We stayed just across the road from El Mastil and noticed that night after night the restaurant was empty, whilst most of the other places in the area were buzzing with people. The front of house was doing anything to get people in, but to no avail. We felt quite sorry for the guy. Then, one night when we were looking for somewhere to eat, we noticed that El Mastil was full. We thought, OK, lets give it a try.
To say what came next was a disaster would be an understatement.
After waiting for around 20 mins, we ordered our meals and drinks. The drinks came quite quickly and then the wait began! We waited, and waited and waited. An hour passed and nothing came. The tables all around us were experiencing the same trouble. Complaints were made by nearly all. One couple upped and left only to be chased by a member of staff demanding that their drinks were paid for.
All the while that this was going on another staff member was going into the Spar shop next door and bringing back bags of food. It was becoming clear that things were turning chaotic. The front of house was arguing with the waiting staff and his argument seemed fair enough. He'd filled the restaurant with customers, but the rest of the staff could not cope.
We had been polite enough to wait for over an hour until our food came. However, it turned into farce when it did arrive as the chicken that had been ordered was stone cold. The Paella was burnt and the rice rock hard and to add insult to injury, we were told that the pizza was not going to be ready for another 10 minutes! The waiter offered no apology and stormed off. At this point we had had enough. We paid for our drinks and left. No one made any attempt to placate us and as we left other people began to argue with staff and begin to leave. We now realised why the restaurant was continually empty and this remained the case for the remainder of our holiday. We also noted that the front of house was not seen again after such a debacle.
