“tops for location, and sea views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

stayed half board, 15- 22 april, 2013, were given room 329, we had emailed asking for sea view/pool view, and a high floor, and that's what we got, so off to a good start, booking in was fast and easy, in our room in no time.
entering the room we found it spotlessly clean, and more than acceptable,we opened the curtains, and what a view, pool below and sea on our doorstep, you could hear the splash of the waves when sitting on the balcony,ABSOLUTLY FABULOUS, the hotel was worth it for this view alone.
lot's of people harped on about the carpets in the hallways, and yes they have seen better days, but did this effect our stay? NO. i say please keep the carpets, no noisy clonking of high heels,2-3 am in the mornings, just a good night's sleep, and the sound of the sea.
pool area very good, no prob's with sunbeds at any time, but you might need an early start if you want an umbrella, pools were lovely, but HEATED, THEY WERE NOT, but we swam almost evey day.and we are in our 70, so get in and enjoy.
we were half board, so how did the food go, BREAKFAST, no problems all you could ask for, from hot meals,to the usual cerials etc,my wife even found the coffee acceptable, which is rare for hotels.
EVENING MEAL, this was for us the only let down for this hotel,we found the meat selection most nights a hotch potch of bits in stews, meat balls, so called kebab chicken, which bore no resemblance to chicken in tast or looks, the one saving grace was the CANARION NIGHT when they put on a roast pork carvery, this was excellent, and Mr MANAGER,is the standard you should put on every night, if you strive to make this hotel the perfect place to stay.
as stated earlier, hotel location is PERFECT, for walks, shops, bars etc, all on your doorstep, and nice and flat, ideal for any infirm.
so to sum up, brill hotel in all aspect's, but needs to improve on quality of evening meal,
WOULD WE GO BACK--- YES----- but B&B only, unless the evening meals improve.

dave&joan LLANELLI, SOUTH WALES

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

Just returned from 7 wonderful days at the Playa and cannot wait to book up again. This is the first time we have returned since it was taken over from the Occidental Group and a few improvements have been made. You can read on other reports about the tired carpets etc, but they are hoovered and cleaned and trolly cases moving over tired worn carpets are much quiter than moving them over tiles!!!,( the case in most hotels in this area).

We e mailed and asked for a certain room and was allocated the one next door. A bottle of Cava as also in the room to celebrate my wifes birthday. A great start to the holiday.
This was the first time we had gone all inclusive here as opposed to half board and we were not disapointed.

Whilst I think the amount of hot carved meats has decreased, the variety and volume of the fresh salads was very impressive. We certainly did not go hungry, in fact we were strict on ourselves with the amount we actually ate as the choice was extensive at every meal. Being there in a heatwave, salads were the base of most of our dishes. It was also nice to have dry cutlery and glasses, not left wet straight out of the dishwasher as has been the case in other hotels we have stayed in. The variety of food and quality of the house wine is very good for the price you pay, do not expect fillet steak and "laithwaites quality" for the vino and you will not be disappointed.

The layout of the hotel is fantastic with nearly all rooms facing the sea and you are really close to it. Our patio door was open every night and dozing of to the sound of the waves was very relaxing. Swimming in the small bay is also very safe and lots of fish to feed (they will eat out of your hand). The beach slopes gently into the sea and is safe for everyone.

The room and beds were adequately furnished, again not to the highest standard with flat screen TV's etc but I do not go on holiday to watch TV, so a comfy bed, a balcony with a stunning view and powerful shower with hot water were all the ticks I needed. It was cleaned each day by one of the army of staff who swarmed all over the hotel each day. Again, for the price paid, we were very happy.

The two salt water pools are clean some considered cold, but were cooling and refreshing once in, I prefer the sea though which was even cooler. The sunbeds could be better, some being a little saggy and tired and nice thick cushions would be a relative cheap improvement. More umbrellas would also be another plus point. However, we never struggled to get a bed even though the hotel did not enforce it's rule of not reserving beds before 09:00 hours.

