“Great For a Family / Couple Holiday”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

Just returned from the Sands Beach Resort and must say it was a very good hotel.
Of course, Its not a 5 star hotel however would say its very good value for money and dont have any issues apart froma few minor niggles.
Some of the funiture in the room was a bit dated/ well worn and the hotel cats were a pain every now & then.

But overall, very happy with our room looking over the 25m Pool and would have no problem in returning again in the future.

We went as a couple but also noted the hotel is very children friendly so a ideal hotel for families

Room Tip: Rooms over the 25m pool seem to be a bit quiter due to less kids (more a pool for serious swimming r...

Excellent Hotel, spotlessly clean. Good and very varied food. Helpful staff. My one bedroomed apartment could have slept 6. It was very large and well kitted out. The rooms were cleaned daily.
My visit was in May and the hotel was only at about a quarter full. This made for a very relaxing and comfortable holiday and I would certainly return at an off peak time. Not much entertainment going on at the time of my stay. Not sure I would be keen on going peak season though. Hotel has it's own enclosed beach and also is facing the public beach which was very clean and quiet during my visit.

Thank you for your review.
We are delighted you had a good holiday. The great feature of the layout of our hotel is that it does not seem overly crowded even when we have 86% occupancy. We have ample facilities to deal with 100% occupancy.
Thank you for your comments about our cleanliness as our cleaning team work extremely hard to maintain our resort to a very high standard.
Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sands Beach Resort again soon.

My friend and I stayed for the first time in Lanzarote at the Sands Beach, for a girls relaxing holiday at the beginning of May and that is exactly what we got. We had a brilliant holiday and can't rate the resort highly enough. On arrival from the airport we checked in quickly with no problems - everything was as we had booked. The superior apartment had good facilities, was spotlessly clean and very roomy. Our apartment was on plaza verde (which is with the 25m pool) and had the sun on the balcony until sunset. All guests can swim in the pool, you just need a swimming hat and a wristband from reception, however we decided not to do this and wondered over to one of the other pools to have a swim and lie on the sun loungers. We were out of season and there were plenty of sun loungers, however in peak season if most of the apartments are occupied I would feel cheeky going round to a pool on a different plaza and using the sun loungers, even though they are for everyone's use. We stayed bed and breakfast which is well worth while as there is vast choice of food and didn't really need much lunch afterwards! The whole resort is extremely clean, all walk ways and pool areas. Our towels were changed and apartment cleaned everyday. Walking up to the main square in Costa Teguise is a pleasant, flat walk, either by the beach or along the road going out the front of reception and takes 10-15 minutes. There are a variety of restaurants and bars but most of them offer the same types of food! Pizza, pasta, steak, fish, I don't think Lanzarote is the best at catering for vegetarians but this wasn't an issue for us. They do know how to make good cocktails! If you haven't been to Costa Teguise before the best advice I can give is to take 15 minutes and chat to Rosemary in the reception area. She will tell you everything you need to know, where everything is and you can book trips too but Rosemary is not pushy in the slightest. After Rosemary's advice we took the bus one evening to Puerto Del Carmen for a change of scene, reliable buses that run all through the night. The resort is right by the beach, a couple of smaller beaches and a lovely stroll along to the main beach. All in all the resort was brilliant and seems to be a favourite with families. Costa Teguise has some nice restaurants and quieter bars for just relaxing outside but if it's party central you want Puerto Del Carmen would be more suited. If I went to Lanzarote again I would stay at Sands Beach.

Room Tip: If staying with children probably request not to be on plaza verde.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of our hotel. We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday with us.
Our 25m X 8 lane swimming pool is proving very popular with our guests.
It is important to note that every single guest facility is open to all guests in Sands Beach Resort. If anyone would rather lie at a different plaza this is perfectly acceptable. If anyone finds there are not enough sun loungers at any plaza – one call to reception will have sun loungers delivered immediately. There is no shortage of sun loungers in the resort.
The unusual layout of our hotel ensures that it never seems crowded even when there is 100% occupancy.
Rosemary works at our Public Relations desk in the reception area. She is there to help all our guests and enhance their holiday experience.. She is there every day from 09.00-15.00. Rosemary can give you information on the hotel and its activities, the resort of Costa Teguise and local restaurants, bars and shops. She has compiled a comprehensive and exciting range of excursions of the island. We have everything from the usual Fire Mountain excursions to Go Karting to Bird Watching or Bodega Hops. It is a great range to suit every one of every age and interest. She can organise great birthday surprises and more recently a marriage proposal on the submarine which can be seen on our Facebook page. So do come down to say “Hello”.
We thank you again for taking the time to write the review and we look forward to seeing you again soon at Sands Beach Resort.

