“Not great but service and staff excellent.”

We are a well travelled couple in our 60s and were disappointed in the facilities at this complex. It is geared up for family entertainment during the day around the pool and in the evening when the only bar is taken over with bingo and Butlins type fun ...which is ok if you are into that or have kids. We would have liked an alternative quieter bar to be available.
The other disappointment was the charges made for extras in your room... especially surprised to see they charged for access to the TV! A first for us anywhere in the world!
Food was good with a wide choice that should suit all palates. The drinks were all local so not that great.
We had a non-refurbished room that was just about okay but the bathroom was well overdue a refurb. I cannot work out why they have a cooker in the rooms when they do not provide any pans and it is an all inclusive complex. Very odd, especially as the refurbs also have a cooker.
The resort has the look of a once great town that is in danger of slipping downmarket. Several shops, bars and restaurants were closed up and others were very shabby. However, there are several good quality restaurants around but the majority of the bars are run by Brits with the inevitable Sky Sports in most of them.
Trips offered by Thomas Cook were very pricey and we found it much cheaper and more flexible to hire a car to visit the sights.

Room Tip: Try to get a refurbished room but be aware that the some that have already been refurbished do not g...

Arrived at the Ficus 26th jan for a winter break with my fiance. Check in was relatively quick, first impression on walking to our room was, what a dirty minging pool, the outside on the white was rotten and on the pool floor was just caked in muck. (It was cleaned the following day, but not on the edges).
Anyway gets to our room, wasnt that bad (weve stayed in worse) room wasnt a refurbed one, the beds looked like Burt and Ernies out of Seasame Street, comfy though but the bed covers were very scary, 60s style and made you itch! Also you needed the blue itchy blankets out of the 1950s wardrobes, (thats if you could slide the doors across without them coming off the hinges). As it was cold of a night.
Main room was ok, no cutlery or crockery though, (huh), why have a kitchen in the room then?
Had to pay for the TV €10 for a week plus €5 deposit for the remote which was returned on your departure, a bit much if you ask me, cos why would you want to rob the TVremote its beyond me unless you have a fetish of collecting them, if that is the case, then I suggest you get help!
Balcony wall was caked in pigeon poop, thats another thing, Pigeons, i didnt pay extra for them to sit on my balcony an poop away! Reported it to reception who immediatley got a caretaker type man to come and remove it, he even re painted it, lovely little man he was.
Dining room in the restaurant was a bit on the small side, dread to imagine what it would have been like in peak season, free for all brawl I would imagine. Food was ok I suppose, like I said earlier on, (we have stayed in worse and have seen far worse food). Very quick off the mark removing your plates, its like they are hovering over you waiting for you to take your final bite, then wham, theyre in for the kill, its like a magic trick...wooosh, plate vanished!
Entertainment, hmmmmm what entertainement? One night i Thought they had brought a random holiday maker in just to sing some songs, Chrissy Looker?? He was no looker, and sang terribly!
Costa Teguise itself, a lovely place, would certainly return, but not to the Ficus its an alcys paradise complex! Full of P155 heads! The main ones at that time where brummys, harry larry n mo...one of them was an absolute disgrace, dont even know how even managed to board the plane to get to Lanzarote, you wouldnt want him around you if you had little kids! Defo not the place to take kids also.
All in all, it was managable to stay there for a week, anything longer you would have begged to leave the complex.

On arriving at the Ficus my first impression wasnt that great to be honest - we did not get a refurbished apartment and had a few problems to begin with .... we didnt have a kettle SORTED rent one for what ten euro and get five back on departure - the bed in the lounge was broken - SORTED within the hour we had a new base put in whatever problem we had it was resolved within minutes and did not deter us to have an unhappy holiday ....
FOOD was excellent and there were always options I defy anyone who could not find something they liked ... the waitresses were a bit quick off there mark at removing your plate and cutlery as POSH N B said but that i feel was not a problem as who want to sit and eat with dirty plates around you ..
ENTERTAINMENT - i thought the gang did really well and worked there socks off... they were always on the go and organising something and the reason some activites were mixed around is due to circumstances eg water polo they could do that because the sun was not out and the pool was freezing ... so they played something else ... the bingo ... sometimes no one played this so the team got us all involved in other activities at the last minute ... i thought the entertainment worked very hard to make our holiday a memorable one ... I felt we got the personal touch and this made our holiday ... so well done Lorna , Zowie and of course Alex with the puppy dog eyes .... hes a wee cracker and can charm the birds out of the trees .. mwaaaaaah to you ... overall i had a great holiday - you get what you pay for .. and i felt this was great value for money ... so well done to all Lanzarote is a lovely island and I would definately go back to Ficus if you want FIVE STAR then pay for FIVE STAR ...but this was definately better than I expected .

