As other reviews have stated the politeness & manners of all the staff make a visit to this hotel a relatively pleasant experience and may account for the many repeat visits that are reflected in TripAdvisor reviews, however as mentioned in "lesley h" review this is in no way a 4* hotel. The décor of the 4* hotels in Benidorm is the minimum standard we would have expected in a Thomson Gold 4*, not the case here, the rooms are large and clean but very basic & dated, 21 euros for a safe 1 week ! air con that seemed to blow warm air at night ! old style tv with poor picture & channel choice & all at a cost of £1650.00 for two. The staff do their best, but service to the tables at night in the Monkey Bar can be slow to dead stop, why they do not encourage you to stand at the huge bar order, collect your drink, then sit baffles me, if you attract the attention of the bar staff then you will be served, if not be prepared to speak out or else you may go thirsty. Pool areas were large with plenty beds, very quite at the top pool, fun & games at the lower pool, entertainment in Monkey Bar hit or miss, cant comment on the Pavilion Tent where the main acts performed as we did not go in, (temp akin to a warm oven). The Crown Restaurant looks OK at night but during daylight hours the tired décor becomes apparent, food is quite good and plentiful. Walk 5/10 mins to the left on the promenade accessed from the back of hotel to the 4* Teguise Grand Hotel, go in for a look to see what 4* hotel should look like. Big plus is a very quick transfer from airport and nice quiet location with a few bars & restaurants "Dickens Bar" right hand side from front entrance is a cracking classy bar with class acts. In summary, my opinion only of course, the folks that come here year after year are either getting unbelievable deals or they need to get out more, if this is the standard for a Thomson Gold 4*, then our visit to the 5* Sandos San Blas, Tenerife, earlier this year (£400.00 cheaper) would be 7* or 8* with Thomson's. Not a bad overall experience, but definitely not what we expected for 4* Gold.

Room Tip: If you want total peace & quiet, close to restaurant and reception request room around the top p...

we have been to the coronas playa on three occasions and have found it to be an excellent hotel , rooms really big and simply but comfortably furnished , but the thing that makes this hotel special is the staff. Every member of staff excells in customer service nothing is too much trouble. Food is very good with plenty of choice if you do not find something suitable you are very hard to please

This hotel needs to be regraded it is not a 4 star . The decor is very tired and need of freshening up the furniture and decor in the monkey bar is the same as when we came 5 years ago.The waiter service is vey slow and the quality of drinks are poor you need to ask for large or you cant even taste the spirit in the drink. The food was awful how people can say it ok amaze me , if you had a joint of turkey one night you knew that you would be getting it the next night as a curry or the stuff they called soup. All veg was frozen and my husband had blood twice in two separate occasions in chicken and all was said was sorry and more came out fried to a frazzle. Lunchtime consists of burgers pizzas etc all fried again.. On the good side the thomson res are great no faults to be found lesley in the duo does a grand job so does April and the good ole Tony . The pools are freezing probably due th the high winds we stayed week comm 19th JULY as others have said solar panels were making there grand appearance. WE WILL NEVER RETURN .

Room Tip: Go to Cyprus

Pretty last minute and didn't want to be in Greece or Turkey in July as its just too hot due to searing temps and lack of breeze - (very uncomfortable) - New that there would be a breeze in Lanzarote (was a little extreme) however the Hotel was faultless really - Staff were exceptional and cleanliness excellent! Food also very good - There will always be picky people out to moan about choice etc but we found the choice and quality first class and certainly exceeded our expectations after reading some of the reviews. The drinks were branded -happy days! st Migal on tap and bottled Heineken - spirits were also branded - No local equivalent which we thought was great - If you want a G&T you can have Gordon's Gin or Beef Eater etc. The Gold idea -i.e. No KIDS is definitely the way forward for us as we had a peaceful time round the hotel - We wanted a relaxing week and this place certainly gave us that - Would we return? Most definately!! Good Job Hotel Coronas Playa - the other bonus for us that was that it was all British guests - not that we have any prob with other nationalities but it was Great!

We returned for a second visit to the Coronas Playa Gold Hotel, in Costa Teguise, having been here the previous year. Last year we had just a standard room (210), which was very nice, but this year we thought we'd have a superior room. (615) Unfortunately, we were disappointed. With a superior room, you have a sea view. We must of had the room furthest away from the sea as you could get, and with only a partial view of the pool. Most of the view was of a large concrete wall to our right, and roof top with grey stone chippings right in front. Not very nice.
Our room was also in the front of the hotel, and if you are a light sleeper, I advise you do not have one of these rooms as the noise from the road and local bars may give you a disturbed night. Also, one of the things you get with a superior room is a fruit basket. Ours consisted of two dried up oranges, two kiwi fruits and a packet of crisps! they really shouldn't of bothered.

Having a superior room still does not entitle you to a TV, this will still cost you three euros a day. Plus three euros a day for your safety deposit box. We had a standard room last year, which was very nice I do not think the superior room is worth the extra money.

