“Friendly Hotel for Adults”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

We visited the Coronas Playa from the 29th November to 6th december 2012, we had a lovely holiday and met many new friends. It was our second visit to this hotel and nothing really had changed. The food is very good and on the all inclusive you can have any drinks you like. The entertainment is very good both during the day and at night. The rooms are looking a bit tired and could do with new furnishings and the restaurant could do with new chairs, but the rooms are very large and you get a kettle etc on A/I. Otherwise it is a brilliant hotel and would certainly return.

Room Tip: Rooms near the bottom pool are best

This hotel does not disappoint .we had booked a superior room with sea views but all rooms in this hotel have sea views on half board opposite the lower pool which is the entertainment area but not the 18-30's type more of the target golf and bean bag throwing type with a quiz at 4pm to round off each afternoon yes all great fun with Deano and Stacy organising. The hotel does seem to have its share of elder guests but they all join in
The meals are buffet style and serve food for most tastes a good touch as you enter the restaurant are the hand cleanser and yes it's surprising a lot of people don't use them.
At the rear of the hotel is the promenade turn left and walk into CostaTeguise take the left fork by the little roundabout and this will lead you into the centre of the resort about 15 mins.
The entertainment at night was brilliant and had something for everybody.
What makes this hotel is the hard working staff and the effort they put in to ensure your holiday is an enjoyable one.
A few facts
If you want to change from half board to fully inclusive while you are there then its 46 euros per couple per night (if you are big drinkers then the fully inclusive is for you )
3 euros for extra tv channels per day
20 euros will get you a decent snack with beers for 2
The room swipe key serves as a hotel credit card max 300 euros then you have to settle the bill
A beer is about 3.50 euros
Barcardi and coke is about 4.95 euros

Finally would I come back to this hotel YES YES YES

Room Tip: South west facing will give you sun in the afternoon on the balcony

Just back from The Coronas Playa. We are regular visitors because although it would never claim to be luxurious the Hotel offers a continuing level of service which few others attain.
The All-inclusive package is excellent value for money, and the food is perfectly adequate, unless you are seeking 5 star Michelin.
Yes, renovations are needed but as the hotel is open all year, have to be fitted in. The pool surrounds where being repaired whilst we were there and new room sliding doors are due soon
.
For anyone to claim that the entertainment is "dire" is clearly living in another world.
However regular visitors should be aware that Les and Leslie are taking a three month break and will not return until April, I understand. Tony is still crooning.

All the cats are still there, from Tank to Fluffy the kitten. A few "outsiders" have infiltraited, having been abandened.
The Vision Bus now stops at the Hotel, which is a bonus.

Overall, so long as it remains Adults only, All-inclusive, and Gold Standard we will continue to return.
The one main annoyance is the charge for Wi-Fi. Most Hotels now offer this for free.

What a fantastic time we had! We booked this as a first holiday away with friends (first time in 22 years), couldn't have asked for more. Staff very attentive and most welcoming especially Michael after all the emails we sent with various requests (if you don't ask you don't get!!!!!!!) Food was excellent throughout the weeks stay, if you didn't like what was on offer then more fool you!
We couldn't be [--] with the welcome meeting as they are generally always the same, trying to get you on a trip or two, having said that we had decided to do the fire mountain trip which was fantastic!
We up-graded to the superior room, if I am being honest, don't waste your time and money, it's not worth the extra 93 euros a week, the room we had (612 and friends 611) did not get the sun in the afternoon and evening! On the plus side the room was massive, think it must have been a family room in a previous life!!!!
**** TAKE HEED **** Gents, don't bother with a suit, my mate and me ummed and arred after reading reviews and took our suits out before we travelled, GOOD DECISION, dress standards are a joke which brings me onto a negative bit!
It says in the brochure about shirt and tie on a gala evening, mmmmmm, don't think so, we did not see a shirt and tie throughout the whole week.
DRESS STANDARDS ARE A JOKE!!!!! It states that Gents must wear trousers for the evening meal, quite often, every night in fact, Gents were wearing jeans and trainers, WTF, and I doubt very much if anyone was ever challenged!!!!!! Our group of 4 made the effort every night and, if I say so myself, looked very smart. To be fair so did a majority of the clientele, its just the odd few!
To summarise, would I stay at this Hotel again, a most definite YES.
I hope anyone reading this finds it useful and most of all, enjoy, it really is very nice :)