Back in the late 90's/early 00's I enjoyed several enjoyable breaks in the resort's previous incarnation as a timeshare. So I was happy to have the opportunity to see how things had changed.
There is much to be said for the comfort of familiarity but it was a surprise that the decor and furniture of the apartment was totally unchanged from at least a decade earlier. An armchair you would normally only see in a skip and a collection of kitchen crockery and utensils so limited and of such poor quality they would look out of place in even a moderate caravan park were the poor points but other than the age everything was in good nick. The cleaning and maintenance teams were exemplary and a credit to the resort. Sadly the same can not be said for some of the reception and Mai Tai staff who, while not rude, were supremely indifferent and seemingly just going through the motions.
We stayed 11-18 May and the resort, like much of Costa Teguise, was very quiet, feeling as though it would be a struggle to get to 25% occupancy. As a result, it was possible to walk straight from the apartment to the pool area in the knowledge that there would always be loungers available. Three families arrived on the last day and the whole game changed, so whether a stay in peak periods would be quite such a joy is debatable.
Three of the plazas have green matting surrounding the pool area which is a great boon as the tiling on the walkways and around the pools on the other plazas can become extremely hot. Unfortunately, the matting has become threadbare and is in real need of replacement. It also absorbs a lot of the fine sand that is always in the air with the result that wet feet can easily trail a dirty path back to the apartment.
We stayed on Amarilla but the best pool was on Sol, the children friendly plaza. Very new, with a slight salty tang it was a joy to swim in. One of the highlights of the stay was the 25m pool (sorry, not Olympic) on Verde. As a typical lane swimmer it was a joy to be swimming outside in the sun in a lane of my own. An experience not to be missed. Lots of training aids are available.
Another highlight was the Wellness Center which is hidden in the depths of the clubhouse next to the gym that is nicely housed but scrappily populated with old and possibly dangerous equipment. Do not pass up the chance to enjoy the wide range of treatments (not just for the ladies). Jurena really knows her stuff and I wish we had discovered her earlier in our stay.
Location-wise, it feels that Sands is at the wrong end of the street in Costa Teguise with Playa Bastian looking much smarter. Certainly the coast path just outside the resort looks in desperate need of some care.
The concept of single storey apartments around small plazas will probably never be built again. That the newer plazas; Canarias, Verde and the Beachfront extension are all two storeys confirm that. For that alone Sands should be cherished and experienced while it remains.

Room Tip: Sol and Beachfront for families with small children.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of our hotel.
We are sorry you did not find the resort up to your expectations.
Our hotel is designed, staffed and stocked to cater for full occupancy and so there is no need for worry for our future guests.
We are pleased that you enjoyed our new 25m x 8 lane swimming pool in Plaza Verde. This has proven to be very popular with our guests. Our gym has been extended and we are awaiting the delivery of all our new gym equipment.
We are sorry you did not know about our wellness centre in our reception area until the end of your holiday. There is a large banner in reception advertising it and it is in our information book that is given to all guests at check in. We have a very knowledgeable staff there and a Physiotherapist on site for treatment and advice.
As you speak of the Sands Beach of the 90´s, sadly it was a business that failed to reinvest in the hotel. The Sands Beach Resort of today is a new company that started four years ago with the aim of restoring the resort to its original position in the luxury hotel market. In the last three years we have invested €2.5million in plumbing and rewiring. We installed a new water treatment system and a water heating system. We have reformed two of our six plazas. The other four are pending and are expected to be started in 2013 and 2014. Some of the apartments that have not had the furnishings changed have had major electrical and plumbing work done, things that are very important but not visible to the naked eye. The work that has been completed gives us much more energy efficiency and better customer facilities. We have put in place rigorous cleaning quality control and we are pleased that you were aware of this.
We regret not meeting your expectations. However at least 85% of the guests at Sands Beach Resort have indicated satisfaction with their stay and many have been repeat guests. Occupancy for the month of May reached a high of 85% with an average of 76% occupancy for the month. So we would be interested in where your 25% occupancy data came from. It has to be said that the nature of our resort and the layout gives the impression of not being crowded like other hotels and this is one of the attractions of the hotel - that it never seems crowded. The hotel has an annual average of 89% occupancy and never seems crowded.
We know that there is a lot more to do and we appreciate clients such as yourself reminding us how far we have come and how much more we have to do. Be assured we have a clear development plan over the coming years as mentioned above. Our goal is to reposition Sands Beach Resort as a luxury beach side resort something very far from what you have written.
We hope you will come back to Sands Beach Resort again and see our major improvements.

