“Don't always go by reviews!!! see for yourself”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Arrival : The reception is dated, but clean and our check in was quick and friendly. You have to pay for safes, fans, hairdryers, tvs etc for a small charge. You can have the tv for two days at 5euros or 15 euros weekly.
internet located in reception 1euro for 15mins, connection is good. NO wifi in hotel.
the toilets located in reception are smelly and water logged as people use them from the swimming pool. there are only two public toilets in whole of hotel apart from your rooms.

Rooms: Some of the doors in the older blocks are hard to get in- we struggled but once you got the knack of it, its fine.
The apartments are spacious, separate bedrooms and pull out sofa bed. balcony is a good size. there is no crockery only tea/coffee cups and glasses but is a cooker and fridge. we found the beds fairly comfy and rooms were cleaned 5/7 days. The showers aren't fantastic but did the job, there was always hot water.

Restaurant: always a fab selection of spanish and english food, staff worked extremely hard to keep the dining room tidy and clean, looks small but we always got a table.
meal times 8-10 breakfast
lunch 1-3
evening meal 7-9
snacks in between all day

food consists of salads, rice, fish, veal, chicken, chips, bread rolls, sliced meats and cheeses and a selection of desserts.
had theme nights so american, chinese and spanish.

help yourself to beer, wine and soft drinks in restaurant too.

pools : very clean, very cold when initially get in but ok once in, my 5 year old loved them. lifeguard on duty 10-6 daily.
always enough sunbeds. pool bar from 10-6.

drinks: local beer and spirits only on all inclusive- cant upgrade to named stuff. selection of vodka, gin, tequila, wine, martini, rum and beer. i personally didn't like the spirits but each to their own. beer was ok, served in half pint plastic cups.

general areas : clean and tidy- pool table, ping pong table, volley ball court and air hockey table to play. also a small park at the back of the hotel for kids.

Entertainment: Ainsley and Lindsey worked extremely hard all day to include and entertain everyone. daytime quizzes, pool games and charity days. Lots of fun and giggles, sometimes laughing at them!!!
Evening activities are ok, kids hour between 8-9 then bingo 915 til 10 and then a local act or quiz or cabaret/karaoke. could do with a refurb in the piano bar and sometimes struggled to get a table. Could do with more acts going in and a little more for kids.
bar staff worked really hard in the piano bar and tables cleaned etc quickly.

the hotel is good location, not far from town/square and nightlife. beaches are close and clean. some good bars at the end of the road- go see Alex in ferraris- he does cheap trips to the market, rancho texas and waterpark- would highly recommend as the reps can rip you off terribly!!!
the local bus is cheap and you can get anywhere on them.

there is a family of cats at the hotel- two adult black cats, 3 tabby kittens and a ginger cat who's just had 5 kittens, we fed them daily!! they do stay in the hotel and are friendly but if you don't like cats...

we didn't hear any building work apart from one day and it was minimal.
No air con.

we would return and really enjoyed our time at the ficus :)

Room Tip: blocks one and two have been refurbished but they are near to piano bar so can get noisy. we stayed...

I don't normally write reviews but feel that after all the negative comments on here on the lead up to our stay at the ficus, that I would reassure others who will be going! I can't say anything bad about Ficus. Myself, my husband and our 14 year old son had a great time and have just returned. All the staff are very polite and helpful and made us feel welcome. We had one of the Un-refurbished rooms but other than slightly outdated tiles, it was clean and had everything we needed. The balcony's are huge.We were in block 4 on the first floor and had the sun all afternoon and evening which was great for drying towels. Towels and bedding were changed 3 times during our week. There is no air con but didn't need it as the apartments cool down in the evening. slept really well every night, lovely comfy beds. The food was great, always meat and fish available along with chips, pastas, rice and salad amongst other things as well as soup and desserts. Can't comment too much on evening entertainment as we tended to go out in to town but it sounded great for the younger ones. All the entertainment team were great, especially Lindsey and Ainsley. They made a great effort with not only kids but adults also. During the day there were darts competition, water polo/volleyball, football and quizzes. Cactus Jacks pub at the end of the road was great in the evenings and well worth a visit, they have entertainment every evening and are very popular. The pool is very cold as people have said but after the 40 degree heat we had I wouldn't complain and it's lovely once you're in. The white painted area around the pool can be quite slippery though so take care! The sun beds get unlocked at about 9 so no-one can put their towels down at stupid o'clock like some places we've been too!!
Overall, we had a great holiday, met some lovely people and would definitely go back at some point. Please don't worry like I did and have a great time :)

Room Tip: Blocks 4 and 5 are still the old ones but absolutely fine and get all the sun in the afternoon and e...