The pool bar was good, sometimes a little busy, but a good variety of drinks were available throughout, there are still may options for me to try next year. Hot chocolate and Baileys made a nice start to a hard days sunworshipping for my better half.

As stated, many people concentrate on the negatives of this hotel. All we can say is, it was very clean, the staff very friendly, lots of variety in both food and drink, all of which was fresh and healthy, the locaation and views are stunning and being fortunate with the weather we had a fantastic time. This is a 3-4 star hotel. If it was a five star, and had all the improvments some people moan about, it would be far more expensive.

You get what you pay for and this overall is value for money. We will be returning, sooner rather than later!!

I think some of the other reviews must have been in a different Hotel to us. Our room 305 was absolutely acceptable. Cleaned every day and lovely big bathroom with bath and shower and bidet. Both my husband and myself thought the food was great and we never had to wait for a table in the dining room and as soon as we sat down a waiter came to take our drinks order.
The entertainment was good, some nights better than others but it all depends on what you like.
All in all we enjoyed the all inclusive and would definitely go back to this Hotel again. We found all the staff to be very helpful and also could always find sun beds whatever time of day we wanted.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view but 3rd floor upwards are quieter

Having just returned from 7 nights at this hotel, I feel relaxed and de-stressed.
Starting with the practicalities: excellent location with direct access to a small, enclosed beach;Shops and bars directly opposite as is a sight-seeing tour operator; prommanade from beach along coast; two pools, one salt water;beautiful main public area with bar, plenty of seating; all rooms have sea view.
We had a room on the first floor overlooking the tennis courts. The room was pleasant and clean .The bed consisted of two large singles , made up separately and pushed together. The bathroom was smallish , but adequate. The balcony felt very private, you could not see into, nor be seen into from, other balconies. It is true to say that there were a few flaws in the tiling, but not enough to get upset about. All in all, as a base, a lovely room.
The bar staff at both the pool bar and the main bar were helpful, efficient and very pleasant, as were the staff in the restaurant and most of the reception staff.
The drinks were fine and I thought it a nice touch that you could ask for water to take to your room.
Meal times were self-service apart from drinks which waiting staff brought to you .The food was of a reasonable quality and there was plenty of it .If a tray was nearly empty it was replaced with fresh. I think the food was very acceptable , o.k. not five star....but then, you are not paying five star prices!
The usual problem of selfish people "bagging" sun beds with their towels, but the hotel does have notices up telling people not to.In fairness , your'e never going to stop selfish people
..Best beach holiday I can remember, good hotel which I believe is undergoing a programme of refurbishment to upgrade the rooms and public areas.I will certainly be going back as soon as I can.

Room Tip: Ask which rooms have been refurbished. If you have mobility problems, request one near to lifts or s...

Just returned from a week's stay at this hotel. We have never done the "hotel-half board" thing before and were more than a bit apprehensive. We asked for a high floor away from the entertainment area and they did absolutely that. Lovely room - could have done with a lick of paint, but then it was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The food was fantastic and if you took your time to see what was on offer before you piled up you plate, there was some very good cuisine on offer. We charged our drinks to the room and were very pleasantly surprised at the low cost at the end of the week. The reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly and eager to help - guest satisfaction appeared to be paramount. Returned yesterday and have been looking at booking again in October.

Room Tip: We asked a high floor away from the entertainment area - and got 537 on the fifth floor - lovely! G...

