advised you of this. I assume that you booked via an independent agent and not directly with us, as we always state the deposit requirement and amount on all of our booking confirmations. This really is more of a complaint that should be directed at your agent and not our company.

Our third visit to these apartments in recent years, the first two were to the apartments which have not been upgraded. This time we were in one of the new ones so, from previous visits, we were able to see exactly what had been done.

First impressions were good and apartment 332 looked very stylish. (Previously we stayed in 238 then 302).

However, we arrived around 8.30pm, dropped our cases and went out to eat. Purely by chance I looked in the fridge and was horrified to find there was no water or milk, both of which had been provided previously. Bearing in mind the water is not, we are continually told, suitable for drinking, we weren't impressed at having to go straight out to buy bottled water so that we could have a drink when we got back and also in the morning.

However, as the days progressed, it became apparent that the modifications had been done with more concern for appearance that actual comfort and what is needed. The cast iron chairs on the balcony, apart from being uncomfortable, are already rusting and in hot weather will be unpleasantly warm to swimsuit clad bodies. Likewise the plastic (whoops sorry), faux leather settee!

The kitchen area is very smart and the original breakfast bar has been removed to open up the room. Toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, microwave - ONE POWER POINT - so a family wanting to make breakfast, i.e. toast, coffee, tea, heat milk for weetabix etc will have to take turns. Really, would it not have been easy to add another power point? Oven and two electric rings, some very nice china and new cutlery plus appropriate utensils and pans.

The bathroom has been changed to include a walk-in shower which has a good and consistent supply of hot water. Anyone who has stayed in the old apartments will probably have experienced the agony of the boiling/freezing/boiling water system of those showers. However, the shower head cannot be lifted down and I was unable to wash my long hair properly without actually getting into the shower. Some new towels, to replace the threadbare efforts we had last year - not very good quality and they will soon be like the old ones, BUT someone is trying. Lovely slippery floor, you can get from one side to the other in about 2 seconds with the option of hitting yourself on the lovely new glass door on one side or the perspex side ot the shower cublcle on the other. Washbasin is a separate unit set on top of the washing area, putting it neatly out of the reach of small children.

Bedroom has been done up beautifully and I have to say the new beds are wonderful. Having been tormented with back pain for years, I actually rose from this bed pain free for the first time in ages. Nice new bedding and duvets AND finally some mattress covers - I said some fairly nasty things about the absence of mattress covers last year - on the basis of hygiene. Lots of cupboard, shelf and drawer space. But WHO decided to move the safe to the very bottom of the wardrobe?? Bearing in mind that many of the visitors to these apartments are not in the first flush of youth, this is just stupid. I was unable to get down to the safe myself and had to keep asking my husband to retrieve or replace things for me.

Interesting touch was two HUGE cushions and two massive bolsters - some of these can be seen on the pic I've scanned - which festooned our bed and prevented us from getting in. These spent the week on the settee.

A BIG CRITICISM NOW - we wouldn't normally watch tv on holiday but the weather was exceptionally bad. We were horrified to turn on the tv and find a porn channel right next to the cartoon network. A family with children could quite easily switch on the cartoons and leave the handset for the adjustment of sound - and come back to find something quite different being watched. This channel needs to be removed - if anyone really wants it, they should have to request it at reception.

The cleaning is very perfunctory. Maid came in twice during our week, changed the bedding and towels once, gave the bathroom a quick clean and swept the floor of the living area. Floor was not washed and I'm quite certain because there was a mop and bucket on the balcony and the mop remained bone dry. Would have been prepared to clean up myself but no cleaning materials are provided and having had to buy washing up liquid, I wasn't happy to buy more materials. Which brings me to another point, just about every holiday maker most likely leaves washing up liquid behind, so WHY IS IT NOT LEFT FOR THE NEXT PERSON???? I realise it's one of the maids' perks but this is really not good - everywhere else we've stayed, there have been cleaning materials left by holidaymakers for the subsequent occupants.

Now the two pool areas are beautiful - really clean and very well maintained. We didn't swim because we had a week of bad weather but the heated pool was warm - having toe tested it. Plenty of sun beds and you don't need to reserve them with towels, although one lady was so determined to have the beds of her choice that she left out 3 towels all through the bad weather.....what a loser! The gardens are also gorgeous and the gardeners work so hard.

