One week at Guarapo Apartments - what a tonic! We wanted a break from the UK winter on a budget and that's what we got. It would have been nice to have a sea view but you don't get that on the ground floor or for the kind of dollar we were paying. The other occupants were mainly older couples often staying for weeks and because many are returnees, I guess, they do learn which are the best rooms. Ours was perfectly adequate - without being in anyway luxurious. It was on the ground floor. No cockroaches or burglars although we were careful. There were lots of cats and a few flies but not really more than you might experience at home. The pool and pool side area was very pleasant and often sheltered from the wind. The pool is not heated but of a reasonable size. We swam most days.

The best thing about the Guarapo is the location. A short stroll down to the beach, the supermarket, shops and restaurants, yet it's a haven of peace and tranquility and mostly what we were looking for.

The compromises - if you like to spend 15 minutes under a hot power shower you'll be disappointed. The shower was a bit feeble and had a tendency to run out of hot water especially if we showered immediately after each other. We learnt not to and it wasn't much of a compromise given that Lanzarote only has 10 days rain a year, so water is probably at a premium! Because we did mostly self-cater, we also found the range of kitchen utensils a bit limited but again that's a minor nit-pick.

Overall, we'd say the Guarapo is a great place to unwind on a budget for those who enjoy a quiet location within easy reach of all facilities.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views but ground floors easier access.

Second stay at El Guarapo. We use the top floor (2-bed) apartments as they are very spacious and have 2 big balconies with a sea view. It is less than 5 minute walk to nearest supermarket & the restaurants in the centre. The one bed apartments on the 2 lower floors are really low priced and I think some residents had been there for weeks !

Apartments: Beds basic but not terrible;

Decor ok,

Kitchen pretty good: Toaster, Kettle, Microwave, Full Size Fridge, Freezer, 2-Ring Hob.

Lounge has TV with few English channels, Sofa bed, Dining Table,

Bathroom: 2 sinks, Bath with Shower over. Hot water doesn't last long ! (small water tank)

Balconies: large with table & chairs

Only downside: Cleaning a bit sporadic to say the least. Towel change every 4 days. Depends how messy you are :-)

Reception is only open limited hours. I e-mailed ahead and asked what out room number would be and they just leave the door open for you and the keys on the table indoors. You can also call a number displayed on their notice board on arrival and they will let you know where you need to go.

Pool: small but big enough for the small complex.

There is a snack bar and restaurant but not open all day.

Costa Teguise is a nice quiet resort. It does have some very nice restaurants and a good beach.

It's not for Wild Party nights etc and many residents when we stayed in March were older. The weather at that time was about 23 degrees and often windy, but compared to minus 2 at home it was absolutely lovely.

Don't miss the Italian Restaurant Devina Italia - fabulous food. The ravioli was spectacular !

Room Tip: 2 bed apartments very spacious and have a good view. One bed apartments very good value.

We stayed at the El Guarapo for 1 week in early March. Me, my partner and our 1 yr old daughter thought it was in the ideal location to get get some winter sun. First impressions were that the apartment was spacious, nice layout and clean enough. As the week went on, our opinion changed, there was a dead cockroach under the sink and bugs kept coming up through the plug hole in the bath. It is a shame that towels and bedding were not changed more often. As far as the entertainment was concerned, it did not provide us with the family atmosphere we were looking for. This was an error on our part as the apartments are mostly populated by older holidaymakers. The staff were friendly enough, pool slightly cold and restaurant seemed basic. Overall El Guarapo provides a nice location into Teguise for those on a budget.

Room Tip: Nicer rooms around the pool

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your comments. These are very important for us.
Our complex is a very quiet, more in winter because we have a lot of repeat customer who visit us since many years ago.

With reference your comment about cockroach, we want clarify that in the Canary Island s this not a problem. The weather is tropical and it's the reason of your comments.

Kind regards, and thanks very much.

Just returned from our fourth visit to these appartments. El Guarapo is very well situated close to the sea and a 5 minute walk from the resort centre. The appartments are cleaned by very friendly cleaners every other day, towels changed often and sheets every 8 days. Gardens and pool are well maintained, clean and tidy but the pool is unheated. Antonio in charge of maintenance is always on hand and eager to help should you have any problems. There is a small pool bar/restaurant on site run by another Antonio and his wife, they provide very good food from the menu at good prices, this versitile chef will also provide customer requests with 24 hrs notice (we had a pork joint and leg of lamb). Summing up I would recommend these basic very clean, well appointed appartments with teriffic staff. We will definately go again.

Room Tip: Be aware there are no lifts and no hand rail on stairs which are quite steep.

Returned home on New Year's Day after yet another fantastic stay at El Guarapo. This is now the fourth year we have stayed at these apartments at Christmas (we have also stayed at other times throughout the year). Location is great, close to the town and beaches, but it is so peaceful. The complex is spotless, lovely little restaurant on site, pretty gardens and the pool is always kept beautifully clean. Would highly recommend these apartments to anyone. And, of course, we look forward to returning some time soon. Thanks to everyone at El Guarapo!

Room Tip: First floor 1-bed apartments highly recommended
