We were staying in a nearby hotel on a self-catering basis, not intending to eat out much as this was an 'extra' holiday, but went out one evening looking for a nice, reasonably-priced restaurant. We happened to pass Portobello, went back for a look at the menu, and decided to go in.
What can we say: the staff were lovely and welcoming without being 'over the top' and the restaurant looked clean and friendly; and we liked the look of the menu - so we stayed and ordered. One of us wanted one type of pasta with a sauce on the menu for a different type of pasta, but this was no problem; and the other order was for a pizza. Both came promptly (preceded by breadsticks which genuinely were 'on the house', not added to your bill before you know it!!) and were totally delicious. House wine was great too. No desert ordered - too full! - so asked for the bill which came with complimentary liquers (again, not sneakily added to the bill).
We went back a couple of evenings later, on the last evening of our holiday, and again had a great meal served in a nice atmosphere by genuinely friendly staff.
You really should have a meal here, we would be stunned if you weren't delighted.
We had tried another, nearby, Italian restaurant earlier in our holiday, and it was in our opinion OK, but didn't match-up to Portobello.