The food in the bar is so so. They have a difficult situation because they don't know how many people are going to eat there. Breakfast is 6.70euros and you can eat as much as you want of fresh fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, kiwi) bacon, fried egg, baked beans (not Heinz!) and some dubious sausage - also fruit juices, croissants, toast (you make it yourself), tea and coffee plus, strangely, little slices of chocolate cake. If you eat a big breakfast, this is probably good value and more of anything will be cooked for you if anything runs out but if you don't eat much in the mornings, it's not worth it.

We didn't have an evening meal here but the menu was exactly the same as last year and there had only been a tiny increase in price. We went to a bbq one night - very nicely cooked by the chef and served by him aided by a waitress, all very clean and hygenic. You could go back as many times as you wanted - and some people did - might have been better to restrict this and up the quality a bit but my husband was happy with it. I am more difficult to please.

The evening entertainment is mixed, very mixed. The best I can say is that they were trying.
One female "singer" on the night of the bbq, cleared the bar area rather quickly and despite closlng our patio doors (we were located bear the bar), her efforts through various keys, were painful. However, there was a rather good magician (accompanied by his dog!) and we were sorry that he had an audience of only 8) plus a male singer who sang Frank Sinatra type songs very melodiously. The Spanish singer attempting Tamla style songs was less successful. Cost is obviously a factor here but if Oasis Lanz upped the quality of the entertainment, more people would go into the bar at night, spending money on drinks which would subsidise the entertainment.

Reception is very smart and the 3 receptionists are very friendly and helpful. There is an atm in the lobby plus a few shelves with books.

On the whole, although I've made some strong criticisms, this is a good place to stay primarily because of the central locations and the really lovely grounds and pool. Plus there are two bedroomed apartments with two bathrooms, though you need to check when you book as I don't know whether this is the case for all the two bedrooms.

They need to sort the shower room floor, this is really dangerous - and get rid of the porn channel.

Room Tip: Unless you specifically need to be on the ground floor, suggest you request an upper floor room (no...

Just returned yesterday from our 2 week family holiday at the Oasis Lanz Club. We had a great time and felt that the hotel was great value and in an ideal location within the Costa Teguise resort. We had a 2 bedroom apartment over looking the heated pool and pool bar/terrace, and upon arrival were extremely surprised and pleased with the spaciousness and quality of the apartment. We can,t deny that we had a few maintenance and insect problems during our stay, toilets not flushing, no water, dishwasher not working, electric socket not working were the main maintenance problems that we encountered during our stay, but to be fair to the hotel they quickly resolved these. We did see one cockroach and also had a plague of ants, but once again both were dispatched fairly quickly and with ease. We also had a visit from a small lizard who we nicknamed Lizzy. The cleaners were terrible, made the beds but did not change the sheets, we pulled some furniture out to see what was tucked behind it and it was obvious that they had not swept behind in a long time. However despite these hiccups which we had a laugh about, we totally enjoyed our stay at the Oasis Lanz hotel and found the majority of staff to be generally very friendly, particularly the pool bar staff and the lady lifeguard! The evening entertainment in the pool bar was generally very good, we enjoyed the quiz night and also one of the singing acts. Although the apartments had ample cooking facilities, nice big fridge/freezer, microwave, oven. We found that most of the time during our stay we wondered down to the Peskara restaurant on the beach front for a full English breakfast which was good value for 1.99 euros and also shared a litre jug of Sangria whilst watching the world go by :) Evenings we tended to try to visit restaurants serving Tapas food and that were frequented by the locals (Always a good sign) You are literally spoilt for choice, and to keep costs down we did try a couple of all you can eat Chinese buffets restaurants, the best of which we found to be the one directly opposite the hotel. Finally watch out for the time share guys who frequent the reception area, my wife made the mistake of talking to one the first day we arrived at the hotel! Otherwise I would say that the 2 star rating given to the hotel is the equivalent of a 3 star hotel here at home.