We have just returned from our 2nd year at the Ficus (2 adults 45 & 47 & a 14 year daughter , staying 14 nights all inclusive.
Normally we do not return to the same hotel, we stayed in the Easter school holiday`s of 2012. I have read some of the reviews, but if you pay 3* Hotel prices you will not get gold bath taps. Ok,there are 5 blocks of appartments, blocks 1 & 2 have been refurbished with walk in showers, new furnishings & a coat of paint. work on blocks 3,4 & 5 have been stopped as it looked like the hotel ws full.So if you can, stay in Block 1 or 2.
Food: again was very good, plenty of choice. Best food was when there was a chinease themed night. As the Hotel was full we had to get into the restaurant fairly quick as it did not seem big enough to accomodate the hotel when its full.Free flowing beer/wine & soft drinks, as well as ice-cream.There is now a pool bar which was where the loud? music was coming from (it wasn`t that loud)
Entertainment:There are 2 Thomas Cook entertainment reps for the Hotel & there is always plenty going on (except Thurs there day off) from darts, pool, crazy golf, bowls, football against the nearby hotel, water polo, water volleyball etc I did participate in the water games & also the midday quiz.So if you have kids this is ideal. Also there is entertainment each night in the showtime room, we went twice, but we normally strolled into town to sample the happy hour 2-1 coctails at the Number 1 bar.The Hotel reps worked very hard to keep everyone who wanted to be entertained.
Pool: cold but this is the norm as they are not heated. the pool area green matting & edge of the pool needs some attention in places. The sun beds are padlocked till approx 0845, then its a free for all (99% of tourists were British) most people including us purchased an inflatable lilo as the sun beds are not very comfotable & are not adjustable.Beware of the sun adviser (sun tan lotion seller) her lotions are no better trust me I know from experience & they are expensive. Her thermometer read 35 degrees & it was hot for our 2 weeks though the wind made it feel cooler.Saw plenty of sunburnt people & a couple of people who had blistered! be careful its hotter than you think.
Accomodation: We were in one of the older room which had not been refurbished. we had no safe deposit box in our room just a hole in the wall in the wardrobe, we were promised that new ones were being fitted, lied did not have safe at all for our 2 weeks. In the middle of our 2 weeks had a cockroach issue & complained to the hotel who said they were going to spray the room. (i know what your thinking moaner its a hot country etc, but as a seasoned traveller 5 cockroaches in one day is a bit excessive!) we think the room was sprayed? as the CC`s disappeared.Though we did plug up the holes in the wardrobe woth towels/tissues.
The fist 9 days the pool area was nice & fairly quiet, then as one reviewer put it the Jeremy Kyle clans decended on the Hotel.Loud/noisy & unsure what a restaurant was, let alone how to use food tongs!
WI-FI: None at the hotel though there is internet access in the reception 2 computers 1 Euro for 15 mins. Most all of the bars have free WI-FI access all you need is there passwords which they will gladly give if you have drink.

Room Tip: Try to get in the newly refurbished blocks ! & 2. Though you will be opposite the showtime bar w...

Just returned from a weeks holiday at these apartments staying All Inclusive. ACCOMMODATION - just about made 3 *** although there are 5 blocks of apartments all overlooking the pool only 2 of the blocks have been refurbished, this is still on going, however you do not see or hear any work being carried out. The reception only point you in the direction of your apartment so can be difficult at night as the blocks are not numbered and beware there are no lifts so if you are on the top floor ( floor 3) there are 2 lots of stairs to climb. We were in block 5 and the sun in on the balcony all afternoon till evening. THERE IS NO AIR CON. Cleaners 5 days a week towels changed twice in the week. POOL - acceptable cleaned every morning, the usual towels on sunbeds from first thing in the morning. This is the only hotel I have been to that has fitted carpet round the pool, in places very worn. This did stop children slipping and falling when running around. Loud music played around the pool all day. FOOD - Small restaurant, choice of food limited. Breakfast was same every day which is ok as you would not eat cooked breakfast every day at home, pancakes were being cooked each morning and there were a few bakery items plus cereals. There was always salad & cold meats , cheese, 2 choices of dessert and ice cream at lunch time and evening meal and there was tin fruit usually pineapple and pears the choice of fresh fruit was apples, bananas & pears. The main courses were limited always fish and pork occasionally chicken or veal, pasta, chips, rice, and some kind of potato. I would advise you go for breakfast before 9am and evening meal after 8pm to avoid the crowds. ENTERTAINMENT - cannot really comment on this as being 2 adults we did not go into the show bar we preferred to go out and about, the same in the day we did not sit round the pool ( cannot understand people who sit by the pool all day every day and never move from the hotel).
EXTRA COST IN HOTEL - Safe 15.75 euro for the week - TV 9.80 euro for the week - Hire a kettle 7 euro for the week - hire a fan I think was about 10 euro
AREA - At the top of the road there is Cactus Jacks they serve food all day and entertainment every evening from karaoke , quiz every night which is quite funny to join in or watch, also some live entertainment. Get the local bus to Arrecife 1.35 euro or stay on to Porta Del Carmen, OR Playa Blanca. Walk up the sea front for lots more shops and little sandy bays. If you are celebrating and want a nice meal try Pablos we both had a lovely 3 course meal with 2 drinks each and coffee the bill was 70 euro this is a lovely restaurant. Be prepared for the wind we sat on the beach one day and was sand blasted. To sum up we enjoyed our week and the accommodation was what we paid for so we did not expect too much.