We have just returned forma 1 week stay at the resort.
We have been to Costa Teguise 5 times previously and stayed at 3 different hotels, sadly, this was our worst experience and we definitely wouldn’t return.
The good points:
On arrival we were upgraded to a suite, we’d booked a deluxe room category, and the hotel was full, so were very happy to get this.
The room was very spacious, lovely balconies on upper floor. But I think only a handful of rooms are this category and most people don’t even go deluxe, so this is not an accurate description of other basic rooms. Our friend who also stayed with us, had booked the cheapest/most basic room category and said it felt like the lowest of staff quarters, uncomfortable bed, shabby furniture, balcony with no sun and a broken shower.
The bar area is brilliant. The famous rotating sofa circle around the bar is for much amusement,. Thought eh speed it goes round varies form night to night so you can go so slowly, you end up stuck the bar for the entire entertainment and and can’t see a thing!
The location by the beach is great and sea views lovely. Please people: don’t just stay at the tiny, not overly attractive beach right by the hotel. Walk along through the beach, up and along the promenade winding round to much nicer beaches, especially one- about a 15 min walk along right at the end of the premade by the beautiful (and the hotel we now Wished we’d stayed in, Melia Sands hotel). The beach, loungers and views here are so much nicer.
So you may wonder why I started by saying I wouldn’t return?
THE FOOD!!! I am vegetarian. I emailed the hotel in advance to say I am veggie and pregnant- and would all-inclusive be wise considering both these things and me having enough choice of food, They assured me: I would.
Such a let down to then to discover the buffet here. Every hotel we’ve stayed at in lanzo has had buffets so I know tis not exactly a la carte beleive me, and even as a veggie aside- I’m not a fussy eater, as long as its no meat or fish, I’ll eat it! Not here…. 1st night the 1 veggie dish out of about say 15/20- was pasta with tomato sauce. No cheese anywhere in the entire buffet and certainly not grated parmesan, as you may expect to be served with it. The pasta was so soft and overcooked it was almost runny, and the sauce may have just been ketchup- it has zero flavour to it at all. Just inedible.
So I had a plate of chips- lovely.

I emailed the manager from the room making some suggestions ie. Why not have more types of (better cooked) pasta on over, and the chef to have a little pan and some ingredients for guests to choose from i.e. Onions, garlic, ham, olives, cream etc etc and in a few minutes make up pasta sauces to individual requirements. I’ve seen this at so many buffets and its very popular. The manager didn’t take a thing I said on board, in, fact dinner the next night was WORSE!! Every salad you might expect to be veggie had meat or fish bits in it- and the pasta was also a soggy mess with meat in it.

The manager had responded and said come down to see her and discuss it- We turned up the night after at the time- but what a surprise she wasn’t working then.
In 7 nights- we ate out 5 TIMES!!! We paid several £100 extra for all inclusive- and me being pregnant I didn’t drink any alcohol and couldn’t eat dinner there. It wasn’t just the quantity of suitable dishes for me- both my husband and his friend- meat and fish eaters- said the quality was disgusting. Some egs… my husbands who’ll pretty much eat anything - had some fish there. He tried a bite and actually went pale, commenting “ this fish…tastes like its been lying dead on the bottom of the sea for months in a muddy dirty puddle”. EUUUGGGH! He couldn’t eat it. Our friend tried a stew (looks disgusting) and after chewing a bit of beef/pork (?) for about 5 minutes said “ my old trainers would be less tough than this ‘meat’”. We dreaded the thought of going there and so had to spend a lot extra, on eating out almost every evening. Breakie a bit better and desserts were ok- but seriously the dinner main selections are appalling, quality of food – and cooking- shocking and the dishes just bizarre. No mojo sauce as we love getting in other hotels in Lanzarote! No cheese for the pasta. No cheese- anywhere in the buffet?! 1 standard, soggy pasta mess every evening. Near zero for veggies. The meat & fish they do have- pretty disgusting. Most people eating there look realty glum at dinner- no wonder…
If you do decide to go please: save your money and DO NOT GO FULL BOARD!!! There are so many restaurants nearby- right opposite the hotel that offer food for the same price ie. Buffets/Chinese restaurants (for £5 buffets)/ nice great Italians. And dining out is so much more fun than sitting I the same boring canteen forced to eat this manky selection of food.
We asked at check out for a refund on my full board saying Id clearly emailed before out stay- was advised there were plenty of options (they were NOT!) and despite me emailing- nothing at the buffet ever changed. We showed our receipts from being forced to eat out and the manger was rude and a joke in her attitude- she couldn’t have cared less and no, we didn’t get a penny back. Be warned.