Hi there,
Just thought I would come over to write a review on 'Sands Beach'
We have stayed here at least 6 times now, we went twice last year.
We absolutely love the place.
We are generally very fussy when booking anywhere and have decided this is a great place so why change.
We have visited many places due the fact having worked on cruise ships and travelled all over.
Sands beach is clean, tidy, the bungalows are spacious and homely.
I am going to get the... 'could do with improving' out of the way first...
in an honest review I agree with another comment/review by John M regards to the utensils being somewhat sparse, no soap to wash up and it's costly to buy these kind of items in.
We tended to eat out most of the time so this didn't really affect our holiday but can imagine it would if your preparing your own food. Air conditioning would be a plus if it could be an upgrade at some point and I agree again with John M's review the food in the evening can be hit and miss, we go bed and breakfast now, we prefer to eat out in the evening and we make a sandwich etc or salad at lunch, we have gone all inclusive and 1/2 board but we find the food hit and miss too...that would be something that the hotel could work on...again doesn't really spoil our holiday as we eat out and make our own :)
the pools are great, the play area just upgraded is brilliant, the beach is fantastic, warm and without waves, fantastic for little ones, the kids club is good and my son enjoys joining in.
the staff are polite and friendly, the small supermarket on site has everything you need.
The entertainment is good for the children and my son loves to join in.
it's not set too far away to walk down the front and you have lots of choice of restaurants and shops we went down every other night and had some lovely meals out, we visited most of the hotels in the area to have a look around to maybe book for future but after looking at most of them and their accommodation we would have to say 'sands beach' every time!
we will be booking to go back in July... so although there are a few improvements to be made your safe that these are not major problems that would have any impact on your holiday I could safely say you'll have a great time..sunshine, calm sea, relaxed atmosphere, good entertainment, lovely accommodation, friendly staff and fantastic pools...go on book eenjoy yourselves x

Thank you for your review.
We are delighted that you enjoyed another holiday with us. We have taken note of your comments and the items you mentioned are currently being discussed and a programme of upgrading is being put in place as part of our ongoing programme of development. The new children´s playground is one of the many parts of our development programme that we have completed and we are delighted that your son enjoyed the playground.
Thank you again for taking the time to review our hotel and we look forward to seeing you and your family soon again at Sands Beach Resort

We've just got back after having a week at sands beach.
We had such a lovely holiday there, we can't say one bad word about the staff, we made friends with a lot of them they are so friendly, always smiling and having a laugh with you! Although we did find the manager ( I think that's what he was, wears a black waist jacket) abit rude, not smiling or talking to guest ect.
It's by far the cleanest resort we've stayed on.. Even the beach gets raked every night so it's neat when you wake up.
Loved the jacuzzi and mai tai pool, and bar area it's where we spent most our time, however there is a little bit of maintance that needs doing to that area, like theglaress island in the middle of the pool needs re-gluing down, and why isn't the fountain on?

We will be booking again for next year!!

Room Tip: I reccomend upgrading to beach front

We've just returned from a week at this quality resort. It is well laid out with roomy, clean bungalows. The whole place is looked after very well - there are plenty of friendly staff and everything is spotless. It's at a nice location on the beach with plenty of shops and good restaurants within easy walking distance. It's great value for money and definitely 4 star. Two criticisms however. The bungalow kitchens are very poorly equipped - there is not even washing up utensils or soap provided - we didn't even have a spatula to get a fried egg out of our pan! Secondly, the restaurant there, which is buffet style, is very hit-and-miss. We had one fantastic meal and one disgusting meal. Nearby are some fantastic inexpensive restaurants - try Porto Bello. Another tip - the Caesar Manique house (ten minutes drive away) and museum is well worth a trip but don't go on the excursion coach. Get a taxi and take your time looking around.

Room Tip: If you are a couple, pay a little bit more and get a superior 1 bed-room.