I booked this holiday through Thomson and after reading some of the reviews thought I had made a mistake at first. I came in april this year with my partner and 3 children aged 9,7 and 4, the two bedroom apartment we had was huge and very clean we were on ground floor also which was great with the children. The children's pool was great always a lifeguard and always a sun lounger. The staff at pool bar were amazing and also the reception where we got extra pillows at no hassle wot so ever. Our parents were staying at a near by hotel which had more stars but it wasn't as nice and they preferred to come to the oasis during the day as the pool and atmosphere was better. We coudnt of asked for a better holiday or weather and would definitely come back and recommend to anyone the reviews that aren't good clearly have nothing better to do on holiday than take pics of cockroaches and faulty equipment instead of their families and the gorgeous island.

upon walking into the oasis lanz, it looks lovely, the staff are polite and time share people at the ready .....the rooms though tidy were attracting cockroaches because i had to request for a cleaner to come round and request toilet roll and new towels and the beds were made but no new sheets. to be honest, the place was as expected to be for the place and price it was but the problem was, coming back to the uk and £700 has been taken from my account through various online transactions. i only gave my card details to the receptionist at the oasis lanz. luckily my bank are paying it back and investigation in onway. i have emailed the hotel so can only hope for the best from here. be careful...... and do not use the onsite restaurant, the food was frozen and horrible - plenty of cheap lovely food in the square 5 mins away.

The above comments implicating Grand Holidays' involvement in credit card fraud are unfounded and disproved. After an investigation taken by the credit card company in question, it has transpired that the said fraudulent activity actually took place in Dublin, Ireland, a location which has no connection whatsoever with Oasis Lanz Club in Lanzarote or Grand Holidays.

Grand Holidays takes the security of its guests and members very seriously and are bound to treat any personal and financial details with the utmost confidentiality as per the European Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC).

Despite the full co-operation of Grand Holidays, this comment, which is libellous in content, has yet to be removed as per our reasonable requests. To this end the legal department of Grand Holidays has begun legal proceedings against the publisher of these false accusations.

I took a chance with this booking because the price and pictures of the pool area and view of the appartments looked quite good. I really enjoyed my 2 week stay (18 Apr-2 May) (appartment 255) which was out of season. The weather was mixed. The appartment was tired in paticular the kitchen cabinets, the kettle, microwave, hair drier and toaster were new and the cooker good. (we were self catering). The pool area was very nice for us (not many 05:00 towelies, mainly German) but I would hate to think what its like in peek, balls and daulphins and crokodiles and rubber rings were ok in the pools which I didnt like at all. The beds round our pool (adj to the kids) were very nice but at the other pool they were very knackered. There was one lifeguard in particular who would walk the pool and remove your towel if you wernt there especially arround lunch time, I thought this was brilliant, shame its not done universaly (most 'reserved' beds were always under the limited pool parasols, and reservies never present!!!!!). The pool bar was nice as were the shows in the evening but prices there could be a lot better (most beers in town under €2 but at the pool €2.55). The location of the Club is very central and very easy for the main town area, also there is a supermarket (Spar) just accross the road too, prices good, Hiperdino further down the road even better. Nice eating places in town but as with a lot of Spain its getting expensive to eat out (for us old foggies, averaged out at €30 including wine), every item is rounded up to the nearest euro, can you emagine everything in the UK being rounded up to the nearest £. Lanzarote is a nice island to tour around if you hire a car but once again bus tours are silly prices ... one trip for two on a tour bus could equall 2 weeks car hire. The Sunday market in Tequisa is a good day out, very lively, lots of music, look out for the Spanish snacks caravan, for €3.50 you will be hard pushed to finish it, a lifetime memory!!. I will go back and probably to the same place, if the price is right. Why do ALL resorts panic people into security boxes, they are so cheap to install and would be a great attraction to offer them free, three weeks hire pays for a new box. There is no incessant music played at the pool which is becoming a modern plague, relaxing and peacfull.

Room Tip: The way balconys are sheltered there are few with sun all day, ours was sunny mainly in the late aft...

We have just come home from our 5th stay and have to say the only real change since last year is a new charge of 100 Euro that you will have to put down before you check in as a hold in case of any damage to the room. This is for independent tour only!! So for an example "On The Beach" whom we travelled with. The rooms are very basic but the money taken includes damage anywhere in the hotel. The hotel have club members these people would be time share back in the day so they have bought into the club and is fair they don't want tour companies sending club18-30 smashing the place to bits. However we were not told until check in to lay out either card or cash so be aware.

We had as ever great weather and a peaceful time all be a bit of on going upgrade work but not early morning or late night.
Eating out is still very cheap as well as drinks. A meal for 2 with wine can cost anything between 20 euro to 50 depending what you like.
There are so many bar's and restaurants they tend to keep the price low.
We shall be back next year for sure.