Room Tip: Blocks 1 & 2 overlook the show bar so maybe noisy in the evening.

Just back from a 11 day holiday at the Ficus with one adult, a 17 year old and a 6 year old, I will try to be as honest as possible. We stayed in one of the non-renovated rooms and yes the bathroom was a bit tired looking but the rest of the apartment was fine. The 'cleaners' came in every day but to be honest I would rather have been left a mop and brush to do it myself as they were rubbish!! The food was excellent with about 4 different choices of main course every evening but yes if you were there for a fortnight it could get a bit repetative but the way I seen it at home do you really cook fourteen different meals over a two week period!! The entertainment was ok however I would say that if Ainsley ever leaves the entertainment would fall flat on his face as it was his humour that made it worth while. Both him and Lindsay do a great job trying their best to keep everyone amused from 10.30am until 11pm but the hotel should really try and bring in more professional acts to help them out at night. The area of Costa Teguise is pretty much a ghost town with most of the bars and Restaurants closed but as we were all inclusive that didnt affect us that much. Overall I felt this holiday was well worth its money, the staff were always very pleasant and had great patience with the kids. My advice would be to try it :)

We have just returned 1st Aug 2013 from a two week stay here at the ficus. Do not have one bad word to say about the hotel or the entertainment team. We were a family of 4 with younger children and Ainsley and Lindsey bent over backwards to include them. Was always on hand for a chat and even came round serving Sangria! They included everyone on our holiday during the evening in the piano bar. The bad comments are unfair as no one tied them to stay in and see the entertainment, plenty of lovely bars on the island.
We had our room cleaned every other day with clean towels and replenishments. The food was edible, always something to be able to eat at every meal. Kids loved the choice of foods for them. Unlimited ice cream cones and a pool bar plus food during the afternoon served in the afternoon restaurant. You would or could not go hungry here.
So what the toilet doors were vandalised, added character to the place. Perhaps the moaners should think the people writing on the doors were in the wrong to do such a thing in the first place??? Obviously no respect!
Every member of staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. It is a three star rated hotel and offers what you need. The complainers must have champagne ideas and lemonade money as you get what you pay for!!!!! If you want luxury then go for a better star!!! Their comments are harsh and unfair. After all the holiday can only be how you make it yourself.
I did find that the Scottish were cheeky and putting plastic cups in the pool table so they didn't need to keep paying. Quite cheeky in my opinion as no one else would get a turn unless you were in their large group!!!
You do have to be up early for a sun bed , they are released at 9am and your be lucky to get one if you are not in the line up!!!!
There was a life guard on duty everyday which was an added bonus too. Their were 2 resident cats a black one and a white, ginger one. These had kittens so these were there too but they were well cared for by the hotel and fed often. The cats keep the pests away!
All in all we had a lovely stay and would go again. Having been to Los Zocus this was far better. If you want food poisoning Zocus is the place to book along with loud mouthed drunks!! Ficus is a family friendly hotel. The music was switched off at 11:30pm however this because of the neighbouring guest rooms. We had one of the new ones next to the piano bar and the music was heard in the rooms but as it went of at half eleven it did not faze us. After all we were on holiday!

Las Characus beach is the main beach from the hotel but if you follow it round past the Irish bars and keep going you come to the most beautiful cove. Lovely clear waters and colourful fish. Cactus Jacks is open for the early hours and we enjoyed our time there with free wifi and plenty of free shots during the games and shows.

Don't be put of it really is not that bad. Thanks to the ficus, Ainsley and Lindsey we had a smashing holiday and are sad it went to quick and it's over.

Room Tip: The blocks nearer the restaurant seem to be the refurbished ones, however the older ones are just as...

It can basically be gauranteed that no matter where you go there will be complaints.i do believe however no matter where i have been the complainers have not the manners of a pig it is the reason why you feel you are disrespected because the staff believe you are disrespecting them.manners cost nothing