RECOMMENDATION:- Don't consider the Ficus if you are looking for a fun packed, good value, all inclusive holiday in the sun.
APARTMENTS:- OK, if you are lucky to get a refurbished one. No kettle, hairdryer, TV or air con in any rooms (you could hire the electrical equipment if you wish). No cutlery, plates or heating in the apartment if it is cool. Clean though, generally, but towels and bedding not changed every day.
FOOD:- Absolutely rubbish! Ingredients poor, selection limited and repetitive, not worth going all inclusive for. Out of 7 nights we eat out 5 times as lunch was dinner, if you catch my drift.
DRINKS:- All in plastic glasses all times of the day, poolside or inside. Beer was the only drink worth having. Strange taste to the spirits, and the cocktails seemed like pop. Coffee from a machine, not great.
ENTERTAINMENT:- Appalling! Thomas Cook Entertainment team were all English of course, a bonus in that they didn't have to repeat everything in 10 other languages!. However, the team of 3 consisted of 2 girls and a fella. The only one with any energy is the fella, Alex..a cheeky chappy from Liverpool with a big smile and enthusiasm. Very professional guy and personable and good at getting people interested in the very limited entertainment program. If its cloudy or rainy, don't expect them to make any effort at all...just when you want entertaining actually! Throughout the day and the evening, they probably work a total of 2-3 hours and the tasks do not constitute work...that would be like a holiday for us! Timings for activities not adhered to, so often you missed them or they were different or they just didn't happen. We were more likely to see them huddled in a corner chatting or down Cactus Jacks playing pool. Alex deserves credit though and within a stronger team, he would definitely contribute to a good entertainment program at any establishment. The singer, Lorna, sang her favourite tunes rather indulgently, although she had a good voice, but where were the Spanish entertainers, like Flamenco and guitar and Julio Iglesias?
FICUS STAFF:- treat the clientele like animals (livestock), herding them from breakfast greasy buffet through to slop for lunch (in troughs). Take your eye off your plate for a split second and its cleared and cleaned, whether its empty or not. Don't put your fork down for a rest, or you will go hungry! Any attempt at thanking them for their efforts fell on deaf ears and was drowned by the canteen clank of angry pots. Maids were nice though, and spoke Spanish and English and smiled and worked hard.
RESORT:- Costa Teguise is clean and quite nice in parts with good restaurants (though not many gourmet ones), cheap but good quality chinese buffets and a few shops selling tat and out of date cosmetics (the latter not really cheap as was same for perfumes really).
CLIENTELE:- The average customer of the Ficus is, well, average, no bother, just a few that drink too much but they keep themselves to themselves. However, it seems to attract people without manners, or have they left them at home with the babysitter?
SUMMARY:- The Ficus has an institutionalised feel about it, likened to a prison. Its location is handy for town, and need never to have become an AI complex. Public areas are tired and worn out, though a fuller refurb is on the cards we understand. It is not as fun as it could be, and we would say, not as fun as some reviewers suggest....and believe me, we love fun. It feels more of an endurance than an escape to the sun. The pool is freezing by the way, so take your wetsuit. Happy holidays to all members wherever they stay.

Room Tip: ask for refurbished apartment and away from the show room as the PA system is loud.

Me and my husband have just got back from a brilliant week at Ficus, lanzarote. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food was lovely and there was always something new to try aswell as the traditional english food everyday. Everything was lovely and clean. We were on the top floor with a pool view and sea view. The entertainment team were fantastic, there was plenty to do for all ages and they got everyone involved. Many thanks for all the entertainment! I booked the holiday for my husbands birthday as he has never been abroad before and he didn't want to come home :) I would highly recommend people stop here.We will be revisiting again!