One good thing about this hotel is the dining-room, here you are not all squashed together, like you are in some Thomsons gold hotels. The food was nicely cooked but, not of a great variety, same applied to the puds and sweets. The standard this year has slipped a quite a bit. But, do try the porridge for breakfast its delicious and the omelettes are very good too.

They do not have a communial TV room at this hotel so, if you wish to watch sport on the telly you have to go into the bar. This doesn't open until 5pm!
But, if you leave the hotel and go a few doors down on the left, there is a little bar called The Crown, and here you have choice of tv's showing all sports programmes. If you go on Monday to Fridays between 3pm and 5pm (happy hour) you can buy a large, cold, local beer for 1 euro!

Also, during our stay we hired a car, normally we hire from Autos Martina but we were a little way from them. So, we went to Plus Cars, First we agreed on 65 euros for three days, when we picked it up the next day, it had changed to 70 euros! So beware. The car was bashed about a bit, dirty and with no free map. Still, it got us around this lovely island, but, if I go again we will use Autos Martina, just off the Galeon Playa, Costa Teguise.

We will go back to Costa Teguise, but perhaps try a different venue next time.

Room Tip: NOT the front ones over looking the road, it didn't bother us much the noise from the street and...

This is a lovely hotel but unfortunately it is on the windiest, most galeforce island we have ever been to. We had a whole week of damaging galeforce winds and with it being so hot we felt as if we were in a fan oven!! It was impossible to read a newspaper as the wind continually ripped into it making for an experience to forget on the sunbeds (or should it be wind beds). The wind was so powerful it ripped a couple of solar panels off the roof of the hotel causing damage to two balconies as they fell to ground. This was our 8th visit to this hotel which in itself is very good, but after this experience we will never go back.

Room Tip: Just hold on to your hats if you visit windy Lanzarote.

Just arrived back from a 10 day holiday at this hotel:
THE GOOD: Room was superb, spacious and clean. We were in room 431 overlooking the bottom pool which was the "quiet" pool although to be fair both pools and in fact the whole hotel is very quiet. Our room maid kept our room spotless and left us little towel sculptures etc which is always a nice personal touch. We saw just 2 cockroaches in the whole 10 days, one on our balcony, very small and one in our bathroom, small.
The food is very good with a selection to suit all pallets. Not every dish is to our personal taste but that's not a problem, you can just go and pick something else. The waiters and waitresses are excellent, so polite and friendly, especially Natti who welcomes everyone with a kiss!
We didn't see anyone eating in long shorts and even if we did (take note 46biggy46) is it really a problem? On that note, I would have liked to have seen the same standards applied to both men and women. If men have to wear long trousers in the evening then women should be made to wear a dress or smart skirt. "Goose and gander"
I can't comment on the entertainment as we only stayed in the hotel one night as we preferred to go outside in the evening and sample the local bars and entertainment which I have to say is superb! Try the Cavern across the road, some great live acts "Prestige" "Jager Brothers" "Neil Diamond tribute" You can also find these performing in the town bars if you fancy a stroll. Also you simply must try the Bulldog Inn on Mon, Wed and Fri to see their resident drag act Terri Tour, soo funny but beware you WILL get picked on.
We did have a few drinks in the Monkey Bar and the staff are amazing. very friendly and genuinely happy to serve you.
It was great fun to stand on my balcony every morning at 8AM and watch the hotel employee wander round removing all the towels and bags from the sun beds where people had tried to reserve them even though it is made very clear that you cannot reserve a sun bed before 10AM.
Both pools are very clean and spacious as not many people get in them.

THE BAD: Not the hotels fault but it was so windy that the pool was very cold every day and not a pleasant experience trying to get in. Maybe a slightly heated pool would be a good idea?
Costa Teguise is a lovely island but the wind spoilt our holiday. It was so strong that it was virtually impossible to sit outside a bar and have a drink without everything being blown away and ladies be warned, do something with your hair to secure it or you will end up looking like Edward Scissor Hands! The wind was persistent, strong and cold at night.
On our last day the wind was so strong that it blew a large solar panel completely off the roof of the hotel which came crashing down past the balconies and narrowly missed sunbathers by the bottom pool.
The majority of the residents are older, not a problem but... on our first night we had a few drinks and returned back to our room at around 1.00AM, we went on to our balcony and were chatting to our friends on the next balcony, not loudly just chatting and we were asked by a resident below us to keep the noise down as they were trying to sleep! Not a good start to our holiday and we found ourselves on tippy toes for the rest of the holiday.
One last moan... We returned to the Monkey Bar at 12.32AM for a quick night cap but were refused service as it was after 12.30. A little discretion would have been appreciated, we ended up going next door where they were happy to serve us until gone 2AM.
Overall a great hotel, clean, friendly and great staff but spoilt by the wind and moany holidaymakers.
