“We had a wonderful time at the Luabay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2011

Well, of course we read the mixed reviews here and were a bit worried about actually staying at the Luabay and even considered rebooking, however having just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Luabay we were glad that we didn't change our hotel after all.

First of all, we have stayed in lots of 4* hotels in Spain and yes, this is a proper 4* hotel !!! When we arrived, reception staff was super friendly and we were checked in within a couple of minutes and ready to go to our room. Well yes, when you have your room on the 2nd floor you have to carry your luggage upstairs as there are no lifts, but you only do it twice anyway and from what I've seen staff was eager to help senior citizens with their luggage.

Our seaview room was spacious, furniture still looked brand new and room was 100% clean. Next time I would opt for a poolview room as it gets quite windy in the evenings, so we didn't use the balcony that much. Oh, and the rooms are very well isolated, so you won't hear anything from the corridor or your neighbours. A minor negative point is that there is nowhere to hang your towels or wet beachwear. As for the so often criticised bathroom window - well yes, if the light is on other people passing by your room can see that somebody is having a shower or doing whatever - BUT that's about it, you can't actually see the person itself or whether it's a male or female.... so no need to put towels, pillows or whatever in your bathroom window.

In general the hotel was very well staffed, everybody has been really friendly and welcoming be it bar staff, maid or waiters in the restaurant. Although fully booked we never had to wait for a drink and tables were cleared immediately.

The food was really excellent - and we are picky eaters- and definately worth 4*. Yes, often it wasn't labelled or when they labelled food it was often wrong, BUT all staff were able to speak english, german and of course spanish and always happy to point out the different ingredients. Come on, it's holidays, don't we all have time for a little chat at the buffet???
The only drawback is, that the dining room does actually resemble of a canteen and yes, the sewage smell is still there. One day more than the other and it also depends where you are sitting. We had dinner in the a la carte restaurant twice (mexican & spanish nights) and it's not really a la carte but you will get a set menu. If you don't really like fish as we do you better skip the spanish nights, otherwise food here was excellent as well.

Moving on to the nightly entertainment - which was quite good actually - I have to admit that most reviewers here are right as it was very difficult to find a free table if you arrived after 9:30pm (entertainment also starts at that time). When the hotel is fully booked there are just not enough seats, which is unfortunately also true for the amount of sunbeds. we really hate reserving sunbeds, but here you had no other choice as you wouldn't find an empty sunbed after 9:30am.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay and when reading the minor complaints one should always bear in mind that the Luabay is very reasonably priced for a 4* hotel. We would definately go there again !

Just spent a week in Luabay and cant praise it enough we had a fantasic time, room was lovely with sea view yes its windy on the balcony but you really need it to cool down its so hot by the pool, yes you put the towels out in the morning but there are spare beds dotted around but we we Brits like to stay in the same place ! The staff are so friendly and helpful and very hard working the room was always spotless with a free bottle of water and clean towels and bedding through out the week.
Plenty of fresh food and choice and honestly you cant really label it all there is so much and you can usually tell what it is, but you may have to check with the staff if you do have allergies - try the mexican theme night it was fantastic.
The Hotel is in a busy area with shops & bars but its not noisy at night, the beaches near by have sunbeads to hire and are very clean infact we watched the sea weed being racked up each morning when the tide went out. I would book this Hotel again and recommend it highly.

We chose this as our daughter's first holiday (11 months old).

We had read a few of the reviews and to be honest some are agreeable but others I believe just expected too much.

ROOM

Our room was cleaned daily to a good standard. We had a sea view ground floor room (perfect since we had a pushchair and there was only one lift which did not go to all blocks or level 2).The bathroom was lovely and tidy and they supply you with shower gel, soap, a comb and showercap. The rest of the rooms are nice and they supply plenty of hangers and a safe which costs 2e per day.

HOTEL

The hotel was cleaned often and was immaculate. All staff lovely and helpful. Entertainment is varied - drag show is HILARIOUS! The pool was too cold for us to go in - our little girl was too cold but others braved it!

FOOD

The food was what we expected for all inc. Buffet and many simular repeated foods each day which does get boring. Food was not labelled. They do 2 theme nights per week, Mexican and Spanish which you have to book in for (this is in the pool bar). The Spanish is mainly fish and bread (typical traditional spanish). The room to eat whilst clean is like a canteen! Its in the basement and not very pretty or no atmosphere.

AREA

Nice area and close to beach, parks and other restaurants and bars! Lighthouse is great for English TV and football matches.

Room Tip: Get sea view on the higher floors as once seated you can see over the wall unlike the ground floor.

My wife and I stayed here from september 18 to 25.Weather was great. When we arrived we couldnt have a room until 2pm.The receptionist told us to have some lunch and come back later. Arrived in room very pleasantly suprised. It was well decorated clean tidy and suited our needs.Every thing around from the rooms to the pool area, reception, restaruant, pool bar was spotless. The staff were very polite and helpful. The area around the hotel had plenty of bars and restaraunts. The Taj Mahal does a very nice curry. But this is where the downfall of the hotel comes in. The FOOD. The food is often cold,by the time you have got your food ,found a table got you drinks, bread etc and sat down to eat.The staff quickly take your dishes away. There was a slight smell when we were there but its noyhing serious. Also the food is not labelled but I did see one guy ask the head waiter to take him around and describe what was what. All in all if this hotel could improve on there catering side then this hotel would be a fantastic place to holiday.

Room Tip: Take some euros with you for meals out..Breakfasts are much nicer looking at a sea view.especially a...

Stayed September 15th - 22nd (Room 5106 above the pool bar).

I was a little concerned after reading a lot of the reviews, but after staying at the LuaBay I think there is no pleasing some people. Obviously most of the bad reviews are earlier in the year so a lot has been rectified.

Good Points:

Excellent Location.
Lovely Views.
Great Resort.
Staff Friendly & Helpful.
Spotlessly Clean.
Fantastic Weather (+8 to 10ºC more than what BBC weather was stating).
Pool.
Pastries & Ice cream.
Cold Beer.
Short Transfer (20mins).

Bad Points:

Food : Too much salt, Unlabelled & Bland.
Evening Entertainment was hit & miss.
More umbrella's for the sunbeds around the pool (If your lucky to get one, make sure you do tie something to it (T-shirt & Hair band) too claim it's yours, otherwise it will get pinched!!).
Holiday Rep was in the Hotel Barcelo next door.

I do recommend the Catamaran Trip & to eat at Texas House (2min walk) for the best steak in Costa Teguise.

Room Tip: Rooms (Block5) above the Pool bar are awesome!

Every september we spend a week with friends, somewhere short haul, all inclusive from our regional airport, preferably 4 star and under £500 per person. This lovely hotel fit the bill perfectly! To all you wingers, get over yourselves. We too, go to far away luxuary boutiqe resorts. but your not going to get that for £500. We all had a great week with fab staff and good food in a friendly hotel in a great spot. Thankyou ''Luabay''.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks from 1-15 September. Dont believe any of the bad reviews. Smell - slight smell now and again but nothing to worry about. Food - very good choice of food which is cooked fresh. Staff - wonderful friendly staff who are extremely helpful. Location - excellent with access to seafront and beach. We booked this hotel and got a good deal through Thomas Cook just before it re-opened in April. Some of the early reviews had us worried but we worried needlessly. No need to bring beach towels. They are provided with a 15 Euro deposit which is refundable at the end of holiday. Would defintely recommend this hotel