Just got back from our second visit, the first being in 2008. On our previous trip we were allocated a very good superior room overlooking the bottom pool. The room package included robes, slippers, wine, fruit, water, coffee/tea making facilities and loungers on the balcony. Fortunately I made note of the room number as we left. This enabled me to email the hotel prior to this trip to request the same room. On our arrival we were given a glass of champagne and the key to the room next to the one I had requested. This was an excellent start to what turned out to be a very enjoyable holiday that was over far too quickly.

We found the staff to be very helpful and the place was spotless as is Teguise itself. In total this was our third visit to Lanzarote. We normally hire a car for a few days whilst on holiday as we like to get to places that are not accessible on organised trips. We did wonder this time if it would be worth it as we have previously seen most of island. However we did decide to hire for three days from the company adjacent to hotel entrance and was glad we did as it allowed us to visit two of the Ceasar Manriquie sites that we had missed before. These proved to be very interesting so now we've seen t all his sites on Lanzarote.

All in all a very good holiday.

Having just returned from a 7 day all inclusive holiday, March 2013, this information may assist others booking this hotel. Rooms are sparse, but large, rated as a 4 star hotel, but be aware you have to hire a kettle, at a cost of 12€ per week with a 5€ deposit. Towels for the rooms are small and thin.... you would expect more from the UK Premier Inn chain of hotels. Additionally the room safes have to be paid for, underlining the rating on this front maybe too high.

Food is good, cleanliness of the hotel is very good, pools are unheated, staff are very attentive and Thomson staff work hard to make the holiday a success.

Room Tip: Look for room with balcony overlooking the swimming pool

Having travelled for 30+ years like many, we check the reviews before booking and whilst many seem to like the Coronas we failed to take notice of the increasing number of negative ones and booked. Never here again. This is never 4 star or "Gold".
The experience was like steppping back a couple of generations into a bygone era. The reception area resembled an old people`s lounge and that was before we met any of the guests. There is no disrespect intended here for anyone concerned, but my wife and I are 60 and felt 15-20 years younger than the majority of the people we met. TheThomson entertainment matched this age group. We tried it once but It was so poor we stayed outside and waited every evening for the so called professional acts to perform. We couldn`t work out whether it was the mild sexism: the humiliation of a newly wed couple or the music which upset us most. We shouldn`t have bothered waiting as the professional acts were poor also.
Our room was adequate except for the mould in the bathroom, but the food let a lot to be desired. We are not "picky" eaters but this was the first time my wife failed to finish a meal on holiday on all our travel. Her" lamb roast" was totally inedible.
The welcome meeting was conducted by 1 smart Thomson rep. and another that appeared to have been dragged in off the street.
The "Monkey Bar" was closed for 5 days and given this was annouced as an annual event ,in this week, when the hotel was under - occupied we wondered why Thomson had negleted to inform us prior to booking. Given that other bars in the hotel closed @ 6 it meant us having to wait outside the main "entertainment" as described above. Even worse we found on the last day that a local bar was taking Coronas guests free of charge. The reps. failed to tell anyone!
Again, please be warned - you will not be booking a 4 star hotel. This place needs a major refurb.for that and a change in its whole approach to customer satisfaction. It also needs basic maintenance to repair the many broken tiles around the pool areas, for example.Thomson are doing themselves a major disservice to themselves if they continue with its rating which is barely 3 star.
Incidentally, the weather was superb!!
